PhD in molecular biology / stem cell biology here again. Ask me about the field and my non-existing career.

prove it

Do you want to a certificate with nearly any information blacked?

>bioLOGy

Fuck off.

...

Do you think majoring in biochemistry is a good idea as far as a bachelors is concerned? Wat do next? Always thought about pharmavology, idk though.

What is your day to day work routine and doesn't it get boring after a while?

There are theoretically many jobs. But there are also many graduates. Generally, not a bad idea for a Bachelor followed by some more specialised stuff (Bioinformatics is hot at the moment).

I'm not involved in the field at the moment. I work minimum wage in retail while job hunting. And yes, that's a shit situation.

That sucks i'm sorry for you. Good luck finding something soon

Wanna cure aging and conquer the world?

I didnt go straight biology because I love chemistry, didnt go straight chemistry because the interactions between chemistry and human physiology is more interesting than just chemistry.
What does bioinformatics entail?

And where do you live OP?

Mainly processing and analysis of omics data as well as other large scale datasets (high throughput screens etc.).

You have a PhD in one of the growing and cutting edge areas in health (genetics being the big one) and you can't get a job?

You must either suck, have no interpersonal skills or you really pissed off your PhD supervisor

Germany.

>You have a PhD in one of the growing and cutting edge areas in health (genetics being the big one) and you can't get a job?

The output of bio* PhD equal to or likely ever higher than the growth of industry.

>You must either suck

My PhD and first postdoc certainly weren't successful. Whether it is lack of skill or bad luck, I don't know.

shall I do my PhD?
I'm about to finish my biology master in computational molecular evolution...

In my experience, it was fucked but fucked up my life.

Let's say someone got a B.S. in molecular biology a few years ago but has since worked outside the field. What could someone in such a situation do to get back into the field? Internship or something?

the first fucked should be "fun". Maybe that was Freudian.

why? Bad payment?
Or shitty results/thesis?

Prove AIDS isn't real and keep a loaded gun under your pillow and you'll have a career.

Yes. Or, if possible do a quick Masters. At least a Master greatly improves your chances of employment and salary.

>Or shitty results/thesis?

Shitty results and no especially useful skills. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Redpill me on the difference between academia and industry. Pros and cons of both.

I have no direct experience with industry because I cannot find a job there.

YOU HAVE 99 JOBS AND A STEM CELL AIN'T ONE.

I'm a forensics major myself, graduating in May. How is a career this nonexistent? Also I was told that it is better for someone in my field to go straight to working from university because you'll have the experience advantage over someone else who spent 2 years getting a Master's diploma. But Master's diplomas are THE thing you need for anywhere outside >America ?

make a homemade artificial womb and clone yourself.

By I meant
>In the time it will take for someone else to get a Master's in two years, you will have two years of experience over them

Generally, after a Bachelors you don't have that much practical experience or specialized knowledge. A Master usually adds both - some knowledge beyond the basis and at least some longer research project. At the same time, you are still young and shapeable.

Of my peers. I know of nobody who went from a Bachelor directly into the labour market (this might have to do with some peculiarities of the German university system at that time). But I had quite a few peers who got a good job after their Masters.

molecular biology?
are you able to play with the atoms or cells to great superhuman or enhancements?

How does one get a Master's without going into crippling debt? Is such a thing even possible?

Europe.

Which country?

Germany, Switzerland, BeNeLux, Scandinavia. It's not MIT but all have good educational facilities at a reasonable price. Dunno how it works for Americans though.
