Tbh if Alexis goes we need a new player to score and create goals. If we keep the new formation that player should be an attacking mid.
James fits the bill. However the amount he would cost in both transfer and wages are probably not worth it as I'm sure there are other midfielders who are cheaper and just as effective.
I'd prefer barkley as he's English, knows the league and not too shite.
However I wouldn't be upset if we did get him.

don't see how he is considered a possible Alexis replacement.. He is not good at dribbling, not very fast, not much of a goal scorer. If anything he would be an Özil replacement, but imo, will cost more (transfer & wages), is not as good at passing and vision and will struggle as much with physicality as Özil did initially (if not more).
Also genuine question, if Manure win EL, Arse come with and Manure 6th (all seems likely since, without Slippy G, Liverpoo will likely hang on to 4th), does Arse miss out on CL qualifiers and go straight to Europa League?

I agree with you on James, but I think you're slightly wrong about vision.
answering my own question:

- England has two teams in the Europa League - fifth or sixth (to the group stage), plus Everton
- Everton are guaranteed to be in the third qualifying round. Man United moving up to the Champions League would not elevate them to the Europa League group stage
Guess my question was wrong from the start. England only gets 3 places plus 4th into CL qualifiers, so 5th gets EL anyway and since Juve and Real already into group stages from league position, EL winner gets group stage place rather than CL qualifier.
Haven't actually seen James play recently, so shouldn't really comment, but at the world cup when he got so hyped he didn't impress me that much. His high valuations after that seemed to be mostly due to that one goal and being a good looking S. American guy (increases fan base).
I see him going to Juve actually.
fair enough, he did garner a lot of hype because of that goal but he was impressive at Porto. I think he'd do well if he left Madrid and returned to playing on the wing instead; Juve would be a fine place for him too.

Injured for most of the season. By the time he recovered, we were out of the Champions League and EFL Cup so there wasn't a need to rotate players. And Koscielny, Mustafi, Gabriel and Holding must have been doing better than him in training so they got put in the starting XI and on the bench while Per was left off the teamsheet.
