Fuck Humanz

Let's take minute to talk about why HUMANZ sucked.
>every song was either dance/EDM leaving the album feeling repetitive and uncreative
>Albarn's vocals were merely a drop in the ocean of guest contributions
>leave it to an Englishman to talk about the politics of a country that's not even his. The album's message of "fuck Donald Trump" and "feel bad for black people" not only spits in the face of Gorillaz original "reject false icons" message with it's bandwagon narrative, but it dates the album terribly and alienates fans
Thoughts Sup Forums?

it's no Plastic Beach but it's got some bangers

Momentz was good and so was that Sleeping Powder b-side. Rest of the album sucked ass though.

>implying Albarn has ever made an album that was greater than 6/10

Do we really need a thread about how shitty Humanz is every two weeks? If we have to talk Gorillaz, let's discuss S/T vs Demon Days and G Sides vs D Sides, for example.

Alright I'll bite. Demon Days, darker theme led to better consistency, less throw away tracks.

please name me the """""""""""""""""bangers"""""""""""""""""

why does damon feel the need to put political themes in his fictional band made of cartoon characters

He pulled it off in Demon Days. It's beyond half assed on Humanz though

Agreed. Strobelite is pretty good and Let Me Out is a great song

Saturnz Barz was fine, Sleeping Powder and Strobelite felt like old school Gorillaz, and let me out would've gotten a pass if it dropped the politics.

That's because Demon Days focused more on the Oil Wars.

> Dirty Harry and All Alone
Nothing wrong with that. The problem is that it worked well in Demon Days because the political undertone was... well, an undertone, the political message was slightly hidden behind metaphors and vague statements. Humanz straight up mentions Trump (Let Me Out, The Apprentice), and the messages are sent straight to your face, and it's annoying, even if you don't care at all about Trump and his opposition.

yeah. its pretty bad. its one of those albums that almost feels like it should be good but never will ever convince you that it actually is..

It's a decent pop/edm album. My favorite track is Saturnz Barz. But it's a lackluster Gorillaz album. I don't think he'll ever top Demon Days.

This. I want to like it but every time I listen to it I get turned off, especially by all those features. Some songs have a good atmosphere, but that's not enough.

>Blur's 13

My thoughts exactly. Damon can do undertones, whether their social political or environmental. But HUMANZ handles it's message like a fire juggler with Parkinson's.

oops all features

>every song was either dance/EDM
Damon described it as "dance party at the end of the world" like months before it came out.
Also Submission, Charger, Busted and Blue, and Hallelujah Money are all dance/EDM songs? Humanz is a mix of different genres like every other Gorillaz album, but it overall has dance/EDM elements throughout to go along with the theme, which again is "a DANCE party at the end of the world".
>Albarn's vocals were merely a drop in the ocean of guest contributions
Gorillaz is a digital band you fucking nerd. It was always meant to be a collaborative project. If you want just Damon listen to Blur or his solo shit.
>leave it to an Englishman to talk about the politics of a country that's not even his. The album's message of "fuck Donald Trump" and "feel bad for black people"
1. Not the message of the album
2. Were you this triggered by Demon Days too? That album is more of an attack on George Bush than Humanz is of Trump.

>let me out would've gotten a pass if it dropped the politics.
Pusha T has one political line and it's censored out in the album version, Sup Forumscuck.

One line? The entire song describes an Orwellian police state!

Gorillaz is shit anyways

A dance theme true enough, but that doesn't excuse repetition. Demon Days and Plastic Beach had a theme yet every song felt unique.
When it comes to guest contributors, it felt as if they weren't used to their full potential, in a place where there input is needed. And if you don't think PC is the moral of the album then I'd welcome your input. As for Demon Days, they criticized the policies of an established administration. HUMANZ throws ad hominem at a candidate in his political infancy.

I really miss the urban aesthetic and alternative rock/hip hop hybrid that was on their first album.

the fact that it was censored makes it worse
if you're gonna do political commentary in your music, at least have the balls to keep it in

How come no one remembers the absolute banger that is Carnival?

It's because its underwhelming not because its bad. It had some good tracks but its nearly impossible to be an artist like Damon Albarn and then make another Demon Days or S/T/Plastic Beach

same. my fav album of theirs

Honestly, Gorillaz was always a project that played off music trends of the time that each album was released. So of course Humanz has way less rock influences, and more hip-hop/edm sounding songs. Honestly, without mentioning the politics of the lyrics, this album is musically their least adventurous, so I really hope Damon drops that surprise Gorillaz album soon
