Just finished this for the first time.

So I guess that, in the end, there really was blood.

So I guess that, in the end, this movie is overrated garbage

>movie
Yeah desu, was a bit of a snorefest. Didn't really like the characters, no action, little dialogue, ending part was cool though, wish there was more like that.

damn...

Friendly eminder that:
>There Will Be Blood is a movie disguising itself as a kino
>No Country For Old Men is a kino disguising itself as a movie

This tbqh.
For a movie that's supposed to be about one character becoming evil and his progression, I actually found the character development pretty lacking.
He was already a bad guy from the start, what with his stealing the baby and lying to everyone about it solely to boost sales (one of his most morally reprehensible acts in the film, and it happens in the very beginning), his constant attempts to swindle and cheat people out of their possessions, and his numerous lies all happening in the start. He didn't change as a character, he doesn't become more evil, he just gets more wealth - and we don't even see that.

really makes you think

You miss the point of the movie. It's a period piece. It was at this point in American history that questions of the morality of money began to arise. We see the consequences of life devoted absolutely to scripture and absolutely to the self. There is very much going on in Daniel Plainview's character development, as well as Eli.

One of my favourite films(/movies/flicks)

Do you think it's anti-capitalist?

>For a movie that's supposed to be about one character becoming evil and his progression
Maybe because that's not actually what the movie was supposed to be about

What do YOU think you fucking mong

I do, but it's also critical of people who resist society's forward momentum. That's what makes this a beautiful film.

It was based on a novel by Upton Sinclair, who was an outspoken socialist and ran for governor of California as a socialist.
so it may be a little bit anti capitalist

No, it's anti-greed.

Capitalism is incentivized entirely through revenue streams, it's driven by greed

You're right that it's not balanced

bump

It's a matter of degrees. It doesn't crticize capitalism generally. It does study the Biblical sins of greed and pride as embodied by Plainview and Eli.

Was Plainview a Jew? Or did he descend from gypsies?

Did capitalism even exist at that time? It seems like Daniel is the self-interested aspect of colonial America that literally beats the religious aspect of colonial expansion to death

>did capitalism even exist at that time
