I think part of it is the amateurish appeal. If it wasn't a girl-next-door wearing apple earbuds recording this on her phone, I think people would be less forgiving of the absolutely SHIT music. People like to think they could do the same (and they probably could).
And yes, if it was a fat girl, the only views would be her tumblr followers. Even if she made a song ten thousand times better. Though a fatty would be smart enough not to show her face.

It's a genuinely good song. It could even be reworked to be a truly God-tier pop song. But, unfortunately, it's her best song. Everything else is pretty weak in comparison.

I opened the video in a background tab and only listened to the music, never saw the girl. I could barely call it a song. Even the cummies song is better.
