This is better than Spiderland
This is better than Spiderland
Posting actual music discussion on Sup Forums? Fuck outta here. It was pretty good but I'll have to give it another listen before I can really decide.
As a fan of the Louisville scene, all I have to say is...
*leans into mic*
No.
>X is better than Y
>actual music discussion
i just don't get this album am i not autistic enough
if you can appreciate Spiderland, you can at least sort of get what Rodan is doing
I think athmosphere wise Spiderland has no rival among the 90's alternative rock bands, and Good Morning Captain is one of the best pieces of contemporary music
I listened to that specific Rodan album like 5 years ago, and while I thought it was good, it just didn't stick with me for too long. It's a lot more powerful, but the drumming in Spiderland seems just overall better to me.
I’ve never listened to it, but probably not.
i unironically agree
it's not
bedhead's entire discography is tho
I need to listen to it again but Rusty is actually seriously really good iirc
Spiderland is in a league of its own though
i can't believe you made a trip to post opinions as retarded as this
It's an excellent record, but Spiderland definitely comes out on top. The songwriting is stronger, the guitar leads are better, it's more patient and less predictable, and the drumming is practically unmatched. The only rock drummers that can really hold a candle to Britt Walford that have been in bands that make great music that I know of are Brendan Canty, Bill Bruford, Leaves Turn Inside You era Sara Lund, maybe Carla Azar, and just a handful more.
name a single aspect in which spiderland is superior to Transaction de Novo
I don't want to shit on you, because Transaction de Novo and Beheaded are both incredible albums that need recognition and I can totally see why you'd put either above Spiderland, but I think Spiderland is better, just because there's some more variety in it. Slint and Bedhead do some things similar, and other things differently. I think it would be fair to compare For Dinner and The Present (The Present is probably one of the greatest songs ever written, For Dinner is just really great), but Bedhead doesn't make music like Good Morning, Captain, or Breadcrumb Trail.
They're not trying to do the same thing, so it's hard to compare them. Take the drumming. Bedhead's drumming is great, but it is front and center minimalist. Very skilled and unique, definitely better than most drummers, but Jesus Christ, Walford is in a league of his own. That's how I feel about the bands themselves, too. Transaction Details Novo and Spiderland are damn near identical production-wise, so you can't even compare them there. I think the vocals on Spiderland are much stronger than those on Transaction de Novo, and here both bands are similar in that they are more focused on presentation than technical ability. There lyrics share idiosyncrasies also, but I don't think things like these are enough to warrant direct comparison when the songwriting is so different.
Also, I'm not the person you responded to. But I'd like to know why you think what you do.

always triggers me
i disagree. It is an amazing album, but it would be nothing without the influence spiderland had on it.
sorry lad, no, its not better than spiderland.
Neat post, man. I should relisten to Bedhead.
trouble with comparing anything to spiderland, is that is was made so long before anything else that is even remotely similar.
it is kind of a trump card when you compare it something and then you say "it was released in 1991".
all you can think is oh ok nvm.
I agree with you OP, but there are too many people that want to cling to Spiderland because of their image
Maybe unconsciously, but any possible truth of what you’re suggesting, if true, is also at least coexisting with the fact that people like what they like and generally do whatever they can to keep liking what they like
