OFFICIAL DETROIT TIGERS @ CHOKELAND GAYS GAMETHREAD

WHY DO I KEEP HAVING TO MAKE THESE: edition

ZimZam vs Some Faggot (Hahn)

>vs Some Faggot (Hahn)
you say this but he'll probably pitch a one-hit complete game shutout

>bases loaded
>first inning
>avila at the plate
I doubt that

VEGAS is coming.

I thought the Whos were projected to go to Vegas.

Time for Zim to get shit on

How would that work?

since when does avila use the new mask?

Easy.

>move Whos to AL west
>move Astros back to NL, put em in the central
>move Brewers back to AL central

As long as he's hitting .350+ he can wear whatever he wants.

Is Hahn elite? Y/y?

couldn't agree more. he's always been a solid on base guy though hasn't he?

He walked the bases loaded in the first inning.

Just so ya know

Yes. He's got a good eye.

His biggest problem is that he spends half of every season punch drunk from concussions.

I don't care. He got Out of that inning.

2.53 ERA.

Based Adduci

Holy Seagulls

Sorry for shit talking fulmer yesterday bros, he is based

Are you a Hanshin Tigers fan, on a proxy, or an English teacher? You've been around a lot lately and I don't know why.

Fucking cerebral GOATmine

>adduci hits a rocket
>doesn't get a hit
>iglesias hits a slow chopper
>gets a hit
Can't make it up

BASED GOATMINE IS GOAT

...

that's it, time to trade kinsler. romine to lead off and play 2B for the rest of the year

Holy shit Castellanos just hit a breaking ball.

>trade kinsler
Kill yourself

Time to trade Iglesias is what you meant.

>52 pitches

I'm not here as often because of the time difference. Half Japanese half American uni student- American side's family is from Michigan. I'm on break now so I'm able to join you guys more frequently these days.

fsd needs a brad cam

oh c'mon now it's all in good fun

i remember when >we traded alvarez for romine i was furious because there was no pitching depth. turns out i was wrong about romine's ability i guess

The As are shit holy fuck

PLAYING A HIGH SCHOOL TEAM LOL

How do you feel about bees, our Chinese, sometimes, tripfag? Have you apologized to him for war crimes?

>chokeland in charge of not playing soccer with the baseball

For the record, Yomiuri Giants fan but I am an English teacher on the side so you weren't too off

Soon to be 35 years old

I'm fine with finding a starting spot for Romine but there's literally nothing that could persuade me to trade Ian Kinsler.

Kinsler is legitimately a HOF caliber second baseman.

He's still a 4-5 WAR player per year, and he gets paid shit.

oh nah for real my bad, i wasn't actually serious. kinsler is my favourite tiger. hopefully they can work out a reasonable extension but i wouldn't blame him for seeking more elsewhere

Five years, One-hundred and ten million dollars.

Bees: Have nothing against him, seems like a cool guy for all I know. Again, not here enough to feel strongly for/against anyone.

We have Chinese posters?

Tripfags: You do you boo

Warcrimes: If they're not included in the Japanese academic textbooks they never happened right??? At least that's what the kids here are taught.

Kinsler is borderline HOF, emphasis on the borderline

Zimzam's efforts against Trayvon are to be applauded but how he ever spun that into an 110 million dollar mlb contract I'm sure I don't know.

He isn't borderline based on his position though. Look at the average WAR for a HOF second baseman, he's pretty much there already.

Lol. Watching them deny war crimes is insane.

What do we do with Adduci when JD comes back? We can't send him down.

Release Collins?

I hate Iglesias so much.

We should have kept Eugenio Suarez. Traded him for Alfredo Simon.

I don't want him back either. Romine is fine.

Damn that pitch count on Hahn is crazy

How can one GOATmine be so GOAT?

Are you suggesting that 86 pitches over 3.1 innings is anything but excellent?

RIP Hahn's arm

Doesn't mean he'll get elected. He's played only 12 years.

Also, I don't know where you're getting your numbers, but BBRef sez 69.4 WAR is the average of the 20 HOFers; Kinsler is at 54.1, and Pedroia is not too far behind at 50.7. Utley is actually at 64, which to me is kind of surprising, and they are the four best second basemen (along with Cano) of this generation.

>Robinson Cano is now a top 10 second baseman of all-time according to the saber nerds
Trying to remove my Red Sox bias here. Does this seem weird to anyone else?

>3 and 2/3s
>100 pitches

>Not having a 100 pitch first inning.

Cano was a great position player and hitter

Very clutch in his prime

>Also, I don't know where you're getting your numbers,
There are 12 second baseman with a higher WAR than Kinsler in the HOF and 7 second baseman with a lower WAR than Kinsler in the HOF. Gerringer, Morgan, LaJoie, Hornsby, and Collins skew the numbers a little bit.

And as you've said, he's only played 12 years...and has a higher WAR than 7 of 19 second basemen in the HOF.

Best nepotism signing evar

>Kinsler is at 54.1, and Pedroia is not too far behind at 50.7. Utley is actually at 64, which to me is kind of surprising, and they are the four best second basemen (along with Cano) of this generation.
I would honestly put all of them in HOF. I might need one more big year from Pedroia but I'm sure it will happen at some point.

Whitaker needs to be on the HOF too
>75 WAR
>falls off the ballot after one year
Baseball writers are irredeemable fucking cancer.

Zim getting hard contact along with his dingers.. smelling another one soon, so score more

Zimmermann was pitching when the Tigers beat Seattle 19-9. Hitting Zimzam just makes Tigers bats go super saiyan.

Tell me about it. (Sox fan.) I just thought that, for the longest time, Pedroia was better. (Probably defensively if anything now, his bat is all but gone.)

Ah, now I see what you mean.

I agree, but I think Kinsler will be the odd man out in the end. All the others have X-factors that boost their cases:
>Cano – muh Yankee bias, best peak of all 4
>Pedroia – RotY, MVP, maybe the best defensively
>Utley – played on championship teams and was a team leader

keep in mind that SABR nerds were just young bucks when Whitaker got his turn at election.

Even though it was purely for show, I like what the Hall did with bringing back 5-6 players who had fallen off for possible re-election (Albert Belle and Mark McGwire are the two names I remember off the top of my head.) They ought to do it with some of the 80s guys too, like Trammell and Whitaker. (Trammell is a top 15 3B by WAR iirc.)

>tfw no more pudge
I miss you, you beautiful Mexican bastard, you.

NICK MY GUY

There's absolutely no sensible reason for both Whitaker and Trammel to be in the HOF, none. They pass both the SABR and "eye test."

>mfw nick hit two breaking balls in one game
Ragnarok is here, isn't it?

*to not be
Sry m8, been drinkin.

no problem pham, I agree.

A month or so I tried using a methodology of picking modern (live-ball era) players for the HOF using only WAR and JAWS. Anyone already elected was grandfathered in, but listed separately. The results were pretty surprising, Basically, for position players:
>top 10 in modern era [1920-present] by JAWS
>top 10 in modern era by WAR, if not already in JAWS list
Same thing with pitchers, except for 30 starters and 5 relievers. It turned out that some really obvious names missed the cut, while other worthy names (hypothetically) got justice served for them. I'll see if I can find the results and post them here if anyone cares.

This game is going to go 4+ hours, isn't it?

how is it only the 6th inning

lob

Post em

Khris Davis is a manlet.

here we go. one important caveat: if they played before 1920 but had the majority of their career after 1920 I included them in the lists

cont. part 3: pitchers

Ouch

We've got a game gentlemen.

What would you rather have?
9 championships, but none in recent history

OR

8 championships, 3 in this decade

desu I would take the Giants. "muh rings" is pointless if you aren't alive or old enough to care about any of them
I also hate the Giants but still

It looks like Cabrera got fucked for taking half of his ABs at third.

They're flim-flamming the Zimm-Zamm

I say relocate the Giants to Salt Lake City so my Dodgers have real competition.

part 3: pitchers

>Starters
Roger Clemens

>Relievers
Dennis Eckersley
Mariano Rivera
Hoyt Wilhelm
Rich Gossage
Bobby Shantz
Tom Gordon
("but where's Trevor Hoffman???" like 15th on the reliever list, whatever, he didn't make the cut here, what are you gonna do?)

And that's it. It's far from perfect (>Rick Reuschel, for example,) but it was a fun exercise for me because I have no life and am obsessed with stats.

>A's fan with a Muppet.
lmao what a weird city.

these aren't really a set-in-stone GOAT lists as much as "who does SABR underrate or overrate" lists. I'm frankly surprised Miggy was that high on the 1B list, it seems like he was under the radar for his early years in Detroit.

Just saw this post that caught me eye. Never thought kevin brown was that good of a pitcher.

also
>john smoltz being so beast that his numbers are great for being a reliever and SP

>11 lob
>2 lob for OAK
>1 run game
.....

Trammell ayyyyy

Trammel and Brown are both HOFrs.

What a relief indeed.

brown isnt in the HOF

Neither is Tram.

They should be.

Cmonnnn jwils

I hope you are either saying Tram should be hof or aren't a kitties fan

I'm saying both Trammel and Brown deserve to be in the HOF.

Yes. Quite. Indeed.

Time for ->bullpen

Buckle up

Lmao.

k

rage

I swear to god a Tiger's closer is going to give me a heart attack one of these days Jesus fucking christ.

gg

I'LL JUST LITERALLY HURL IT AT THE CENTER OF THE PLATE AT 90 MILES PER HOUR, WHAT COULD GO WRONG.
