>really makes you think

This is a Daria meme right?

Was he /our guy/ ?

I hate this show.

...

>millenials

this

>new catchall term now that hipster is dying

They're two different words with two different meanings

Hipsters love Daria.

Millennials are like anti-hipsters.. they hate everything older than them. They say stupid shit like, "black and white movies are boring." completely without irony.

daria isn't older than me and it sucks

you're retarded lad, the prime demographic for Daria are millenials.
Millenials start from people born in 82.

>middle aged

i like daria

Rick & Morty

I really don't get it.

It's okay at the start but around 3 seasons is enough.

You had to have grown up in the 90s/early 2000s I guess.

If it was made today I'd probably hate it. And Daria was kind of a bitch. But as a teenager I enjoyed the show, and maybe because of that, I when I rewatched it a few years ago I still thought it held up.

Its way better than anything MTV has now, I can say that.

You either don't know what a Hipster is or a Millennial is, or both.
Most hipsters are Millennials.
And most older Millennials grew up with Daria.

Protip: Gen Y, the thing the were called all our lives, got turned into "Millennial" about 5 years ago. Although most of us don't identify with it, and that people born pre and post 1995 are just way different due to the cultural changing of the internet.

It satirises high school and corporate culture. It appeals to people who want to see high school and corporate culture satirised.

Its a social commentary of a specific group at very specific point in time if one or both of those things don't apply to you I fail to see how it could appeal.

Also the 90s on the whole as a result of being not that long ago and relatively shit has seen little cultural exploration I would expect that to expand moving forward.

no one cares

yeah, but when people use "millennials" as a pejorative they're not specifically referring to the definition some jackass added to fucking wikipedia like 2 years ago and that no one actually agreed on. they're talking about a specific type of jackass kid who was born or at least grew up in the new millenium.

It used to be Gen X, Gen Y, and the new Gen Z.. and Z used to mean Millennials.. and none of those terms had their years defined.. but then faggots everyone started lumping Y and Z together when they're nothing alike at all.

no one cares

see x = grunge fucks
y = hipster fucks
z = millennial fucks

there is no fucking lord high emperor of naming fucking generations, and i refuse to be lumped in with a those faggots... Im a hipster faggot and im comparatively proud of it.
Actually I get along with stupid Gen Xers even better.. not that I'm too proud of that.

no one cares if no one cares, faggot.

Gen Y are Millennials, you imbecile.

dude sarcasm and apathy lmao

and her little brother moose
1 in a million

Gen Z are millennials, you imbecile.

>tfw no Jane gf

Basically everything on TV nowadays t b aich.

Generation X were the jaded young adults of the nineties right? That would mean their kids wee born around that time so unless it skips a letter it should be Y

>Game of Thrones
>Walking Dead
>Westworld
>Stranger Things

Basically anything that isn't Pawn Stars.

>hipster

See that's exactly it. To millennials Daria and Jane are hipsters, rebellious and accepted in their own way.

But actually in the time the show is set there were no such thing as hipsters. They were just losers surrounded by normies.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennials
dictionary.com/browse/millennial?s=t
I don't know who is in charge of naming this shit, but I grantee its not your dumb ass.

has any channel shown reruns in the past 10 years?

except the guys who coined millennial defined it as starting in the 80s, and everyone who has used the term millennial seriously in research has used it to mean someone born in the 80's

you've just been using the word wrong the entire time and haven't even realized it, KEK

they play it on that MTV classic channel

Not him but if that's true then I rarely ever see anyone using the term correctly. Like this guy, . If millennials were born in the 80s, then they would have grown up watching and being the same age as Daria, right? So wtf is he talking about?

The vast majority of people I see using the word are talking about "dumb kids".. usually ones born after the late 90s who don't like or understand older shit because they grew up with computers and shit.

A bunch of faggots writing books might say otherwise, but I don't think the rest of the world is paying any attention to them.

I was too, because no one told me I was a millennial, I grew up with everyone saying gen Y, its what I identify as.
I used to use the world millennial for people born around 2000 and after, but once I found out I was using the word incorrectly I stopped. Because only a retard would keep going.
Why willingly use a word incorrectly? So you can have a bunch of people correct you and show its actual definition?

Guess what snowflake, your personal feelings don't trump established definitions.

tfw not cool enough to hang out with daria

>There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends
>birth-year overlap between definitions of Generation X and Millennials

wow it's fucking nothing

on the internet, millennial = someone who grew up with the tech revolution i.e. "phones had cords?" "how did you do school work if you didn't bring a laptop to class?" "internet access has always and forever been as common and universal as running water and electricity"

There is no established definition.
Words, especially socially contextual words like this, are literally defined by how they are used by the majority. Sociology is not a hard science. If you try to build a house on it it will fall apart and sink as the foundation constantly changes.

It does not matter how many people write "established definitions" for words down in books, those established definitions still change over time based on how the majority uses them. This happens constantly, and only a fool would think he could take a firm grasp at rapidly evolving words like this.

Welcome to the ever-changing landscape of human reality, autizmotron. I hope all this unpredictable free will doesn't short out your circuits.

>Words, especially socially contextual words like this, are literally defined by how they are used by the majority

tell that to the french

While it is true that definitions are not static, the majority of people who use the word understand that it refers to people who were born in the 80s and 90s.

??? I don't get the reference.

Pretty sure "Gen X/Gen Y/Millennial" shit is only confined to the US.

Other countries have their own bullshit generational names.

If you grew up in the 90s, you would understand it.

If you did and you still don't get it, then you're just a stubborn asshole.

There is no precise date for any generation. Because this isn't a hard science.

You can say you are generation X or a Millennial, if you were born in the early 80s, but if you were born after 1985, you are a Millennial.

Seriously how retarded are you? On a scale of 1 to 10?

>tfw no latin Jane gf

no they dont
the majority use it exactly how said.

>the majority of people who use the word understand that it refers to people who were born in the 80s and 90s.
prove it

just commenting that french is prescriptive not descriptive.

they have a body that determines which words are french and what they mean

unlike english where use determines meaning

>i make up shit and then get mad and call people stupid for not agreeing with me

>there is no precise date for any generation
>but the precise date for millenials is

fascinating, tell me more

The French have a government agency specifically dedicated to preserving the meaning of individual words in their language.

so the french are literally robots?

>tfw no daria gf

>There is no established definition.
If Wikipedia and dictionary.com both agree on a definition, I would argue its established.
This isn't some weird esoteric word only a few people use and is hard to define.

Yes meanings of words change, but until that change is accepted, you are a stubborn retard if you choose to use the word incorrectly.

no the french are assholes

do robots have assholes? NO!

the OED is about as definitive as you can get with english

i wouldn't bother with dictionary.com and wiki isn't a primary source

All you need to understand is Quinn is best Daria.

Are you me?

Yeah, I made up the definition.

I never gave a precise start date.
I really cannot understand what part of this is hard for you.
There is overlap between each generation, Baby Boomers and Gen X have overlap, but then you reach a point where one cannot claim to be a Baby Boomer.

Gen X does not go past the mid 80s.

Are you guys said that you are generation X or what?
Seriously, help me to understand your retarded logic.

That scene where she dresses up as daria. Diamond every time

Who is most people? The idiots in your Facebook feed? Sociologists have agreed on its meaning. People outside of the millennial generation understand this.

pretty sure the whole argument can be summed down to:

>I'm not a millennial, you are!
>Nuh-uh! you are!

...

What's shit is that I was born in the 80s and still understand the distinction. As much as I hate the youth culture of today,I still know I am a millennial. Can't change the date I was born. Can't change the definition of the word.

Except one person can prove its actual definition, and the other one is "well me and my friends don't use it that way"

The problem is most articles online take a negative view towards Millennials, and most Millinnials (many of whom grew up being called Gen Y) read it and agree, assuming that the they were insulting people younger than them, and not their hipster, SJW, lazy, self-entitled peers.

...

the division isn't a line, its a cline, and i can rhyme

>a continuum with an infinite number of gradations from one extreme to the other

the division is easier to see at one extreme or the other instead of where they meet. in the middle things are muddled as you move from one to the other

first you say "the majority of people" agree with you, but you can't prove that claim.

and now you are throwing out "sociologists" to back you up as if they were responsible for defining society, instead of studying it.

honestly, I'm not at all convinced.

Millenials are anything born after iirc 1985.

Moose was her little sister

...

>that season 5 Quinn character development

This is true, but the problem is Millennials born in the 80s don't see themselves as Gen X, they see themselves as something different, probably Gen Y.
Frankly I do think people born in 1985 - 1995 are different than people born after, because someone in 1995 doesn't really remember a time without the internet.

However, I understand that my personal definition doesn't trump people who study this sort of stuff.

gross
the superior swap

quinn was just as intelligent as daria with a slightly better attitude

You cant prove the definition because there is no set definition.
You might as well be arguing about the definition of some stupid SJW buzzword and using a bunch of tumblr blogs and feminist trash rags as proof that its "established".

Daria Restoration Project torrents have the DVD video with original audio.

>Millennials born in the 80s don't see themselves as Gen X

ehh 83 myself and i easily identified with that group.

my brothers 87,90 never. they also understand technology completely differently.

Its strange the difference a few years can make

shouldn't she have darker skin

You don't have to be convinced, society and academia exist in their current state regardlessof your inability to accept them. Sociologist don't create society obviously, but they define the trends with which we describe it.

>However, I understand that my personal definition doesn't trump people who study this sort of stuff.

thats stupid. you said yourself they STUDY it.. they dont create it.

If I study something and am too stupid to see an obvious distinction between two separate things, the fact that I write a stupid book about my incorrect observations and have a bunch of other idiots pile on top of my stupid bullshit for more grant money and clickbait fame in tabloids doesnt suddenly change fucking reality.

This isn't some internet slang.

...

racist

I just don't get it

Scrubs. Seriously, how does anyone like that show?

pretty much anything thats on tv now

the ending they wouldn't give us

> uh huh huh, more like diarrhea uh huh huh

>...they define the trends with which we describe it.

no. they dont.
they do for you and people like you because you buy into them.
if more people buy into them than dont, then obviously they will have an effect. But at this point in time, on this subject, no.. they have not. Far too many people use the term millennial a different way than they have defined it.

duchovny makes a handsome women, that is the most important thing to get

fags like it

you should probably look at those links.

none of their definitions are set and they all use vague language. the wiki link even flat out admits their is no set definition.

She's right, you know.

I tried watching it, and they do the same lulrandumb bullshit cuts that family guy does. God damn that got annoying fast. It wouldn't be a half bad show if they just cut those sequences out.

I meant people born after 1985. I was born in 1986 and no one around me says they are Gen X.
My sister was born in 1982 and she's Gen X.

My point was more the people denying being a Millennial are not usually saying they are Gen X, just that they are not a Millennial.

>TFW dated a girl that was like a cross between Daria, Diane Nguyen and Wednesday Addams. It was suffering.

Trust me user, you don't want this in your life. Currently with a cutie that's best described as 75% Knives Chau and 25% Adrian Pennino. Feels good man.
