this is objectively false. a good mix brings out the best of each musical element and creates a dynamic between the different layers. it's no good writing a fantastic piece of music if all the sounds are muddy and indistinguishable from each other. unless that's what you're going for, in which case, it still takes a special mixing technique to perfect that kind of sound anyway.
Don't bother arguing with these people, it's beyond them. Which is ironic, considering Grimes understand the importance of it enough to get outside help on every single album she's released.

There are hundreds of albums every year, and 2015 was no exception. There were better albums than Art Angels and there were worse ones. The problem is people treating the album like more or less than it is. It doesn't need artistic merit to be enjoyable. It doesn't have to have the sounds it does, but Claire wanted it that way so that's what she made. A lot of people don't seem to get that

EXACTLY. A good mix job adds absolutely NOTHING creatively speaking to a piece of music. It merely enhances what the actual creator of the piece of music already put there. It is a craft - not an art. Just like mastering.
