my great grandfather was a farmer until he died at 91 it a lot more than just chucking some seeds in the dirt, and even more if you want to get money from your farm (most farmers are in perpetual debt)
only thing that makes family farms profitable is inheritance and generational knowledge of the land.

alternatively you should think about cash crops and hiring labour for the farm.
