By saying you've practically raised them for her, does that include trips to the vet? If you take them for their shots/check ups and pay, you've been assuming responsibility for them and under most laws, they'd be considered yours in a dispute.

All visits to the vet for the cats are paid by me, the dog is the only one she's paid the vet bills for.
