out the way nerds

>XL jazz iiis

my ass just vomited

Who?

>XL
Defeats the purpose of a Jazz III.

explain this meme?

Seems like a plain old metal pick to me.

The main advantage of a jazz III is the sharper point. A lesser factor is the small size forces you to expose less tip, you can get the same effect with XL ones by just choking up a little bit.

Attack

But does it protec?

>He can't tremolo-pick 250 bpm with a dull pick
>Needs Meme 3s for muh intricacy

Fuck off with your cancerous plebbit memes

Rhythm guitar is incredibly boring I only play leads/fills
Anyone else feel this way

I just can't sit there strumming chords it's mind numbing
I need to be flying all over the neck

He attac
But didn't expect the other user to protec

Kirk Hammett's

This is the best pick, now someone tell me what the best

So stop playing boring rhythm parts, get into a fun genre instead

Can you not play both at once?
>laughingDimebag.jpg

he attac
he protec
he wank all over nec

Then don't play rhythm guitar and stop fishing for complements.

>the V cut helps improve handling
He just wanted it to look like the Pick of Destiny.

I use the yellow one the most now; I also like the large red and black one as well as the grey and black

9-42 strings, half step down, single coils, that's my shit

>9s
>half step down
lmao

>he doesn't play 7s in C standard
lmao'ing at u

Tone knobs are completely useless

here's your (you)

Sounds like the problem here is that you are just too fucking good and totally not a douchebag at all.
Pic related is totally not what you are.

>I am completely useless

Fixed that for ya, buddy.

The visual appearance of a guitar is more important than how it sounds.
In fact the way a guitar looks is the most important aspect.

You can't say I'm wrong.

youtube.com/watch?v=FUpYgwvcek8

Pre-CBS strats are best at both.

Yeah, because in recordings you can totally see the guitar.
Moron.

>he can't see the guitar through sound alone
Get a load of this fucking pleb

I got this edwards from japan a month ago and I fucking love it

This is like the opposite of a super strat.

playing the guitar is hard. i tried once and it was really hard to place my fingers rapidly one accord after the other.
> i know i know... i suck ass. so now you can show me your guitar expertise by any means necesary

It takes years
Everyone you see who is proficient at playing took years to get that way

Oooh... It's a dick pic! Now I get it.
I get it now, everybody!

But.. why? It's like a strat, but not as comfortable and probably doesn't have the sexy signature stratocaster-sound. Looks pretty neat tho.

You can larp as Prince with it

>tfw finish every "training session" with disposable heroes playing just rhythm
its good for developing strength even if i get physical pain and burns in my shoulder right?

No. Good posture is essential.

This.
You'll hate yourself for being a dumbass when you're older.

Work on your rhythm playing. A good rhythm player is going to have a bit more than just strumming one thing at a time. Strumming patterns, muting, emphasizing notes

>He doesn't tremolo-pick with his fingers
micro les paul?

Is satin finish better for neck back? I think gloss finish will get sticky after a while.

I think so, but it's very much a personal preference.

>Tfw it is too early to play my marshall

What are some good locking tuners for stratocaster (modern style tuners) when on a budget?

Just started practicing the ionian scale, and I play faster with my fingers. I'm decent with a pick, but i'm way faster fingerbanging. Should I learn to use a pick or can I finger-pick everything.

Don't use theory buzzwords here, you'll get bullied.

WHY THE FUCK DOES SCHECTER ONLY SELL CUSTOM SHOP PICKUPS IN THE US AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

has anyone on here unironicly learned to play without a teacher?

I've been self taught for 10 years and I can learn stuff pretty fast but I don't know jack about theory and as usual I can only improvise pentatonic shit. It's pretty sad.

Is it ok for shoegaze?

youtube.com/watch?v=patkTztLSAs

Yes

Anybody own one of these? How good are they? Saw Satchel doing a demo in a video once.
I wish they weren't $300.

But theory is much easier to self-teach than technique. It's an hour in front of your computer.

how'd you start??

Why do I find it easier to learn new musical concept on piano than guitar? I always try out new things on piano because learning it on guitar. I feel like I'm almost cheating on guitar.

how'd you start!?

Personally I didn't like it. It does the full simulation of the sounds it copies. As in it simulates a cab and mic. Makes it sound nice I guess but it feels super post processed to me.

Nice product but I did not like it and traded it away within a week.

I'm too lazy and I don't like when a hobby becomes a chore, that's why I hate theory. I've accepted my fate, was destined to become a meme guitarist/bedroom warrior.

Guitar Hero 3 got me into real guitar because I thought the concept of [Slash] a real person being in a videogame was cool as shit. Started with easy shit like Smoke in the Water but the first song I learned from start to finish was One.

It' can't be too bad as a practice amp to take when you have to go out, right?
youtube.com/watch?v=Vr7NQHrLQxY
If it can sound like a 5150 I'd get it for that alone.

How on Earth can you play for 10 years and not know anything about music theory surely you must know about scales intervals relative Keys circle of fifths that sort of thing

I mean how'd you learn to play by yourself?

>surely you must know about scales intervals relative Keys circle of fifths
I have no fucking clue what you're talking about. I just learn songs from bands I like by ear.

Read the reply above. Just listen and play what you hear, you'll get good at it with time.

clyp.it/cki5achg
I recorded this just two hours after I started learning that song.

It's a fine practice amp, yeah. I can't comment on the high gain sounds on the x as I had the c. Sounds like you would get some use out of it though. Personally I would prefer the blackstar fly 3. So much cheaper and it's even more portable. (though I sold that too)

Obviously the Yamaha is better, but I'd rather save some money on my practice amp.

Is Travis picking hard to master in application?

Once you've learned a few songs with different travis picking patterns and you know your chords and chord tones, it's really not too bad.

Mastering is kind of a subjective thing though and you might never "master" it.

Oh I should add. I had a hard time using the yamaha as a true practice amp because all of the post processing and effects covered up my mistakes. I need to hear those mistakes to practice effectively.

Do you at least know what a key is

Nah senpai

You seem to pride yourself on ignorance. I guess that's cool for you. I just can't understand how somebody can play for so long and know absolutely nothing. That in itself is quite a feat.

Which is better?
1/2

2/2

I know a person who is in the same place as this dude, except she's playing keyboards. I was blown away when I found out - I guess I can kind of understand how a guitarist might ignore theory, but piano is literally the most basic instrument theory-wise, everything you need to know is right in front of you.

aren't you even interested in learning? anything? its not a chore. literal children can do it. i dont understand.

You can fingerpick everything. You can use however many fingers you want. You can use a thumbpick. You could hybrid pick. You can use piccado to pick, you can use tremolo (not plectrum tremolo) to pick, you can alternate between thumb and index to "alternate pick" while doing fingerstyle. Figure out your technique, there's no definite right or wrong in technique unless you're playing classical guitar. Certain techniques facilitate different things, best to invest time in everything. But you certainly can "fingerpick" in the style of plectrum picking. Just try to be as unsloppy as possible in technique, whatever you choose to do.

And don't call the Ionian mode the Ionian scale, just call it the Major Scale. MAJOR SCALE.

I'm not proud of it, like I said I just accepted my fate. Other than making videos for TooToobe I have no future in music.

To be honest I'd rather become a luthier, I enjoy customizing guitars.

It's funny because "Ionian" isn't even a scale, it's a mode of a scale.

If I play mainly through amp modelling software on my computer, do I really need a variety of different guitars? My heart is telling me I need an archtop hollow body guitar, but my brain is telling me I can already get similar tones using my amp software and that I'll have buyers remorse.

GAS never ends.

thanks man

What guitars do you have?

It's the Major scale, the Ionian mode, as I referred it. Thee major scale, the most important scale. Not a mode of the major scale, is the Major scale. Like Ionian Greeks.

You can call it whatever you want doesn't change what notes are in it. A aeolian, c ionian, a natural minor, d Dorian mode etc all the same thing just different root notes

whichever matches your hardware

I'm in his same position and I'm bretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD or something.

You've made your guitar playing into a self fulfilling phrophecy, if you had ever had desires to go somewhere with music at least. Bad disposition to have. Music theory is the simplest shit.

"Ionian" isn't a scale, it's a mode. I didn't start the theory pedantry, I just followed it through to its logical conclusion.

A Telecaster with single coils, an HSH Superstrat, a classical guitar, and a steel string acoustic. The tele already sounds pretty jazzy to me in the neck position, but I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing.

People looking to understand modes should read this. Getting the gist of them is this simple.

I'm glad you can see what I'm getting at. Most people just call me retarded when I tell them g mixolydian is the same thing as a minor just with a g root note.

Ionian is a mode, yes, first mode of the major scale. C Ionian is C major, it's a scale. The first mode of the major scale is the major scale, it's a scale. The Phrygian mode is a scale, and a mode of the major scale, but it's a scale differing from the Natural Minor scale only by it's b2nd note. Modes are scales. Don't have to get butt hurt. Wasn't looking to start an argument, but you seem to have some misconception about the first mode of the major scale not being a scale and not being the major scale.

You could argue for an HH hollowbody; remember that the point of having more than one guitar is not just that they sound different, but that they play differently, too.

I think after that, though, you'll have a pretty decent spread of guitars. Not much point having more.

You've missed the point. "Ionian" is a term describing a mode, not a scale.

Remember I'm not defending pedantry, I'm just pointing out that if someone is going to bother saying "Ionian" rather than "major", they might as well use the term properly.

Really? This is exactly my way of thinking of them, I understand the deviations from similar scales and the major scale for the modes of the major scale, but this is simply the easiest way to think of it and teach it, especially if someone has a foundation with say just 1 key and hasn't learned every note and all about intervals. Play C maj starting with D ending at D and it's D Dorian, a natural minor scale with a major 6th, the B note. Just stating for anyone lurking who wants a little boost to check out modes. Not very complex at all. Was a mystery to me for a while.

Fair enough

This is definitely a useful way of teaching/thinking about it (especially on piano) for beginners - it's called the 'relative' approach.

When you get futher in, I'd argue you're much better off using the 'parallel' approach - which (the second of) you hinted at when you said "a natural minor scale with a major 6th". When you use this approach you can add 'flavor' notes into pentatonic scales, very useful for making your soloing more interesting.

It's because the Piano is good while the guitar is trash.

Piano is just much much easier to begin with
