This film sucks so fucking much.
Steals ideas from 1984 and Matrix and can't put them together if it's Life depended on it

Explain.

BAIT

one of the children is playing with him at the end

I must have missed that. But that still begs the question of where the dog was in the meantime. Did he just keep it in his trunk for a few weeks?

Ah yes, the typical Sup Forums post. "It sucks and I won't tell you why and if you question me I'll just act as if you're insane for doing so."

Seriously, Equilibrium was so good that I was legitimately shocked when I looked up the reviews afterwards and found out that the critics had eviscerated it. It just felt like the kind of movie that would have instantly gotten respect for what it did, but I guess not. I was similarly surprised by Watchmen being the same way (yeah, I often try to avoid looking up review averages until afterwards because I don't want them to affect my experience).

Thankfully Equilibrium is one of those movies that people looked back on and realized "Holy shit, this is actually really good." I think in the end you can never really trust opinions on something that just came out. Lots of great writers were seen as mediocre until years after their death. It makes me wonder, does anyone in this world have a fucking clue what they're talking about?

But I did say why

I watched with the commentary and was surprised how they were able to hide the fact the movie had no money.

It was painfully mediocre which made it boring. Really regret watching this pile of garbage.

Forget the Matrix

No, you namedropped a couple things and didn't say what ideas were allegedly stolen.

>meaningless buzzwords: the post

Itt: OP is mad and samefagging

You think I am going to make a post with 3 paragraphs about some details or shit that will get deleted anytime soon anyway? This movie wasnt good, for once I agree with reviewers, it was painful to watch with badly executed fight scenes, dull plot and overall stupid execution.

By all means, don't use a forum for discussing. Just use it for shitposting and memes. I'm being sarcastic. Your "it's bad because I say it's bad" attitude is toxic.

>its good because i say its good"
same thing

>everyone who doesn't agree with me is mad and samefagging
You're being a child.

It boasts high energy combat scenes as well as a much deeper literary meaning. Admist all the action is a statement against the dangers of a society structured around “law by the letter”, as John says, instead of by its spirit. And it’s this letter-of-the-law thinking that leads to unquestioned allegiance to the state, better known as fascism.

Many critics chided Equilibrium for borrowing too heavily from George Orwell. But there’s nothing inherently wrong in reusing certain themes in literature and movies. After all, the concept of a pervasive government intruding into the lives of individuals predates Orwell, who was actually inspired by many facets of life in the Soviet Union at the time. So to say the film is bad because it echoes Orwell is to say it’s bad because it reflects actual history.

Is this the most powerful scene in cinema?

Regarding fight scenes, I was just looking up something and found this quote from the director:

"When I was growing up and fantasizing about whipping ass, which is what boys do, and maybe even adults, like me, I can promise you that in my fantasy you didn't get a few good licks in. I kicked your ass in a commanding fashion, with compelling punctuation. And so I'm simply translating my fantasies onto celluloid here and that's what you're getting.

I always find it annoying when in a climatic fight in a film, when the bad guy is beating up the good guy because I find it boring. There's no suspense there. We all know that eventually the fight is going to turn and the good guy is going to win, so in my conception lets get on with it. It's a fantasy after all and since it's a fantasy lets not make our dream girl gorgeous except she's got a wooden leg. So when Christian is back to his cold-blooded killer self, Taye doesn't stand a chance and by the way neither does anyone else."

I think this is awesome. It's exactly how I feel. It's fine if the good guy struggles, but it's so boring when he makes it to the end where he should be a total badass and there's that part where the bad guy is just kicking him around for a while. Equilibrium doesn't have that at all. It's 100% fuck you, I'm kicking ALL your asses with style.

And here's the scene he's talking about, for anyone who wants to refresh their memory or who doesn't care about spoilers and just wants to see Christian Bale kicking people's shit in.

Bad, but not entertaining bad.
Only part worth a chuckle was how hammy the part with the dog licking him was.

Why the hell are people calling it bad? You realize nobody's forcing you to agree with what some snobbish critics said 14 years ago, right?

Op stop samefagging. It's embarrasing.

>everyone who doesn't agree with me is samefagging
You're being a child.

I also enjoyed this movie a lot. However, I watched it many years after its theatrical release. Makes me think that is the future we are heading to and don't even realize it. Censorship all over the internet and only certain voices are allowed to be heard by the masses. It's only a matter of time in my eyes but maybe the world would be better off if everyone lived like emotionless drones.

You know, it's funny. When Alfred was narrating about World War III and explaining the setting I actually thought to myself "Oh shit. He's talking about the near future."

I think whoever wins the election next week is going to destroy the country. Be it through war with Russia or war with everyone else. And then we'll end up in a society like Equilibrium's.

I find this movie highly entertaining. Action scenes were god-tier. I think if the second half were improved upon just a bit it could be better then the matrix.

I agree both candidates are evil and we fucked no matter who gets chosen. It's funny to me when people think one is better option than the other. Don't even realize we are being played and I'm sure behind the scenes they are both even friends. We live in a world of lies so I got used to it and don't care who wins. I'll try to live my life and survive w/e is coming for us.

>It was awesome

How in the fuck can you possibly think that when the movie has such god awful fight choreography? Seriously go rewatch some of those scenes it's just Bale slowly spinning while all the people he shoots just stand around and do nothing.

It's meant to portray that Preston is so fast that they don't even have a chance to move.

I don't care what it's meant to portray when it looks like ass.

Well now I am very interested, please tell me more, Equilibrium has a soft spot on me, at first it seemed like a B-movie but I appreciated it more as I rewatched it.

Well it doesn't look like ass so that's irrelevant to this conversation.

>1984 with guns and monks for plebs.

Not him but here's an article that details the commentary in text form. Pretty interesting read: avclub.com/article/iequilibrium-i2002-46468

Among other things they only had the budget for one take in a lot of scenes. It's impressive it turned out as well as it did.

Yes it does look like ass and is really god damn embarrassing at times too unless you're 14.

Resorting to half-assed ad-hominem (I'm 26, by the way) really doesn't help your argument.

it is honestly a fucking stupid movie, but this scene is still fantastic.

actually watch the embedded video for a good laugh

Why do you think it is stupid? And not just stupid, but fucking stupid.

Does anyone know of the screenwriter Gen Urobuchi? He liked Equilibrium so much that he wrote a fanfiction of it. It's actually been translated into English.

It's a great flick. Cheap props though but the Gun-kata fights were absolute sex

how can i put it...

Red Faction 2 is a fucking stupid game but I still like it.

that's it. Equilibrium is the Red Faction 2 of cinema.

Equilibrium is a good flick
Matrix is a good film
Dark City is Kino
Thirteenth Floor is reddit

Dark City rules.

uhh is that the one with William Hurt?

idk, it's the one with all the maynard keenard looking dues in trench coats.

Probably left it with some kiddos in the resistance.

They're all shit.

So what you're saying is it's good. To clarify: You like it, which means it was a success at something, which means that it is good by some metric.

Yes

you rotten scumbag, user. I bet you don't even like Phantoms or any other 90s darkness kino.

I saw mention of Dark City in the top Netflix review for Equilibrium. Never heard of it, but it was listed alongside a bunch of good movies so I figured "may as well try it."

>Equilibrium
>flick

What is this meme? It was pretty fucking deep.

Can I get a link senpai?

Sure, it's actually completely free to download.

In conclusion, Equilibrium is a fantastic movie and if you hate it you are retarded.
