Should have known better by Sufjan
Pink Floyd - Time
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Eminem - Stan
Marilyn Manson - Man that you fear
Hey Mama
She's Leaving Home
Coldplay - The scientist
Gorillaz - Tomorrow comes Today (not edgy)
Gordon Lightfoot - Carefree Highway
also Gordie - If You Could Read My Mind
Al Stewart - Year of the Cat
Fleetwood Mac - Seven Wonders
Some old follies cut deep, man. Lightfoot is some somber fucking music. It only gets sadder as you get older, too.
Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadephia
Sting - Fields of Gold
Jimmy Eat World - 23
Sorority Noise - A Better Sun
River Man by this man.
Johnny Cash - Hurt

He's dying and so is his wife when he sings the song, and he knows it. June Carter died 3 months later and he died 7 months later.
His whole life story is in the video.
>inb4 Trent did it better. It was a different song for him.
>No one has posted this yet
How?
>Lightfoot is some somber fucking music. It only gets sadder as you get older, too.
This. Can't agree more.
Tim Hecker - Neither more nor less

mu, I'm sitting here and crying my fucking face off
Jason Molina - Just be simple

Gets me every time.
This is a weird thing to admit, but Self Esteem by the Offspring makes me cry.
Hits close to home because of how much of a loser I felt like I was as a teenager.
>At the Drive-In - Cosmonaut
this song makes me cry because of how intense it is. It always bring me back to when I was angry sad at girls in my late teens/early 20's.
On that note,
>Thursday - This Side of Brightness
Ah, Lightfoot reminds me of this:
Tom Rush - Drivin' Wheel
youtube.com
he's breakin' down
Basically anything off of the albums The Con by Tegan and Sara or The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me by Brand New.
Specifically "Dark Come Soon" and "Limousine".
>Simply to live, that was my plan
Radiohead - all i need
King krule - easy easy
Beach house - space song
Slowdive - alison
my nigga
David Bowie - Heroes
REM - Everybody Hurts
Micheline by sun kil moon
>David Bowie - Heroes
Hell yes. The Aphex Twin remix of this is a really chilling version that actually enhances my feelings for the original in a way that was so damn unexpected. Have you heard that, user?
Post youtube links you lazy cunts
9 inch nails - hurt
...
Jesus fucking off yourself
th-they ripped that off of J-Johnny C-C-Cash you faggot
Just gave it a listen, the beginning and the end didn't do much for me, but the part where bowie is really wailing was bretty good.
>he said grace cathedral park
SAVE MEE FROM MY SICKNESSSS
and tell me why do you treat me like this
radiohead - fake plastic trees
>She wanted love like anyone else
>She had dreams like anyone else
youtube.com
This version just has a weird gut wrenching feel to it
>and I know for sure that you'll never be the one
:'(
That line kills me, man. It reminds me of being in older relationships where I loved a girl but was no longer "in love" with them. I'm 31 so I've got a few of them in my past and it still stings.
I honestly can't believe no one has posted Broken Heart yet.
The fact that he's dead makes it worse
Ain't the same for you and me
Cartoons like reality dogs and cats and children
The deepest wound is hidden

This is one of her more melancholy recordings, but even her cheerful stuff has this edge of sadness to it that I love.
lol how much of a narcissist are you. The song's about the girl who isn't into you.
The hot popular girl who still will come down and hang out with you, but keeps you on a string, seemingly just to toy with you. It's almost like she came down to go on a walk with you as some ironic joke. You did get close with her one time, but the way she treats you regularly, it's almost like it happened in some other world.
Yet you see her with all her other friends, acting normal with them, being honest, enjoying life. And you wonder why she simply can't do the same with you. Why does it feel like YOU'RE always the one on the fringes, being treated different than everyone else? What did you do to deserve this?
No actually Trent wrote the first version, but it is said that upon hearing Johnny Cash sing it, he said the song no longer belonged to him
Gary Jules - Mad World
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow you Into the Dark
Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely
Explosions in the Sky- First Breath After Coma
Immortal Technique - You Never Know
Pear Jam - Jeremy
no Hallelujah?
kek
That's the literal version of the lyrics.
You don't ever cherry pick lyric meanings to fit your life or, I also identify with both people in the song for different reasons. I was the asshole for most of it.
Do you take all songs literally?
I dont take the music literally all the time
But the lyrics, for the most part as literally as i can. If the writer is going to be poetic with it he's going to shroud them in poetic-ness. If he just wants to get something off his chest he's going to shout it into the microphone.

not really one for sad music because of some really ugly years with depression that i've mostly recovered from, these two are on my "no-play" list for good reason.
Ween i dont want it
Pain of Salvation has a song about a miscarriage that is absolutely brutal
mark the image; for the year's woes are collated therein
get laid pussy
Grace Cathedral Park was playing at my desk when my gf came in the room and broke up with me out of nowhere. This was about 2 years ago and I still can't listen to it without feeling really sad.
Voice in Headphones by Mount Eerie. Really anything on that record. Not sure why, but all those songs just resonated when I was young, angsty, and pining after this girl. Only got more intense after, really.
>Goodbye to you, my trusted friend
This one just makes me cry about no longer being young. Memories lost to time that get sadder and more distant the older I get.
Fuck, how was I supposed to know Red House Painters would get even sadder for me the older I get.
>Brand New
my nig nog
>I will see you in the next life
It always fucks me up. I've heard this song millions of times but it still has that soul crushing feel to it.
Recently I found a beautiful cover of this song where a brass band pays tribute to a friend who died. It doesn't even have vocals, but the last line of the song is so fucking powerful and you feel the same emotions in your head as if someone's singing them.
For anyone interested - youtu.be
>Back Pack-Andrew Jackson Jihad
A brutal song about his girlfriend who killed herself...and him finding her after she did so. Gets me every time.
>"I don't know what they did to your face, and I don't like it"
A good friend of mine blew half of his face off when he was 15 because he didn't want to be alive anymore. They had a fucking open casket funeral, and the image of his face, half plastic and caked with make up, will haunt me forever.
not exactly crying sad, but Sunday and Unmade Bed by Sonic Youth are both very melancholy
youtube.com
The lines "As the days stand up on end, you've got me wondering how I lost your friendship/but I can see it in your eyes" always get me
A few Harry Chapin songs get me. Also Kuiama by ELO makes me cry
>the carpenters - superstar
>teen suicide - no, the moon
>elliott smith - say yes
>the mountain goats - source decay
>beach house - apple orchard
>codeine - D
This fucked me up right now. I'm a huge LUM fan, but I somehow don't recall ever listening to this even though I know I heard this album.
As someone who also suffered with clinical depression for a long time, I'm kinda fucked up right now with this song :(
Jackson C. Frank - I Want to Be Alone

Especially if you know about his life
The Smiths - I Know It´s Over
youtube.com
At the end when he is almost crying
"Oh Mother, I can feel
The soil falling over my head"
>Have A Nice Life - I Don't Love
I've been playing this on a loop while I'm crying in my bed and wishing for death and hating how apathetic I've become, recognizing that love was never meant for me and other stuff, that kind of shit.
>Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been
Almost same feelings from this as "I Don't Love"
The lyric
>Happiness and peace of mind were never meant for me.
hits hard.
>Pink Floyd - Nobody Home
>I have an urge to fly, but I've got nowhere to fly to
Fuck me
>Radiohead - No Surprises
It's the best suicide song
Sorry

Jason Molina was a fucking genius. It is my goal to spread his music to everyone I know.
Sparklehorse - Sad and Beautiful World
I felt like a knife got plunged into my heart when I found out Mark Linkous killed himself. He was so fucking brilliant.
boring drivel
>I felt like a knife got plunged into my heart when I found out Mark Linkous killed himself. He was so fucking brilliant.
