No need. Not worth it. Nothing made before 4k cameras has enough visual data to justify a 4k release. And 4k footage itself is really only useful as a raw footage source that can be comfortably chopped up into smaller material that still outputs at 1080.

>redpill
Fuck off redditor, Sup Forums is that way

apparently 35mm film is appox. as good as a 6K picture so there could be improvement still (yeah, yeah, i know the faults in comparing analog v. digital and all that, and all the variables contained in the physical condition of the film does a lot to affect quality, and degradation in copies of the negative and reprints, and so on and so forth, but theoretically film is still "superior" as far a resolution goes)

resolution does barely anything to improve picture. if anything it only really serves to give VFX houses more pixel data for better chroma keying.

HDR is what people need to be redpilled on because it's probably as drastic a picture change as when we went from SD to HD.

It's not about 4K stupid pleb
>HDR
Fucking this

...

>HDR
Literally a meme, at least right now. Sure maybe 5 years from now 10% of the content creators will support it and HDR will have a proper standard that all TVs and content follow, then buy HDR monitor.
As for 4K, right now it's cheap enough that it doesn't justify buying a 1080p TV anymore. So meme or not you are getting more pixels and the ability to watch shit at 4k.

Wait a few more years and it will be worth it

give me one good reason i shouldnt wait for roll up wallpaper tvs or get a projector

Because projectors are an overrated meme and wallpaper tv's sound like a terrible idea and won't be a thing for decades - if at all.

None of it is actually 4k except those new fancy blu-rays.

Its not worth being an early adopter to technology that will be the standard in a few years down the line. Barely any media actually supports 4k yet, and the TVs are still too expensive.

I like how that moronic maymay just means "spoonfeed me"

i need to buy a television to replace my old Vizio that just went kaputt, so should i just get a good 1080p set? i mean, you can get a decent 4k Samsung for like a grand

So should I wait on buying a new TV? Not OP but I've had my eye on some 4ks as well.

>will i really have to buy a THIRD copy of some of my favorite movies again after DVD and Blu-ray?

no. the jump from 1080p to 2160p is noticable but not even close to the difference between 480p to 1080p.

really not that hard. if you're buying a new tv now anyway you can go for 4k but if your tv is still working you stick to it.

It's not worth the money afaik.

A lot of people getting 4k right now are doing it for bragging rights tbqh.

A very good 1080p set is going to be better then one of the cheap 4k tv's. OLED displays look really nice, but their lifespan is about 1/4-1/3 of a regular display.

There's no reason to get a 4K TV right now. 4K looks better than 1080p but the difference isn't drastic. Plus only a very small fraction of content is available in 4K and it costs more money than 1080p content. It'll be at least another two years until 4K becomes worthwhile.

but wallpaper tvs already exist, in five to tennyears they will be a thing

They do? If so, link please and how shitty are they?

You get 4K for rec2020 which is 4k only
and of course combined with oled its amazing

i have signature lg and its mind blowingly amazing
tho it did cost 7000 euros

>youtube.com/watch?v=nXhxv6j3LcE
they explain it better than anyone here.
In short if you have money 4K OLED if not wait it out for at least the new HDMI standard comes out next year.

i saw the japanese had working ones last year, they looked good. i dont know what the hell they are called though but they looked good

the problem is that nobody is into making 1080p TVs anymore

You can just wait it out and start over for 8K.

>giving this much money to the electronics jew

money is made to be spent
plus its for my company so i saved in taxes :)

You get to see more peach fuzz covered waifu faces. Don't you want to know how clear their pores are?

What more is there to say other than it's a different standard of digital video.

1080 was designed as a digital standard to replace previous formats, particularly the 4:3 aspect ratio for a more flexible 16:9.

4K is just a different standard being put out now because the price isn't that exorbitant any more and manufactures judge that there's a mass market for them

>money is made to be spent
It's not meant to be wasted though.
