Cell phone repair technician

Cell phone repair technician.
AMA.

Do you check the files of the phones you get and have no password?

Have you ever found cp

No, but customers have to leave a password for me to test the phone after whatever repair. I don't go through files mostly because it'd suck if my stuff was combed through. I've got weird shit on my phone.

Not yet, no. Lots of customers with porn backgrounds and lock screens, on both computers and phones.

To clarify: I do repairs on everything, but cell phones are my main.

What was the most disgusting thing you have found on a phone

What happened if you failed to fix a devices?

why are you such a goddamn faggot?

As a sales rep I have actually had people come in with "ransomware viruses" from attempting to enter cp websites.

You know the ones that say
"Your ip has been tracked for entering a CP website pay $1000 to blah blah account or we will forward the info to the FBI"

I've actually thought about reporting it myself

How do you know it was from tryna enter cp sites?

how much to fix a samsung galaxy 7 active screen?

Apple repair technician here. Also AMA

how to disable and remove all bloatware? my phone came preloaded with facebook. i disabled it but i want it removed from my phone. i can't remove it though, no option to do that.

reveal hidden codes and what they do. like the ## codes

From the literal Java message that comes up from accessing a website like that. Its a real virus, it literally locks you into that screen and hard factory resets do nothing for it. You know how when you access a porn website it let's you know it's from watching porn. It makes sense this one appears from accessing cp websites for the fact it states its for that reason. It's mostly old men as well

How do repair shops go about unlocking phones like iPhones? Do they have contacts inside of carriers?

I believe only root can help you there but I'm sure it'll fuck with the phone is you're successful in removing it

My Galaxy Note 1 gets slower and slower. If it was a Windows PC, I'd say it's time to reinstall windows, get rid of all the clutter etc. What do I do with a cellphone? Does it make sense to reinstall Android? Is it at all possible?

Porn on a guy's desktop. Nothing too depraved.

Tell the customer it's not repairable and don't charge them.

Because I literally cannot stop sucking cocks user

And sorry for the delay, taking inventory.

When you come onto Sup Forums pretending to be whatever it is you're pretending to be today do you do a load of research and have some actual facts either written down or in a text document or do you just wing it?

Gimme a good cheap source on parts.

Would post tits, but I doubt anyone wants them.
Anything I can help you with?

EBay is where I get most of my uncommon stuff, other than that there are some local vendors I drive around to that sell parts to me. Good prices if you buy local, usually, or if you know a manufacturer based outside of the US, it will be cheaper if you don't mind large orders and long shipping.

I want to see tits

2nd this.

That'll be a yes to the research then, your shooping could use improvement though

I'm a man, anonymous.
Something else I can help you with, maybe?

No shooping. I do use gimp for very simple graphic things though.

Still want to see your tits. At least give us a picture of you rubbing your nipples

If a digitizer is cracked and glued to the screen, do you replace just the digitizer or the whole assembly?

This

It depends. Usually I wind up replacing the whole assembly. If I have lcd-glass separation or refurbishing I need done, I have a vendor that hooks me up.
What's good is taking working oem lcds and refurbishing them, then selling them at oem price. If I replace an entire assembly I usually do after-market and keep the broken assembly for refurb.

Maybe when I get off work in an hour or so.

You might have to make another thread then tbh

are zenfones worth buying?

I worked for Fido a canadian cell phone company and I always had to test data on peoples phone and most people didnt know how to close there tabs so almost every phone I tested had at least two porn tabs open

Whats the most retarded thing somebody has ever done to their phones?

>Cell phone repair technician.
>AMA.

What's your take on the Pixel series ?

Are you Louise?

do you work for a company or for yourself? How did you get into the business? I know a little about repairing phones and computers just from fixing my own and stuff for friends and family. I wouldn't mind doing something like that if the pay is decent.

Maybe.

Flagship at 400? Maybe used, definitely not new. At that point you may as well just get a 5T.

Kek. Good shit. People I get are a little less retarded, still some people who just don't care though.

Water damage customers are dumb. One guy had a phone, forgot it was in his hand while he was at the pool. You can imagine how well that went.

Google makes really good phones, but not ones with hardware or features that are worth 700+. Used maybe, don't know the price point for those. Cameras are solid, screen has good glass and the display is alright. Good waterproofing. Battery life is a little shit but it charges super fast.
I got an s7 for 200. Good price, good water resistance, good hardware, good interface. I hate non-samsung roms, too, so there's that.

No, sorry.

Fucked around with electronics, relative knew a guy who had a company. Entry level pays shit, if you want money while still fixing stuff get into microsoldering. I'm mostly here because I'm broke, I like fixing stuff, and my schedule is flexible.

Got replaced screen, ear repro and charging port on iPhone 6S, everything is OK except when I try to wake and unlock it it freezes with black screen for a few seconds until it lights up and works normally, any ideas? thx

Can you access the private mode on android phones?

>Google makes really good phones, but not ones with hardware or features that are worth 700+. Used maybe, don't know the price point for those. Cameras are solid, screen has good glass and the display is alright. Good waterproofing. Battery life is a little shit but it charges super fast.

the reason why the Pixel 2's are so expensive, because of the modern hardware they put in (i.e. BOSCH sensors, faster storage chips due to the file-level real-time encryption - instead the usual partition-level encryption)

and then there's the brand-new 8-core machine-learning/AI chip (see TensorFlow), side-by-side to the usual Qualcomm SoC

U gonna answer or nah?

theresplenty of those that just have that on there to scare you. its not all real.

notice that space between the midframe and the back? if someone reapplies the adhesive cand it be fixed?

Doubt it's hardware related, were you having the issue before the swap? I remember that scandal with Apple slowing down their phones through software updates, and if it's working fine, I don't even know where to start diagnostics, really.
Guess you could try removing a few apps if your storage is full and running a scan with malwarebytes to rule those out.

If the customer leaves a PIN. I try to always get one to test phones. Sorry for taking so long, by the way If you've got the necessities of a normal consumer, none of that means anything to you anyway.
I don't use AI stuff because it's pretty sketchy to me. But you obviously know the phone's construction better than I do (all I know is it's pretty easy to fix, honestly) so you're able to give a better opinion on it. That said, I wouldn't buy it because I care pretty much only about speed, water resistance, and price.

How much do you make? Is it worth it? Is it hard to do? How to get into it?

>It's a real virus, from the FBI

so did someone who owns a business hire you to fix things, or does your mom just tell her friends you're good with computers?

I'm also a cell phone repair technician! I focus mainly on Samsung, HTC, and Google phones. I tend to stay away from the iPhones (newer at least). If anyone wants to know anything about android phones, ask me anything!

IIRC, Samsung S7 active screens are a bit tricky to do. You've gotta be really careful when removing the digitizer because it's really easy to puncture. Try watching some youtube videos if you're serious about it.

10 hourly. Sure, if you need something to hold you over (I'm a college student, it's not bad money and the schedule is flexible for me). No, it's not hard once you get into it. The way to get into it is just to read up on your shit, iPhones especially since that's a huge part of the market, and hope somewhere takes you. It depends on who's managing the company, some prefer people with no experience, some prefer the opposite.

Did you mean me, or that guy? That wasn't my post.

I don't blame you user, I don't take iPhone x repairs because the construction is so shitty.

Listen to this guy.

Did google assume more and more of their framework so that no legal proprietary argument could be made when they, "came out with their own open source software that's just like linux and compatible with everything we promise"

I probably meant not the guy I'm responding to and anyone who just happens to read the post.

>you don't have to be smart to fix things kids, just be a good parts changer. Like ghetto tattoo artists who use tracepaper you'll always match someone's pricepoint

I'm not OP but I'm also a repair technician.

It's the easiest job I've had. All you gotta do is order replacement parts from amazon and watch a youtube video or 2. Having past experience makes it really easy to start making money. I get anywhere around 5-10 repair requests a day. I usually profit about $25-$50 from them which means I make good money. To get into it, you should apply to any kiosks or stores that offer repairing. Most will pay you hourly unless you're self employed (like me) then you can decide how much you want per repar.

Also, I stay away from new iPhones (7 and up) because the parts cost too much money and it's very difficult to profit from it because people don't want to pay that much. I suggest starting with Samsung and HTCs.

s

is there a way to bypass activation lock on iphones that you know of, op?

Insert the phone in your anus and smear toothpaste on your nipples while shouting ACTIVATE

do this up to three times until the phone unlocks

same for the apple technician, if you'd be so kind as to answer~

I'm not really knowledgeable on google's software and affiliation with the open source portion. I mainly focus on hardware and specifications of the phones. Sorry about that.

are you talking about the FUCHSIA OS ?

Apple is really good with the security of the activation locks. I reckon that they will never have a loophole or "trick" to unlocking them in the future. Samsung used to be sketchy, but they've definitely worked it out.

Is planned obsolescence a thing?

>I'm not really knowledgable

What phone is the best? without saying "it depends" 50 times like on again off again tech support

No never that makes no sense

>Is planned obsolescence a thing?
it definitely is! it started when Samsung stopped making it possible that the battery is user-replaceable .
and the rest of the OEMs followed

What would be the use of lying about doing their best and the world being round?

that's a shame :/ my friend gave me a phone she had lying around and it was activation locked, and I was hoping there was some way to bypass it

I'd say that the Samsung Note 8 is an absolute beast but I'm completely biased. The iPhone X is definitely a great phone with some noticable flaws. I'm hoping that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is good because I plan on buying it. I still have an S7 and it is really nice. I've done the clear back glass mod on it and it looked absolutely dope but then broke because I don't use a case. Now I just have a plain blue back on it but that's besides the point.

The Pixel XL is incredible as well. The camera blew me away and the phone is fast and has everything you really need. It's also really easy to repair.

If it's an old phone, it could be vulnerable to an exploit if it's using an old version of software. I have people come in all the time with locked phones that they don't know the password to and then I have to tell them that there's nothing they can do about it.

guess im SOL, its a 6s running ios 11.1 i believe
