I'm using LInux and having a great time. After 2 years of using it, I recently had a chance to try Windows 10 and MacOS, and it's CRAP!
Windows is a buggy mess full of exploits and MacOS is made to let you know that developers think they know better than you what you should and should not do on your system.

LInux is love, Linux is life.

Convience me I'm wrong.

Linux is for faggots

It;s a bold statement since we have Apple users who share the trait of wanting to suck Steve Job's dick.

Also, Apple is literally run by gay men.

Im on android biotch

which is essentially a Linux spin made less usable by a big company

Doesnt change the fact youre a faggot

OP should just die for saying he likes an OS.

And for being a faggot

It's like saying that someone is being a faggot and should die for liking Japanese bullettrain more than American slow expensive tran.

"Convince me I'm wrong"

Protip: You can't

America is always superior. Just ask hiroshima

>im using linux
>using linux

kekd
linux isnt an operating system you giant mongoloid faggot

...

You forgot jew. And nigger

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

[windows refugee considering to go back]
So today i tried to have an swf flash running on my computer. After trying to get it running for one hour i gave up. None of the explanations and guides in forums worked. It's almost like it's one installation for windows and you're good to go, while it takes hours of specialized setup to get this to work somehow on Linux. Doesn't seem like a good deal.
A second thing that bothers the fuck out of me:
Large folder load slow as fuck.
That's not a matter of which Linux variant i chose because the mechanic of identifying each file by its actual data type instead of consulting the appendix like it is done on windows, There seems to be no way around it and the only help i typically find is "go get an SSD" or "get a better computer" or "Linux is so much faster than Windows lololz". Like hell it is.
And i say NO, fuck this - windows can do it without an SSD and a loading time of seconds up to minutes. NO, i will not change the layout of my folders because it's not the cause of the problem.

Also just today my Linux crashed due to "processor overheat". I had a file browser and firefox open...

I'm using win 95

Get on me level fegboys

there you go
gyazo.com/2f09a902bea994969e640722bfc71a90

Sounds like your computer is a piece of shit

Win 95 is the shizz

Sounds like Windows 7 could deal with all the shit i had to do while any Linux variant I've tried, and that have to be almost 10 right to this moment, were simply out performed by an OS which is considered bloat ware by Linux supporters.
I don't give a fuck if 30GB or more are gone of my hard drive, what i do care about is if windows can instantly load a folder and Linux takes literally 30seconds +.

Dude, if your processor is overheating, you have a hardware problem. Re-attach heatsink, get bigger fans, etc. If you have a liquid cooler, check that the pump is running and the block isn't gunked up.

Regards, your friendly neigborhood Linux-using Spiderman

I'm posting from the same PC right now, if it was a hardware problem it'd have crashed hours ago.

..and while we're at it, Linux doesn't do thermal shutdown, that's all your mobo's doing.

>GNU

What does 'GNU' stand for?

How about you actually check the hardware instead of assuming shit

GNU's not Unix

Well then Linux (or whatever program i currently used) doesn't give a fuck about the temperature of the core and doesn't slow it's own operation.
This isn't an issue I've experienced when doing similar operations on Windows - ever. (I did have some problems with gaming, but since Linux is not gaming compatible....)

Right now i use it as a glorified porn displayer.

You're using Ubuntu aren't you?

Your system firmware and the CPU itself cares about the temperature of the core. If it hits the throttle point, your performance gets throttled down to shit. If it hits the overheat point, your computer freezes or shuts off.

Right now L-Ubuntu (because it's apparently so super fast and lightweight huehuehue), but as I've mentioned Ive tried a variety of Linux distros - all of them showed the same issues.

Hell, i even had Arch installed at some point.

Microkernel FTW! At least it won't need to be patched to cover for Intel fuck-up-erry and lose 5-30% of performance.

I recommend the Midnight Commander (mc) file manager. Fast as a greased shit, because it runs in terminal mode and does not give two fucks about the contents of the files it's displaying a list of.

Neither Widnows, Linux, FreeBSD or MacOS X have a microkernel

Did you use ext4?

Microservices > microkernel

...

Checked, everything is around 60°C which is not too cold, but not too hot either.
Too much of a retard right now to fucking crop a screenshot.
Shit like this pisses me off, there's a trillion drawing programs, but i have yet to find one that is so easily usable and intuitive like simple fucking paint.

gay nigger users

I'm using Linuz for work, and it's great(because I know how to handle its error). For newbie is hell indeed.
Still using Windows at home because of GAMES!

you cant play most vidya on linux

Linux is for people who are actually smart enough to write their own shit, and broke niggers who can't afford windows. Both types are insufferable.

Thinking of trying a dual boot with Windows 10 and some flavor of Linux since I have a spare 2 TB laptop hard drive popped into my system that I'm not using. Am I in for a bad time trying to get a dual boot running nowadays?

>Convience me I'm wrong

seeing as how i've been running Linux for 10 years now and have never been happier, i can't, and won't, tell you you're wrong

Dual boot is going to lead to you neglecting the other OS.
Suggest getting a second machine to play with.

I run GNU HURD you insensitive clod!

Tried it before - same problem. Plus it's still more of a pain in the ass for basic navigation then browsing with a mouse. (I enjoy seeing and clicking icons and shit.)
Even the raw terminal had these long loading times.

Not if they are all running in containers on a monolithic kernel that exposes kernel space to user land processes they aren't.

I actually had that kind of setup running at one point. I had a bunch of spare parts sitting around from previous builds and grabbed a junk case and cobbled it together into a system. Had my main system running Windows and my spare running Ubuntu. I didn't end up getting too much use out of the spare system though, since I was too lazy to keep going back and forth between them.

Sounds like there's something fucky with your disk I/O system. Unsupported disk controller, configuration error (incorrect default values), dying disk...

This. You'll tell yourself that you will use both but you will just end up using whichever one you like better.

Linux is just for gaylords that like to type out cryptic commands to install and run programs.
Linux isn't ready for the masses yet....although it is great for running servers

How many files do you / did you have in a single folder?

I've tried it with different configurations, but as a rule of the thumb we're talking about ~ 30k max.
That being said even only 1000 files lead to a loading time of ~ 5 seconds. That is unacceptable.

Not sure what i'm looking at, but well.
I guess I'll give up on Linux because at the end of the day my computer is supposed to be a tool, not a lifestyle product.

>type out cryptic commands to install and run programs.
then you haven't used it for a while. i haven't had to do anything through a command promt in, like, two years at least.

...

>60°C
Nigger that shit is overheating. I wouldn't even let my processor get higher than 50 during the summer.

i agree, Linux is the best of the thee OSs you mention

and despite Linux being the best there are some shitty Linux distros, what i dont like is rolling releases because they have too many broken packages, i prefer stable static releases like Debian and Slackware,

distros like Arch & Gentoo are just too much work to keep a functioning OS

>that shit is overheating
No, not really. It's doing fine for a moderately old Laptop.

Linux is mine. I own it

>60°C
youd be facing the same way cuckbreath

Y not? It's one of the best filesystems out there. If you chose ext2 or ntfs, I wouldn't be surprised for the slow loading of your folder

faggot...

windows 8.1 rules!
