Does Sup Forums still think Kanye is good at rapping?
Does Sup Forums still think Kanye is good at rapping?
I don't think anybody really thinks he's the best rapper, but his production can be pretty incredible
I think he's better than those garish motherfuckers who have to choke every line with internal rhyming
hes always been above average with his style and personal subject matter but on his last two solo albums he seems to be less good than on the albums before those
I like his plain-spoken, non try-hard style. I respect him for doing more with less. There's a reason so many of his lines stick and stay with people, he makes his words count.
He's the best at rapping
yeah i hate it when people are good lyricists
t. doesn't read
Internal rhyming works sometimes, but rappers cripple their own songs by trying to make everything sound like a waterfall. Eminem is the perfect example of that bullshit.
>t. doesn't read
how did you draw this conclusion?
>Eminem is the perfect example of that bullshit.
but surely literally everyone can agree that em is a better lyricist than kanye?
>still
>implying he was ever good in the first place
>how did you draw this conclusion?
because you prefer gimmicky execution to straightforward writing, and Em is a horrible lyricist.
he's producer.
Does he even rap?
>but surely literally everyone can agree that em is a better lyricist than kanye?
Not even close. Eminem is only noteworthy because of his manic, pcp-fueled flow and delivery during his heyday. His lyrics are cringy, horrorcore garbage.
i actually read quite a lot, and i value quality of prose over plot, so i guess i'd take someone with clever prose over 'straightforward writing'
and kanye is only noteworthy for his production
i can't believe kanye v em in terms of rapping ability is actually an argument that needs to be had
>quality of prose over plot
Haha, either start reading poetry (which you definitely should, it might fix you) or reevaluate why you would possibly do that. Prose Stylists are fun, but they're worthless without good writing to back up their pseudo-metrical sentences.
>arguing kanye vs eminem in terms of lyricism
>em is cringe but kanye not
If so, then Kanye is way more cringe, damn you people try too hard just to be contrarian.
Em songs age like shit but dude can spit. I'm a fan of both anyway so fuck it, but to claim Kanye is better than Em in lyrics or flow is just being retarded.
i mean obviously i prefer people with both
to continue comparing it to hip hop, i wouldn't like a hip hop album with great production but terrible rapping, or vice verse, they both need to be there
i want a book to have both but the quality of writing will make or break the book for me more than the plot will
>they're worthless without good writing
you were the one who was talking about 'straightforward writing', to me that means writing that isn't anything special in itself, but is merely a means to drive the plot along, whereas i need good writing in order to be engaged in a book, no matter how good the plot is
this
i've literally never heard someone argue that kanye is a better rapper than em before, even hardcore kanye stans
No but he's memorable and that's all that matters
I was using good writing to mean pacing, plot structuring, themes etc. Sorry to muddle my words there. Name a time that Eminem doesn't fuck up lyrically for a whole song. The only one I can think of is Kim. He's good at hating his ex, but otherwise, I'm unimpressed.
Kanye may not be excellent but he can hold together two or three songs without a bad line.
When I'm Gone, Like Toy Soldiers, Mockingbird, Stan, Bad Guy, If I Had, Rock Bottom, 97 Bonnie & Clyde, Going Through Changes...
yeah just listen to the second verse of new slaves
fuck-ups:
When I'm Gone - the cringy "mommy cut her wrists" part in verse 3
Like Toy Soldiers
>Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it
Mockingbid
>the entire outro
Stan
>it was you the whole time!
Bad guy is just bad as a whole
I'm losing interest in going through and reading these for one post.
>>Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it
that line isn't exactly a stand alone work of genius but it's fine, there's nothing wrong with it and it by no means ruins the song
are you honestly saying that you think that line is worse than any line kanye has ever written?
>>Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it
that's clutching at straws and you know it, at least 50% of kanye songs will have a line worse than this in it
just admit when you're wrong man
>When I'm Gone - the cringy "mommy cut her wrists" part in verse 3
Kim literally did that after attending an Em concert where he peformed the song Kim.
Don't see the problem in Toy Soldiers. Mockingbird I could pass without the outro too but I don't think it ruins the song.
I won't argue Stan and Bad Guy because it will be just my taste > your taste.
>are you honestly saying that you think that line is worse than any line kanye has ever written?
no, I'm saying there are more Kanye West songs without lyrical missteps, because my initial post It's a pretty bad cliche, man
The problem with when I'm gone is more about this
>You lied to me, Dad, and now you made Mommy sad
>And I bought you this coin, it says 'Number One Dad'
>That's all I wanted, I just wanted to give you this coin
>I get the point, fine, me and Mommy are goin'."
and how his attempt to emulate his daughter's speech is still less important that rhyming constantly winding up feeling really weird.
>Like Toy Soldiers
>>Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it
whats wrong with this line?
well at least for anyone who didnt know you were mentally disabled based on your first post, youve fully confirmed it now, thats good of you
yes
