In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is a gateway album of the worst kind. It's a bad LP, a clusterfuck of song and narrative that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive saw faggotry and ANNE FRANK. The normal user can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the album itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.
However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The scuffed vocals all trying their hardest to sound emotive, the guitar, peculiar, colorful tones, the whole time travel faggotry and everything about the ITAOTS world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on rescue, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is basically THE LP to attract the most hated band fanbase known to Sup Forums, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every user to troll the fuck out of this album and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Neutral Milk Hotel threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

I finally caved the other week and I listened to the whole thing after seeing everyone meme it to hell and back on here. I didn't enjoy it. I listened to the whole thing expecting it to get better and it never did. I don't know if people actually enjoy it but I kinda wish it would die out.

You're probably trollin. But honestly that album is so good. I know that there is a ton of hype around it (which it probably doesnt deserve). But it has a really personal effect on the listener. That paired with the images that Jeff uses makes it a really unique album.
Having said that i wish people would just chill with this album. Let it go. It was great. Stop reading so much into it.

Give it another listen and see if your opinion changes. That album has a way of worming itself into your head after a little. The songwriting might not be as flawless as its reputation suggests, but it's still a very good album and it creates a unique sonic landscape that you kind of want to dive into. The odd vibe becomes somewhat comforting for me at least
