Just move or delete your VSTs from your VST folder?

That needs way more bass and way less high end.

it's called clear cache/re-scan, it's an option in preferences

I think when you install VST's, registries or something are installed so when you re-format and just try to add VST's back in, they wont work properly. You have to reinstall all of them.

Is there any reason to use a 4-track to record to tape over just using my audio interface?

I've been recording guitar/bass either with DI or by mic-ing the amp and it sounds very flat and sterile. I just have a 2i2 and an SM57 so I wasn't expecting much but still.

I really like the idea of using a 4-track for the tape artifacts but I only have one mic that doesn't use XLR and I dunno if it's worth spending ~75 bucks just because I think it sounds fun, if I ended up getting a lot of use out of it I would be really excited but I'm worried it'll kinda be more trouble than it's worth

you can just get a p10 (or whatever your mic is) to xlr cable. ask on the shop and they make it on the spot. or do it yourself it aint hard

i think it will improve your mixes. i have positive results with the VTM plugin on all raw tracks currently

also i too have interest on using tape artifacts on my productions. would that generate an extra cost of buying new tapes regularly because they wear out of rewriting it?

Rate but keep in mind i changed the drum pattern after first uploading this.
Both seem very quiet and the fact that they're actually sausages despite that is illusory. Maybe the second one is slightly better though.

i have them set up correctly, it's probably just my lack of ability to suss out what's wrong and my hearing is probably shot too
i just to listen to them on any which way i can (monitors, phone speakers, cars), reference them against professional tracks, but i know i'm still miles off

yeah they're only mixes to figure out if all the sounds aren't masking one another/sufficient spectral balance (which of course neither comes close)
i haven't come close to a final mixdown yet
also i mix too quietly, it's something i really need to work on

No it's not, it's usually the result of applying techniques in a paint-by-numbers way (e.g. always using the same standard mix techniques like 160 on the kick and 76 on the snare with go-to settings) instead of listening carefully and using intuition

Even the dumbest pawn shop/cash converter store staff know how to price their stuff now by searching eBay so you're limited to classified ads and Gumtree for potential bargains - music stores take stuff in trade-ins but they pay shit prices and charge over the odds when they sell so I'd avoid them too, except maybe visiting them to check if they have notice boards where people advertise sales of their gear, record stores are useful for that too.

I was thinking of maybe a forum. From experience with other enthusiast gear (bikes, cameras), private sellers tend to sell much cheaper within their community than they would do on ebay etc

I'm using a piece of shit laptop and I have to use three projects for each song because of the massive lag having two or more heavy plug ins going at the same time generates.

On one hand, using three projects is kinda cool cause it allows you to be very organized. On the other hand, it's tedious as fuck.

Don't do this, that sounds like a complete drag. Do anything to get a good device, even your phone can make beats these days, save up for something, suck some cocks

I make one for exporting tracks with effects, other for mixing and other one for mastering. it's kinda like freezing tracks except I can go back to the original project and modify them later on if I need to change or add something.

Is an XLR mic connected straight into the computer's microphone jack always going to have some background hiss, or is that a problem with my mic or something?

XLR cable with a 1/4" jack connected to a 1/4" to 3.5" jack adapter. I've been meaning to try a different XLR cable since this one came with the mic and seems to be low quality, but I can't find my other one at the moment.

No card. Using the motherboard input. I've just now begun to get serious about audio recording stuff, so I'm not invested in it at all. I'm just using what I already have.

Ok, yeah, that's a problem. You need to look into getting a preamp at a minimum.

honestly, scratch all of that and the previous suggestion, go get a decent XLR to USB cable. those will include a preamp powered over the USB and will typically have OK filtering. you can grab a good one for around 20 bucks.

Also go around to forumns and start doing research on what it takes to get mics up and running in general. tons to learn.

Oh shit, that things might be an old re-branded Sony mic. how old is that thing? I was right, it is a condenser, However, it's battery powered, so you don't need phantom power AFAIK, though phantom power would probably be a good idea.

same story as the Shure, unfortunately, you need a preamp OR XLR to USB to run it. XLR to USB would really be a better option.

If you're feeling adventurous and want to make that 33-1080 kick some ass replace the battery with a 6V or 12V lighter battery.

In omnisphere there is a sample "Granular Guitaret", sometimes it strikes really amazing sound, it sounds like the 5th gliding, if you have Omnisphere, try looping single chords, you will hear it or you know what it is.
The problem is, this sounds plays only randomly, but I need it to play every time. How to do it?

try to play with those effects

The most important thing, mind your volume levels, clean up unwanted frequencies, compress to avoid peaks. Everything must have its own space to work in. That's general tips. Master those and everything else will be clear.

A bunch of saturation on the master to glue everything together as well.
