map not related, couldnt find a map for Defence/defense in european langauges

With a c of course. I'm not a yank

Müdafa

in spain its Defensa so im naturally steered towards Defense
defence sounds like The Fence

I like how on those maps you quite often can see PLC borders.

I mean it's been 222 years since PLC fell and you can still see it's influence.

With an S, Försvar

i usually write defence because fence is a word while fense isnt.

that map is retarded, it's oră not oară

>Your country
Croatia
>Defence or Defense?
obrana

Damn, Lithuanian and Latvian are old.

Slavic is my mother tongue and I think romanian word (razbiti) sounds better than voina

whats PLC, i have never seen that acronym
does defense come from the same root that fence

Puolustus

Fronce
Défense

holy shit
i just realized "fence" in Galician (probably portuguese too) is "Fender" wich means "to hit"
>the verb for "Defend" in spanish and galician is Defender (de-fender)

big polish blob in east europe

PLC stands for Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Good cuntree 2bh, too bad Ukrops, Swedes and Russians had to kill it in the most pathetic way possible all at once. I liked their hussars

I think "fence" comes from "defence" so yeah they do.

So I guess a fence is just a defence against outsiders without the de bit. Maybe back in the day word fence was used for proper defensive barriers instead of the wimpy little things we have these days.

absolutely
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/defendo#Latin
its amazing how close we are to latin sometimes, some words could be understood almost perfectly 1800 years back in time

fendre here means to split wood with an axe

...

vojna does sound strange to me too

Deutschland
Verteidigung

this resolution is awful, i cant read the small text in the legend. please use the "Big image resolution" search tool in google next time

Hey Anonymous,

I would ordinary spell it 'Defence' but I must admit the spelling 'Defense' is a lot more sensible. In future correspondence I will be happy to accept either spelling!

Regards,
Anonymous

found the bigger one

>PLC
?

...

>polish people call the 'hour' a 'year'

see I swear you South "Slavs" are even more retarded than East Slavshits.

Year - Rok
Hour - Godzina
Time - Czas

Year - godina
Hour - chas
Time - vreme

Like I said, autism.

But that's what you get when you let orthodox idiots write you alphabet.

Vreme is weather here.

čas can mean "moment" as well
e.g
>sad je pravi čas
"now is the right moment"

>anya
>not related with anne(originally ana)
Just come out of your closet already, Macar-chan

We use it for both time and weather.
Don't get the alphabets involved, it's objectively true that your language looks like shit because of the zhwhzavz crap.

you can't spell defence without fence so defence it is

>>Defence or Defense?
Defense as in defensywa.

but you can
>defense

and in english to fend off means keeping something away.
i think fence was just a noun for something that fends ie wards off things

defensivă or apărare

you're not wrong
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/defendo#Latin

Map is wrong.
We don't use čas isn't used. It's either sat or ura.

there are some words in english and spanish that made me think

window (wind)
ventana (viento)

breakfast (break the fast)
desayunar (romper el ayuno)

How do you say strawberries?

We say Luleshtrydhe(Crushed flowers)

Truskawki

I think "guda" is more common in basque for war.

Jordbær (earth berries)

jagode
gode means feels good
and the turks came and ate them and said YALLAH (exclemation) and the serbs said YA! gode (wow! they taste good!)
so jagode (or jagohde)

Defiance.

Pretty sure you had a word for them before turks came

Defense

Norway
>Defence or Defense?
Forsvar

south slavs are the first slavs, they are the one that gave you language and your moonrunes.

why are basques such special snowflakes?

>Defence or Defense?
OooOO Moya oborona

really gets the nogging yogging
wait, let me get the etimologic dictionary
>ayuno: from latin "ieiunum" (empty)
>desayunar = stopping the emptiness in your belly
>fast: from germanic "Fast" (firmly fixed, secured) wich comes from PIE "past" (firm, solid)

lel, jagoda is pic rel here

Benim zencim

mansikka, etymology is supppsedly related to manner (continent) + -kka diminutive

fraise

>viento
>latin ventus, from proto-italic wentos, from PIE "wents"
>window
>middle english windowe, from old norse vindauga (vindr + auga: wind-eye, wind-hole)

Fresas, comes from french
big ones are Fresones

>polish
>lithuanian
>commonwealth

that's borovnica in south slavic

>Slovenia
>obramba

>oară
It's oră

Căpșuni

ITT:
retards realise languages from the same family have similarities to them

We say «strid» too

ITT: autist gets triggered that normal people are looking up cool language trivia and discussing it online

eper

Tahan, with capital T fool

In Bulgarian there is the expression "нa клaдa" [na klada] when you refer to sb beign burnt to the stake

Butthurt that your only relation is fucking arabic???

>We use it for both time and weather.
вpeмe vreme is also used in Bulg for grammatical tenses

Butthurt that your only neighbours are fucking arabs???

israelis are so salty even when unprovoked
its like a eastern version of our spaniard scum

hmmm israel are you drunk?

neighbour has more than one definition.

>äiti
>from an ancient Germanic language. Related to the Gothic 𐌰𐌹𐌸𐌴𐌹 (aiþei).
WE

go provoke your boyfriend's anus, you fucking Spaniard homo

My bad, I thought we were in roleplaying mode

>Yuogoshits use the Turk/Arab word for time

Lmao. Talk about being cucked. Remove kebab my ass.

It's ok

do you want to be my boyfriend

>muslim balkans are the only who use european word for hour
makes you think...

Flag
Tavdatsva

...

What's retarded with us, is that we use "bakar" for "copper", but when we say it adjectivally, we use "mjeden", the Slavic word

We never use meden, but that is a surname, so we obviously did before we borrowed baker from you.

yeah such strange things exist in a lot of languages. like in finnish the uralic word vaski is still used but only for the word "brass Instruments" like trumpets etc

I think πόλεμος is Indo-European, not pre-Greek. I'll check it later.

>>Defence or Defense?
amyna

fraula
older pronounciation was fragula
from Latin fragula
diminutive of fragum (strawberry)
From Proto-Indo-European *dʰrHǵ-o- (compare Albanian dredhëz and Sanskrit द्राक्षा (drākṣā)) or *sróh2gs ‘grape’ (compare Greek ρώγα (róga), Albanian rrush).

>>Defence or Defense?

Obrona

>your moonrunes

???

Defence of course, Canadians can actually spell
