Honestly I enjoyed this season of South Park, but they've completely lost me on this last episode. I mean, most of this season has been pretty on point: division between the genders, mass hysteria over trolling, political correctness going into overdrive being met by the most politically incorrect Presidential candidate of all-time. It was really all adding up to being a very wacky, entertaining reflection of modern day America, I was having a laugh.
But I mean really, you expect me to believe the Trump voter base would turn on their candidate just because he said he stuck his fingers up some people's assholes? Come on Matt and Trey: you guys know the Trumpians would never turn on their leader over something like that. I mean I appreciate the comic irony of Garrison belittling the women leaving his rallies for talking about probing their anuses, only after he's been ranting about raping and killing immigrants and refugees for the last year. The problem though is that this shows they've completely misplaced the source of discontent in America creating President Trump. They can pull out the "Fate of Empires" allegory through Star Wars to explain it as much as they want, but the irony of the jokes doesn't become a comparison to Trump, it becomes a comparison to the consequences of a President Hillary.
I don't get it, how did the show seem from having it's sharpest season in years to becoming blatant shilling and nonsense? Now all of America's ills are being poised on JJ Abrams and magical talking berries. This could have been a real analysis of America's current state over the course of the season, now I'm just expecting it to turn into nonsense and patronizing lecturing through Kyle or Randy.
At the very least I enjoy Gerald's Robin Hood-esque escapades with his trolling companions.
It's making fun of people leaving the amy schumer show and yeah I'm not enjoying this storyline either.
