Do laptop repair people have to access shit on the laptop itself (thereby seeing my storage of porn and gf's nudes) to fix a physically broken screen?

I'm sure this has been asked a million times online, but I slightly broke my Macbook screen creating black lines and am thinking of finally getting around to go to Apple or some shit and get it fixed. I just wanna know if there's any reason they could accidentally come across personal shit while working and, if so, is there a good way to make a hidden folder or something easy so I can feel less violated?

>inb4 Macs are overpriced shit (I know, but it's what I have)

Bumping with random ass pics off said laptop

Buy External.
Put Pics on External.
Delete From Mac.
Problem solved.

Also, pro tip. All Apple store appointments are booked for next week, basically everywhere in US and Canada.

I know that would solve the problem entirely. I just don't need an external right now and would feel stupid going through all that just to find out they don't even have to turn the computer on to fix it.

Ah holidays, that makes sense

...

...

USB? Email them to yourself, delete them and then redownload off emails once you get it back?

I have like full porn movies downloaded from paid sites so that's why this isn't really an option.

>Do laptop repair people have to access shit on the laptop itself (thereby seeing my storage of porn and gf's nudes) to fix a physically broken screen?

No, but they'll do it anyway.
There's a bounty system encouraging them to report any CP they find.

Technicians are swamped with repairs. They can't afford to dilly-dally on some random computer. You can sleep easy user

This
Also if they have time or have any hint whatsoever that they'll find anything they'll go digging. This is what they do when you're too fucking dumb to safeguard your data or even better fix things yourself

Then external memory is the only solution to it. If you don’t need it or want to do it, then your problem isn’t a problem. Do it for peace of mind or risk it. I can almost guarantee that they’ll look into it because why not? Sometimes free stolen nudes and the customer will never know.

>Macbook

fag detected

Hm this makes sense. I'm not worried about getting arrested or some shit lol, but I just hate how it'd probably easy af for them to access my massive porn folder, especially considering a bunch of shit is personal

for fucks sake, just turn on FileVault. And post the nudes here.

and ignore this dumb shit. it's NOT the only solution.

If for whatever reason you don't want to encrypt the whole thing, here are instructions for creating encrypted disk images.

support apple com/kb/PH22247

It is. They have the potential to copy it all and keep it for themselves to do whatever they want with. They’d get all the stuff you paid for for free and they’d get paid for it.

if it's just replacing the screen, i don't really see any need for them to be on your computer?

Used to work as an IT-Supporter and did all kinds of repairs (mainly hardware).

At the end I ofc had to test the device if everything was working properly. Boy oh boy...the porn and nudes I found on those things was tremendous

Never used it before. Is it as simple as activating it and then reentering my password and shit to access my shit again? And would an Apple technician know how to get past that?

Fuck you, you're the reason I'm so unsure.

No, it's actually because I'd do the same shit so that's why I'm asking this to begin with lol.

that's my job, yes we can see what you have, no we don't do it because we don't care or don't want to waste time
also there's no use for us to see what is in private folders, you can't realy comme acros personal shit

Yes.

Worked Geeksquad for 2 years

We see things from time to time when we formatted the drives while moving the data to a mule

Would moving data or any of that be necessary for fixing a cracked screen though?

>especially considering a bunch of shit is personal
Encrypt your shit, nigga.
Better yet just take the drive out before you give the laptop to them.

No, not because of the holidays. Because of the whole battery performance thing. Stores are booked solid with people demanding new batteries.

Nigga chill. As a tech we would look at this... laugh at it and get back to work. You're a man and watch porn...so what? Your habit matches the 99.8% of the male population and we know that cause we do the same fucking thing.

Needless to say if we found hot nudes of a female customer we would gather everybody around to see it but never make copies of this.

Bet they're kicking themselves over axing user replaceable batteries now

I'm a fucking tech noob, hence why I use a macbook and haven't built a PC or some shit. If I knew how to easily encrypt then I wouldn't be here lol

I know I wish I was kicking them for this bullshit. "Hey, you need a repair... OH but wait... people are bitching about batteries so I can't help you."

It's one-button software, nigga.
The most complicated part is writing down your password somewhere safe where you won't lose it.

They don’t have to. But depending who, you know they would. Do you trust you? Of course not. Just give up to the potential it may be given up. What exactly are you hiding?

National companies will not. The guidelines for repairs are minimal invasive procedures. They’ll test function, not go snooping for things. If the laptop has a password, you do not have to provide it, just expect to have to wait if there are additional complications: speaker wire not plugged in, touch screen having deadzones...Ect. Be patient with them and address this early on if you’re paranoid. Used to work for a company called CPR Cell Phone Repair, we would do screens and would not snoop. 9/10 if a middle aged man brings in a tablet it’s used for nothing but porn. Usually because the husband or father of the family got it for free with their cell phones and after 20 years of marriage, he’s back with his middle school fap master 9000 in terms of sexual enjoyment. People won’t give a shit unless you’ve got some obvious illegal stuff immediately visible.

Huge tits small girl now

>National companies will not. The guidelines for repairs are minimal invasive procedures.
Geek Squad had a partnership with the FBI to sniff out illegal porn.

That’s why you take it to a place that offers same day repairs. If anywhere is saying it takes more than a day after parts are in store to do a repair turn right the fuck around and leave. We would be too slammed with work to go looking anyhow. At least that was my experience.

worked in computer repair in my early 20s and found nudes on almost every machine that came through my shop

saved a few for myself, too. even got a girl I know one time. my boner was raging for days despite her disappointing tits.

Take the HD out before bringing it in. They'll have a spare to test it with. This is your best option. It's five minutes work to remove with a couple of screwdrivers.

worked for Apple a few years back and can confirm that dropping comps off for simple hardware repairs w/o hds was standard practice for anyone who didn't want their files rummaged. Do this, OP.

repair tech reporting in.

we dont have to, no. but if I think there's some likely win on there and have the time I'll have a look around for your gfs nudes.

if you've got drive encryption enabled don't even worry, the techs cant bypass that and wont ask for your password.

make sure you back shit up ahead of time though. one of the most common fixes apple does is just swap the whole thing for a refurbished mac of the same model.

Yes we do have access to your data. You'd be amazed how many girls store nude selfies on their laptops. Yes I've looked at them, no I haven't saved any.

Wait they wouldn't just toss your computer without asking you first though right..?

And you, well I'm just an average 24yr old guy, would you say you'd be more inclined to snoop on a girl's computer for their nudes as opposed to random nudes from people I know?

> they wouldn't just toss your computer without asking you first though right
they'll ask you ahead of time if you've made a backup and tell you that if they need to they'll swap out the whole unit. if you give permission to start the repair, you usually authorize that option at the same time.

back your shit up first or just rip the hard drive out ahead of time if you can. they take 3 minutes to put in and out, and they can check the screen without a hdd in.

Is it pretty safe and easy to remove and replace the SSD in a 2015 Macbook Pro even if you've never really handled internal computer parts before? I know I can look up a video or something, but just curious

like 10 screws to take the bottom off, a couple more after that and thats it. even if you're being stupidly careful it'll take you 15 minutes start to finish.

Thanks, I'll probably just do that then like you and others have suggested. Thank you to everyone for actually being pretty helpful/insightful.

>off by one

you can repay us by posting a couple of those nudes of your gf you're so eager to protect

They don't need to access files user but they do.
It's human nature to nose through people's items /folders and files.
Going back back to 2005 my gf decided to take my laptop for a free cleanup and tune copious amounts of porn and rekt from limewire homemade porn clips from ex's.
Arrive home from work Find a note telling me to pick it up from pc world.
The guy had the look of pure kek on his face as I singed for it.
Nothing came of it but he knew they all knew.
I think the prolapsed midgets as my screen saver gave it away.

Broken screen? Just hook your laptop up to your TV with and hdmi cord

now that was a funny post..... it's so god damn wrong that I can envision that screensaver!

He has CP stupid. That or degenerate shit like beastiality.

If that was my job I wouldn't report cp.
I want nothing to do with that.

>I just don't need an external right now and would feel stupid
you sound pretty stupid. this is an obvious solution and you just don't want to for some reason

Or maybe I'm broke af at the moment and feel like I'm not gonna use the external again after that?

Also why does someone have to have illegal shit to want to ensure privacy? I thought this was something most people cared about even if they don't have a huge mountain of cp or some shit.

Encrypt the hard drive.
