Pillar and Smoak stole everyone's abilities to bat and the bullpen sucks too. There's been tons of games this season where the starter goes 6+ innings giving 2 or 3 runs at most but the offense gives no support at all and the bullpen blows it.

All of their big bats last year are gone, injured or old. Pitching also has been off and on, but mainly not enough runs. They've been doing a lot better recently however.

Yes, it was an amazing team. but also depressing because as soon as it was over, everything broke up. There was no consistency. There hasn't been consistency at any point since the late 90's.
2001 is the highest high and the lowest low for the M's. Because it marks the beginning of this 15+ year playoff drought. Plus, they couldn't even get to the world series even though they won 116 games.
