What did they mean by this?

What did they mean by this?

wtf I hate fight club now????

The first thing Vice has ever gotten right

Vice writers hate Reddit for the opposite reasons we do. Places like tumblr and Jezebel and whatnot think Reddit is the misogynistic Satan of the Internet. It's hilarious.

WTF i love Vice now!

Yeah it's overrated but to say it sucked is too harsh. It's a good flick, that's it.

also, the reddit of movies would be capeshit, star wars, 2001 etc

it was good, but it wasn't necessary kino

I grew out of my love of Fight Club like 15 years ago, but I still think that from a technical point of view it's immaculately crafted. Based Fincher.

>Places like tumblr and Jezebel and whatnot think Reddit is the misogynistic Satan of the Internet.

Holy fuck. I've never been to those sites before but they'd have to be the most liberal hugboxes ever.

By now, after all this election shit and how big Sup Forums has gotten, everyone who visits this site must be seen by proxy Nazi sympathizers. This is insanity. All because of memes.

>Vice

>it's the reddit of movies

Not a bad movie at all, just the edgy and slightly hypocritical "dude fuck capitalism lmao" controlling idea hasn't held up very well

Still a nice movie, pretty sure SJWs only hate it because it's so manly

You can criticize the film itself but don't tell me people would disagree that Fight Club isn't a touchstone about the Western cultural climate of the late 20th century.

>fight club sucks
When will this meme die.. Just because something is easily digestible and popular doesn't mean it's bad.

>thinking the film is about "anti-capitalism"

It must be nice for you, having an IQ in the double-digits. Everything is so marvellously simple.

>slightly hypocritical "dude fuck capitalism lmao"
Why is it hypocritical? Tyler Durden literally lives his beliefs.

It's not a bad film, but I think they kind of shit the bed with the ending they decided on. I understand why they went with it given how it was sold, but it was more demonstrative of the points they were trying to "make" rather than attempting to subvert them.

disregarding the message it's a pretty comfy movie, it's shot well, likable characters, dope atmosphere, nice dialogues, nice soundtracks.

If you're a capitalist cuck you will hate this movie. If you bought the jewish lie that capitalism is inherently good and that one day you will be rich if only you work hard enough you will hate this movie.

Enjoy drinking the kike koolaid bitches.

>dude fuck capitalism lmao
literally what the fuck, do you mean materialism?

I still love the score. Haters, stay mad.

Allowing women to become journalists was a mistake. They should stick to topics they're good at, like make-up or celebrity gossip.

Of course they hate it, the male ego theme and exploration of masculinity through the film becomes more and more relevant every year.

Websites or publications like Vice are no different than the mainstream media in attempting to subvert, denigrate and weaken masculinity in every shape or form they can. It's no surprise a film that is proven right with each year that passes is derided and looked down upon by morally corrupt 21st century shysters like Vice.

Anti-consumerism, materialism. Both considered major tenant of modern capitalism.

The characters do, but the movie doesn't.

Yes

>characters are mad about the big guys getting everything
>starts a small commune in which everyone is equal and gets what they get in accordance with how much work they do
>the proletariat working men work together to make the big guy's lives terrible
>movie culminates with the destruction of credit card company buildings, one of the biggest symbols of bourgeois control

You can't honetly think the movie's not about a communist uprising

"it's the Reddit of movies"

well they got one thing right

You really into that homoerotic fantasy huh?
Fuck you, idiot.

Nothing more than a gay love story you self-involved mongoloid

>there are people that STILL don't know that Fight Club was a satire

So guys, when did you grow out of Stanley Kubrick?

The movie definitely celebrates the male form (something rare in media now-a-days, also why SJWs hate it) but I wouldn't call it overtly homosrxual

so reddit is the non offensive centrist that tries to cater to everyone and is hated for it.

>You can't honetly think the movie's not about a communist uprising

Christ you're a retard. Palahniuk and Fincher were satirising those that think that you can, or should, drop commercialism and capitalism. You don't see the humour in casting Brad fucking Pitt, the ultimate celebrity, as Tyler? LMAO.

The word is "tenet" you fucking mong
And fight club is a critique of the -culture- surrounding (some) capitalist societies (and not others,) not capitalism itself

So what you're saying is that i'm not wrong, and that the movie is hypocritically communist. Thanks.

>Heloween smileys
wtf. only americans got that?

I really liked Fight Club when I was 14.
When I was 19 I thought it was the dumbest shit ever.
How does somebody in their 30's write something as edgy as this and why would someone in their 30's direct something like this?

Retard. Fight Club was a satire. Tyler is a representation of hypocrisy of ideology, of how dangerous they become when put into practice. He claims to rally against dehumanisation but as his cult grows we see that's exactly what he's doing to his followers. He corrupts nihilism, his words are shown to be superficial as he bends his idiot followers to his will. Tyler shaves their heads, takes away their names, puts them in uniforms and berates them over a megaphone. He becomes an unofficial authoritarian government and a symbol of fascism. They carry out terrorist attacks for him. The film is a satire. Anyone that doesn't see the contradictions and faults in Tyler's mandate is retarded. Or young. And of course Fight Club is very popular with teenagers that like it for the wrong reasons.

Every guy I've met that worships Kubrick or Lucas have been humongous queers so I never bothered getting into them

But they're right...

If you think it's the dumbest shit ever then you're no better than the 15 year olds that take it at face value, because that's exactly what you're doing.

Did you really think Fincher was playing it straight?

it's like people ignore the final part of the movie where the main character goes against and literally kills the part of himself that believes in this trash.

>shilling this even here

>lol satire

You sound like that Leafyishere asshole on YouTube

Satire or not, ask most people who really loved the movie and they'll say their favorite parts are the ones that shit on capitalism

I'm disregarding authorial intent here. "The author is dead." I'm talking about how most people interpreted it.

unironically one of the greatest movies and stories ever made

only a nu-male would dislike fight club

No one gives a fuck about how mongoloids interpreted it. The movie is clear as day to anyone who can think about its elements and parse out that it wasn't about shitting on capitalism.

over thinking it. did you read the book, or any of his books?
there's no allegory.

Most people are idiots. So are you apparently.

Fight Club is hardly a grand indecipherable work of art, its staggering how many people don't understand it and don't comprehend that you're not supposed to take the rhetoric of a violent, crazy schizophrenic at face value.

It should have been satire, but didn't do a great job of it which is why so many people think it was serious.

M8, both Palahniuk and Fincher take every opportunity to explain to people that Fight Club, both the book and movie, is satirical.

Really, go watch it again. A bunch of guys standing around in a basement itching for a war so they'd have some "masculine identity" is hilarious to Chuck Palahniuk.

you're an idiot. it's both.
it satires both sides. theres no underlying ideology.

it's 100% anti-consumerism among other things including fascism

>is hilarious to Chuck Palahniuk.
citation?
>Palahniuk and Fincher take every opportunity to explain to people that Fight Club, both the book and movie, is satirical.
example?

none of his books are allegorical. they are just stories of extremes and none of them are even related politically.

Has boogeyman posting become mainstream now? Oh no, I am fucking sick of hearing about this site. Why do all people care about reddit so much?

It's just a story about a guy with an existential/identity crisis who goes to the extremes to find some sense.
And it ultimately shits on both sides, first by showing how world turns people into drones and then by showing Tyler turn those who wanted out into his own drones.

Beautiful post. You couldn't have fedora'd harder than that, my virginal friend.

>Fight Club is the stupidest shit ever

It really isn't, and if you think that you just fail to realize the point of the movie. It's honestly like complaining that Goodfellas makes you want to be a gangster.

>existential/identity crisis
so that's what you call mental illnesses like schizophrenia or severe psychosis today. He was fighting a fight against his worst enemy, himself, and had the courage to shoot himself in the end instead of his enemy. It's not about finding yourself ,it's about killing what makes you sick.

The first half of Goodfellas made me want to be a gangster. The second half corrected that

I'm just surprised that people take this movie so seriously either way.

I understand why young kids like Fight Club, and it's not like Tyler is wrong about what he initially says. That's why most of us when we're 14 eat his shit up.

When you're in such an insular place as school, some kids want someone to go "none of this matters", because quite honestly it doesn't. So I don't think kids are wrong for getting that out of the movie at first, as long as they grow older, move out of the insular environment of school, and realize life, and the movie, is more complicated than just "corporations bad, nihilism good".

>I am someone that still thinks fight club is an amazing movie despite the hate it gets because it's too popular
am i alone

>but they're right xd

they don't see reddit as you guys do

>waa this movie is bad because ppl don't get it's satire

He got sick because his life was shit.

You just put Kubrick and Lucas in the same meta-category. I hope you get bowel cancer. Today. Jack.

>“‘Fight Club’ is about the most dangerous thing in the world — ideas.”
>"It’s a satire. Many don’t get that."
--Fincher

The last two sentences of that are spot on.

I SEEN FIGHT CLUB, ABOUT 28 TIMESSSSSSSS

>it satirizes [thing I don't agree with], you're retards for taking it seriously hehehe

It satirizes both the edgy nihilism AND the corporate-dick-licking cuckoldry, materialism, metrosexualism, "ikea nesting instinct" and so on. The people who write these articles ignore the latter because it usually applies to them.

>and it's not like Tyler is wrong about what he initially says.

Yes he is. Shit like "what you own starts owning you" is just an empty platitude. He spends the first half of the movie moaning about nothing. He had a cushy 90s life with no real problems so decided to invent some. He complains about a lack of meaning or identity which is just more whining. Past generations of young men that died in so many pointless wars would swap their bloody, violent "purposeful" lives for the nice safe one Tyler had and couldn't stop complaining about. Fight Club was a perfect satire of pre-9/11 comfortableness in America.

So then he spawns an imaginary friend that looks like Brad Pitt - one of the greatest beneficiaries of consumerism and capitalism in America at the time - who tells him that you don't need any of that (which is hilarious in itself).

Then all these other guys are told that they too can drop their boring, comfortable lives and reclaim their identity (!) by going to live in an abandoned house with no electricity, have their heads shaved, have their names taken away, perform banal work during the day, get berated by a schitzo over a megaphone and risk your life at night doing pointless attacks for him so you can "stick it to the man".

It's satire from start to finish.

You're right though that children can be excused for taking it at face value.

Love how reddit has become what Sup Forums used to be, the unwashed underbelly of the internet filled with manchildren, social rejects, and the like. Now Sup Forums is the new reddit, a quirky site that tumblrinas can feel special about over twitter and tumblr. When you mention reddit nowadays to some normie they'll think of trolls, pedophiles, relentless hatred and losers. Sup Forums is now seen as a place for memes, funny pictures/stories, hip culture. It's really funny how these two internet cultures completely switched around over time. Fuck this place, and fuck all of you.

>Shit like "what you own starts owning you" is just an empty platitude. He spends the first half of the movie moaning about nothing. He had a cushy 90s life with no real problems so decided to invent some.

You say that like no one actually thinks that way about life.

>>it's the reddit of movies
vice doesnt get to say this

they think reddit is like this place

>don't tell me people would disagree that Fight Club isn't
why would you write this man
cmon

Of course they think that way, but they think that because most of this generation have never faced real hardship so instead create some or exaggerate the little problems around them to appease their persecution complex. There has never been a better time than now to be a human being in the western world. None of us will face the draft. There are no incurable diseases sweeping across regions. Palahniuk was just ahead of his time in taking the piss out of ideological SJWs that think they face real hardship because "Like, capitalism is bad, man. Sent from my iPhone."

if you have nothing to say dont post

What universe do you live in? I admit Sup Forums has changed but not in the way you say. Sup Forums is still the trolls, pedos, and weeaboos.

Another jackdurden.com thread? Jesus people...

A photo of your wife's arse?

I dunno, man. Different user here. I've noticed the same thing.

Maybe Sup Forums has kinda gone so far into bad that it's become okay, cute in it's reliably offensiveness. Reddit is much more open to being the locus of SJW hate for TRP alone. Compare the seething hate for "Red Pillers" to the shrugs at 99% of Sup Forums shenanigans. Even the internet-savvy SJWs can have a chuckle at Pepe.

Reddit is under a different microscope, if only for the duration of posts (how many people even know about the myriad Sup Forums archive sites, most of which are a torture test for your adblocker?).

I think a lot of people perceive post-moot Sup Forums as a lame duck president who is months away from exiting the public eye completely of course they're right.

My biggest rebuttal is GamerGate. Sup Forums took the "we need clarity in gaming journalism" while reddit took "Don't hate women".
I won't speak for reddit but from the screenshots I see they are pretty... docile. Sure, some troll and fight but I think the power of censors or downvoting or marking it as spam hinders it.

>none of his books are allegorical.

>satire must be allegorical
>I don't understand what these words mean

>"dude fuck capitalism lmao" controlling idea hasn't held up very well
First of all, that's not what the movie's about

Second of all, mr robot lifted that entire portion of the plot into the first season and was critically successful

So you're pretty much a moron tbqh famiglia

can you fuck off from this board?

>>waa this movie is bad because ppl don't get it's satire
Poststructuralism, everybody.

>fight club is an anticapitalist work
>i don't need to be the least bit familiar with anticapitalist theory to argue this

The film is about many things, it's an artistic work. It has satire, but makes some salient points through the lens of a mentally ill dude. So you take it with a pinch of salt when he blows up bank buildings at the end

Great blog post on the very reputable Vice news website. Is it that easy to be a journalist now? I mean fuck, I want to write up some bullshit that irks me for small reasons too and get paid.

Journalist when it comes to influence, blogger when it comes to accountability.

>mfw guys at your high school started a fight club at lunch

>Vice's liberal opinion on something

WTF I like Fight Club again??
