mfw summertime

>tfw just bought an Idle Moments LP

So good.

Yo Grant Green is my shit. My buddy and I used to get baked and go through some of his records bsck in high school. Good times.

youtu.be/-iFwOBZhMZ8

why is everything so blue

i actually just discovered grant green with this little gem:

youtu.be/_RKw7-BY5eM

you clearly DO NOT and probably never will understand jazz. don't you ever talk shit about blue jazz covers ever again senpai

it's a e s t h e t i c

good thread so far boys. pic related and other late trane is easily the most god tier music ever though.

Solid album. I dunno about God-tier tho

One of my favorites. Still not God-tier

Correct

Best thread

I know the cover art is rubbish but this album is underrated as fuck.

why does nobody talk about this
praise for a martyr and mendacity are god-tier

...

...

...

I just acquired the centerpiece to my Grant Green shrine, a signed LP

That album bothers me. They jammed Peace on Earth in between Leo parts II & III? No clue what they were thinking

Listening to this for the first time

I finally get jazz Sup Forums. Thank you Dave :)

...

Underrated, I actually perfer it to the original

Archie Shepp - the Power of Juju
John Coltrane - Creation (amazing live recording from 64/65)
Alice Coltrane - Ptah, the el Daroud
Lee Morgan - the Sidewinder
Sun Ra - Lanquidity
Miles Davis - Aghartha
Charles Mingus - Roots and Blues
Art Blakey - Orgy in Rhythm
Sabu - Safari with Sabu
Stanley Clarke - s/t and Journey to Love
Don Cherry - Where is Brooklyn?
Ornette Coleman - Dancing in Your Head

...

My favorite version of my favorite standard

youtube.com/watch?v=R3Wd4XcBj7M

I will not deny that Time Out is a great album for maintaining an extremely relaxed feel while still experimenting, but after listening to a lot more jazz it kind of bores me. Blue Rondo a la Turk is great though

>Grant GREEN
>Album cover is blue
What did he mean by this?

>blue note records

...

>Grant GREEN
>BLUE Note records
What did he mean by this?

Pretty much Anthony by Charles Mingus (Mingus Big Band)

I'ven't heard That album, but I heard Bye Bye Blackbird which is okay. But I find the lack of love for Impressions on this board disturbing. The GOAT dolphy plays on it

>turquoise note records

>Grant GREEN
>TURQUOISE Note records
What did he mean by this?

>only ONE (1) post-1970 album in the whole thread

Who /xylophone/?

I can fix that.

youtube.com/watch?v=loKscILy_9I

The piano intro on this = HNN

No one is making good jazz anymo...
youtube.com/watch?v=2Zuy00Uyiy0

...

get this shit outta here Herbie, no one fucking cares about your master class bullshit you sell out

Someone sounds jealous...

The truth comes out Herbie doesn't it. Everyone know's this is your best albums were Crossings and Sextant and after Head Hunters it was down hill. Plus your Master toped you at your own game sun.

Bitch please I topped him in the Jazz Funk field 3 years before he even released that.

And I made my best song after Headhunters
youtube.com/watch?v=-_mSzscIhyg

cute, Herbie you gotta stop shilling your place in Jazz History. You're only fooling children with autism and women.

Why don't you ever talk about your true magnum opus ;)

What the hell did he mean by this?

"Be the change you want to see on Sup Forums" - Abraham Lincoln

youtube.com/watch?v=Q2NAHJYdaTk

Jaki Byard is so underrated.

yes milt has such a good groove

Actually Flood is the best album with Herbie as a leader

Thrust is v good as well
youtube.com/watch?v=knbmKDUYDXc

youtube.com/watch?v=Fhe6cW3ho_s
This was my into to Jaki Byard and it still remains one of my favorite solos from him.

This is my favorite performance of the tune, along with a phenominal version on Pre-Bird

tangentially related, but that same concert you posted has my favorite rendition of So Long Eric. Amazing solo by our collective boy, Dolphy.
youtube.com/watch?v=XKajqnE41fg

>Butterfly is Herbie's best
kys my man

Then what is?

That ain’t my opus aside from Good Question.

My opus was Fat Albert.

not that dude, but Dolphin Dance maybe? Butterfly is a lovely tune though.

Dolphin Dance and Butterfly are both great, but I would contend that Maiden Voyage is a landmark of the modal jazz style.

which book on coltrane is legit?

#blacklivesmatter when they actually mattered

im going to check this out and report back later if this thread is still going.

really, that's bullshit my nigga. You know your just salty that Miles beat your ass

This legit has some awesome stuff musically going on. Definitely worth the listen

>This legit has some awesome stuff musically going on
Fuck yeah, I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying that it's before nogs went full nigger.

Here's another good one in the same vein...

>You know your just salty that Miles beat your ass
Like he could beat the fucking streak I had in the 70s.

Great list, check out Journey in Satchidananda by Alice Coltrane if you haven't already.

I love albert he's got a lot of great records, the only one I'm not huge on is My Name is and Bells

But I love New Grass and Music Is The Healing Force. Patrician taste my dude

He stopped recording music in 1975, and took 5 years off. Also that had a double meaning, I referring to how he also used to beat his wife (and probably your ass) and how he's better than you. Your music is for plebs to get into Jazz, Kind of Blue is the only true Pleb album Miles dropped. Out side of that they won't get it. Plus top this album faggot

>Being lazy and not recording for 5 years had a double meaning
That's silly.

>I referring to how he also used to beat his wife
How is that a plus?
Unlike Miles I RESPECT women. I have the more likable personality and the better music.

As for topping that album I'll go easy and choose a Blue Note album so it's more similar sound-wise.

No beating your ass had a double meaning. learn to read nog

>Herbie respects women
Dude, are you a beta bru? The Virgin Herbie vs the Chad Miles

Do you have any recs similar to Agharta? Such a jar of jam and it gets no love

>he believes in the Beta-Alpha myth
So you're admitting Miles was a douche?
Fair enough, if you insist...

I like you.

You've probably heard these, but here are a few more for you...

>Herbie's outed for being a libtard

Your to much of a pussy to be a man, go back to your synthesizers while the real men make jazz and beat women

you sound like a fag lul

We didn't have to fight like this Miles.
There's nothing wrong with synthesizers and Love.
We could have been great if you were more loving. Why did you have to do it, Miles?

>Clifford Brown and Roach
>8:10
>can't even imagine getting that gud

I haven't delved into Cherry's discography that much, outside of with Coleman. I dig Alice's album and I heard the Vanguard album on a day I wasn't feeling it so I need to revisit it. I also am glad you suggested that Clifford Brown album because I haven't listened to jazz (I'm taking music history so I've been listening to a lot of classical and baroque music) and hip hop lately. I'll have to check it out though

Here are some suggestions if you haven't heard them, I was trying to think of albums that I've yet to see pop up on Sup Forums

Man get this softy shit 'otta here, I'm here to play notes that neva' been played before. Fuck love

Also you're opus is the score for a Rapists television show........ Funny how I haven't heard you come out and condem the Coz. Maybe you do have some Genius in you after all

Yea that album is spicy as hell. The version of Cherokee that they did together on Study In Brown is also really good:
youtube.com/watch?v=M283JFxesic

It's not my job to pass judgement on another man.
There is good and bad in everyone.
Even you, Miles.
It's not too late to get forgiveness and spread love.

(Also cmon nobody knew he was a rapist back then. I just made the kickass music)

>haven't heard the George Russell - Nice surprise/10
>Roland Kirk - he always sounds like "AAAAAHHHHHHHH" to me. Not a big fan.
>Andrew Hill - not familiar with this album, but it sounds like it's worth exploring.
>John Zorn - no.

You seem like you're probably hip to most of the old stuff, so here's a new album that I can't get enough of...
m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-dfbceq4x4

Herbie, should I bring up the rocks story. We all remember what you did to that little boy after the concert. Sorry I had to drop the truth bomb, but you left me no other choice.

Goddamn, you guys have the best tastes on Sup Forums. This is one of my all-time favorites

Fuck yeah, this board is always listening to same albums, nice to see some shorter

Wh..what rocks story?

That's fair its not for everyone. in fact that's my favorite record by Roland, outside of that it's more tracks for me I like. I know Bohren, but I've never listened to them. It sounds pretty chill though, and I love the electric pianos in the beginning. I'll definitely check the album out.

There are a few Jazz records from this year I enjoyed. I like Tony Allen's tribute to the Jazz Messengers the most, and his album was pretty good. and I like some of the tracks off the Preservation Hall Jazz Band album, just haven't heard the whole thing yet.

Also curious on what Sup Forums thinks of Yazz Ahmed
youtube.com/watch?v=H0rrQ5VAP5g

You know exactly what I'm talking about. back when you used to have a problem.... there was that boy..... you know exactly what I'm talking about. Bill gave you those snacks to share........ Admit it Herbie, admit it!

>Yazz Ahmed
Pretty shocked it's a female. It's like a maximalist version of Tortoise.

Yeah you're just trying to character defame me.
Nice try, though.

jazz albums that are criminally underheard:
invitation - siegfried kessler trio
innovation - amalgam
morrocan roll - brand x
dedicated to you but you werent listening - keith tippet group
israel suite - rupture
also why do people like miles davis so much? albums like bitches brew and get up with it are awful

you were addicted to smack bru, google it if you forgot

Went through Miles' discography and found this gem. What a tour de force of pure energy.

It was Crack, you idiot.
