Everybody knows that Sony sucks

Everybody knows that Sony sucks.

But which of these Sony nostalgiagrabs was the worst and why?

Ghostbusters because of the shitstorm

I'd argue that Ghostbusters was the best BECAUSE of the shitstorm. But as a film, yeah, it's the worst.

There are so many examples in movies and television of bad reboots with things I loved when I was younger and I should be grateful. But I still want a Silver Hawks reboot so bad.

Let's be real, Silverhawks was only good because of it's cheesy factor, the toyetic-ness, and that awesome theme song. A reboot wouldn't have any of that.

Even though the other two desecrated Voerhoeven's best two works (Starship is a distant third), Ghostbusters is far and away the worst on that list. If you pretend the originals don't exist, Robocop and Total Recall work as bland and forgettable science fiction. Ghostbusters was just aggressively bad and the fact that it was also used to push an agenda was just icing on the shit cake.

Flesh + Blood was his third best, Starship Troopers was fourth.

Robocop remake was ALRIGHT
Total Recall was a mess and barely watchable
Ghostbusters was dreadful

robocop

>remember that really gritty yet satirical movie about a detroit cop gunned down and rebuilt as a robot, then seeking revenge?
>lets do that but completely sterilize it, remove everything that made it memorable for the sake of political correctness, and turn it into one big smartphone advertisement

All just shit.

But worst is Robocop. PG-13 kid friendly capeshit robocop... Again. Verhoven is rolling in his tomb.

And now there is Rambo reboot in works. After all these flops can't Jewwood take a hint?

>Silverhawks was only good because of it's cheesy factor, the toyetic-ness, and that awesome theme song

That's why I think it could be good though. There's not much to fuck up and so much to improve on. It's not like any of OP's pic where you have classic moments or overall themes that need to be matched/duplicated or reimagined in some creative way. Just fucking space adventure with flying cyborgs, one of them is mute and the other is a country music fan.

People always forget that Sony also did that Karate Kid remake with Will Smith's kid.

I mean, I agree in theory. But I've yet to see a reboot of an old 80's classic that simply takes what came before and improves upon it. They usually try to make it more edgy (which usually only succeeds in making it more bland) and tone down the humor and fun. But in theory, sure, it could work.

Yea, happily and quite purposefully.
Until some asshole comes along and reminds me.

>Karate Kid - 2010
>Total Recall - 2012
>RoboCop - 2014
>Ghostbusters - 2016
>????? - 2018

I know. You're not wrong.
Like I said, I know I should be grateful. It's just that almost everything else has so why not this too?

I can only guess that it's because the ThunderCats reboot was unsuccessful. The show had decent ratings but nobody bought the toys. That's how a lot of decent shit gets cancelled.

MY PET MONSTER!!!

do it, Sony. I dare you.

Who the fuck would go see that?

Just change the genders and pay a bunch of critics to give it good reviews and shame everyone who doesn't want to see it by telling them that if they don't then they're misogynists.

That always works. Oh, wait...

Robocop was terrible - the original was incredible

Ghostbusters wasn't too awful, there were some good parts

The new Total Recall was pretty bloody good. Enjoyed the atmosphere.

Recall and RC kept their heads down and just were what they were, fairly generic but competently made action movies cashing in on franchise titles. Ghostbusters was a giant garish piece of shit with all kinds of sociopolitical baggage the filmmakers felt they had to weigh it with to turn a profit

That Ghostbusters movie is one of the most mindboggling fuck-ups ever committed by a large company. Putting your personal politics before the financial stability of your company is suicide.

You're just salty bc ghostbusters was a film centred around women. After watching it I can't see how this was "putting personal politics" ahead of anything. Honestly, you sou d as bad as the sjws you hate so much. In what way did it further the feminist agenda?? It was just not as good as the original, and even that is simply seen through rose coloured specticles.

Not salty. Just stunned that anyone thought this film would make money. Any analyst could have predicted the outcome.

You're saying words, but you don't understand them.
Parroting what a few people have said about this film doesn't make you an astute film critic

Totally not samefag.

>basically thundercats in space
yeah, alright

>The new Total Recall was pretty bloody good. Enjoyed the atmosphere.

KYS

Stop supporting Sony. Every time you pay for a Sony product, your lifestyle deteriorates in quality by 3%.

Even as a kid I found it hard to get through an episode of Silverhawks, Thundercats was just better all around.

>that episode where Mumm-Ra steals Excalibur and kills all of them then starts laughing and stabs the sword in the ground and then realizes he can't remove it

They also fucked up the Magnificent Seven.
And they will fuck up Spiderman again in the new reboot.

Robocop >> Total Recall > Ghostbusters

What's worse between a pile of shit, a pile of vomit, or a puddle of piss?

Robocop was the worst. Ghostbusters was never any good to begin with so the remake doesn't detract from the original in that sense, while Total Recall had some fun bits (like Brian Cranston) so it wasn't complete shit.

Piss is sterile and therefore less harmful.

RoboCop, then?

Silverhawks wasn't just Thundercats in Space, Thundercats is a fantasy adventure whereas Silverhawks is a futuristic cop drama and regardless in terms of animal sidekicks alone, Tally Hawk > Snarf in every way by several magnitudes.

But then you're still stuck with the Copper Kid.

I like The Copper Kid I also like Snarf.

Is this even a question? Ghostbusters. It's legitimately awful.

I think Total Recall was a pretty fine movie that would have done better if it wasn't called Total Recall, and the Robocop remake was pretty decent, a remake that actually had a point to existing because it took a specific and different take on the source material instead of being just a weak attempt at doing the old thing again (which is what got everyone the turd that was Robocop 2)

>(which is what got everyone the turd that was Robocop 2)

Robocop 2 while not as good as one is still a good movie in its own right, and far better than RemakeCop.

>a remake that actually had a point to existing because it took a specific and different take on the source material

Yeah we needed a black male Anne Lewis and power ranger-esque fight scenes, and don't forget how the power of love lets Murphy shoot Batman at the end.

Total garbage.

You liked the RoboCop remake more than RoboCop 2? I can't even.

Ishtar

I'm not even sure I like the remake more than Robocop 3.

this nigga high on nuke

Captain Power and the soldiers of future
remake when? anyone hype?

Ghostbusters: Complete and utter shit.

Total Recall: Better than the original in ever way, the idea of a reboot being better enrages the nostalgia-cucks so let's just all pretend Arnlod is a good actor and Total Recall is a masterpiece.

Robocop: Better and more serious look at robot in roles of authority, let's all pretend Robocop is not a campy piece of shit however, reboots can't possible be better.

None of these films are particularly good in the first place.

>Better and more serious look at robot in roles of authority

That's what you think RoboCop was about? Are you 9?

It's the only case where a remake with changed genders won't upset anyone since no one cares about the original.
They should cast Amy Schumer playing one of the two talentless main characters.
She won't even need to pretend.

3, 2, 3, 4, 4, 2, 3, and

That's the kind of movie they should be remaking. Because the original is actually bad so they should try to make it again.

Remaking movies that still hold up doesn't make any sense. Oh, wait, exploiting nostalgic marquee value for the sake of cashgrab. I almost forgot.

Ghostbusters. At least Total Recall and Robocop looked cinematic, like they actually spent money on them. Ghostbusters cost as much as those two but it looked like a Youtube video since they got a director who can't direct a frame of anything cinematic.

femGB: haven't seen it, only parts of the trailers and the massive advertisement agenda. it's a blasphemy to make the GB horrorcomedy to a feminist agenda comedy

TR: havent seen

RC: wasn't that bad. Keaton as vilain was good. They fucked it up with not being bloody and tha fucking family drama. And the only mass shooting scene they did by fucking switched off light in total darkness... wtf

damn you to hell. now i have to spend all day extracting ether from starting fluid to wash the memory of that out of my head.

robocop could have been more, but it was obviously edited by some corporate hack. it would have been glorious if htey went balls out down the old school japanese body horror and grimdark yet tongue in cheek jesus is a white policeman from future detroit of the original. the whole stuck in his own body unable to do shit because they hacked his Central Nervous System was 2spoopy. it could have been better if they just said FUCK IT, WE BOUGHT THE TICKET, WE SURE AS FUCK IS TAKING THE RIDE. if they would have gone down the south africa in michigan path featuring THE TANK POLICE, that would have been neat too.

i liked the robocop remake, and even i have to admit that robocop 2 was a much better movie.

>Rambo reboot
wtf
Stallone approved? or it's now with The faggot Rock ?

>RoboCop 2014

Yep, it's a PG-13 sci-fi movie made in the year 2014, all right.

Robocop and Total Recall are Verhoeven's sci-fi classics. I actually care more about those two. So it's worse.
If Ghostbusters had a less retarded director and less social media drama I wouldn't even give a fuck.

>Verhoven is rolling in his tomb

GhostBland vs RoboDull vs Total Boring vs The Generic Kid

>sony keeps remaking old classics
>it's repeatedly a failure
>it's still considered the "safe bet" option by executives
lmao.

I think it's panic at how hard it is to get asses in seats for new IPs. At least using an old name gets you a few people for free.

Let's assess.

Ghostbusters
>what made the original good?
traditional effects, Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis' comedic style, Bill Murray's sardonic wit, eerie atmosphere that feels more like a horror movie than a comedy
>does the remake have these?
Nope.
>Verdict
Sucks

RoboCop
>what made the original good?
Biting satire, fucking violent as shit, traditional effects, not afraid of being too silly or tongue-in-cheek, ridiculous one-liners
>does the remake have these?
It tries to be a little bit funny, but it comes off as try-hard most of the time.
>Verdict?
Sucks

Total Recall
>What made the original good?
It's got Ahnold, amazing traditional effects, unique, imaginative sci-fi setting, violent as shit, ridiculous one-liners
>does the remake have these?
Nope
>Verdict
Sucks

Final Tally:
Best is probably RoboCop. It sucks, but of those three it tries the hardest. And by hardest I mean it lifted one finger while the others didn't even do that.

idk how it works, they have a quota? eg. to make 20 movies/year that will bring $X money, if they want to pay to the employees (and of cours earn profit).
and when they fail with earning money, they can just blame piracy, and not they faggotry of trying to sell a story with the 3rd remake.

I keep forgetting robocop remake happened, never seen anyone mention it here

All of these movies will only be remembered for being laughably bad remakes of evergreen classics. Not unlike the Psycho remake or the Halloween remake.

TASM2, jesus what a fuckin mess.

god I wish

i watched ghostbusters until it was finished beacuse i wanted to know what all the fuzz was about, i stopped halway through robocop because it sucked ass and i didnt even bother to watch total recall. so, total recall, i guess.

its not really worth discussing, its mediocre at best, and played bland, lukewarm and safe.

the psycho remake wasnt bad though, it was well crafted, the acting was good, but i have to admit the whole shot for shot remake was off putting. but Vince Vaughn was damn good in it.

Robocop and Total Recall remakes were just bland and forgettable.

Ghostbusters was fucking awful.

Ghostbusters the whole shitstorm ensured the IP is finally dead.
