Worst Horror Tropes

Since Halloween is over its to bitch about the movies you watched

>Horror movie

>a nursery rhyme is sung in a "spooky" way
>jumpscare with someone normal walking in or an appliance
>cops dont exist
>car doesnt start
>characters are unlikeable do you dont care if a killer gets them anyway

>abandoned school, hospital or apartment complex

>some old dude/wizard/ex-hunter explains the rules
>we gotta go in the mirror world to kill it!
Second one is fairly new but annoying.

>paranormal investigator has to come in and tediously explain the whole plot

>look in mirror (just reflection)
>open cabinet
>close cabinet
>BOO monster

>Splitting up to cover more ground

>"Let's split up"
Dumbest thing you can do, you all deserve the horrible things are will happen to you.

>a nursery rhyme is sung in a "spooky" way
it's more trailers than movies themselves, but i'm getting pretty dang tired of the breathless spooky cover of a contemporary song too

>the rules

>protagonists follow the rules perfectly
>seems like the evil is defeated
>it comes back for no reason other than to have a downer ending

>guy hears something
>tension building
>slowly turns around
>nothing
>turns back
>jumpscare

Sup?

>Camera follows a potential victim
>Implies that you are seeing things from the killers point of view
>Turns out to be a dogs point of view or some shit

>character is being chased
>trips and falls over
>doesn't get up
>turns around to face the killer
>slowly shuffles backwards, but still doesn't get up

In reference to anything?

>hush little baby dont say word daddys gonna buy you a blacked.com subscription

>character hears a noise
>they check it out by themselves

>that pic

Fucking racist pig. That makes me mad.

>see demons ghosts and other supernatural shit
>don't pray to God

>college kids
>nuclear family in a haunted house
>kids in general
>tension, fake scare, pause, jumpscare
>arbitrary rules
>nobody thinks of the most obvious solutions

this

>Family lives in a haunted house where demons are bruising you and fucking with your kids at night

>We have no where else to go

I think a homeless shelter is better than being abused by demons and ghosts you fucks, just sell the house

Also

>House is haunted
>They dont demolish it at the end

>character tries to logically explain a poltergeist

hehe le fake outrage!! xD

Hi Sup Forums!

>characters have sex with their clothes on

splitting up

>Only female virgins deserve live
>male virgins get killed

fucking sexist

This.

I'm not very religious but the first time I had sleep paralysis without knowing what was going on I went straight to crying out for Jesus

>ghost waits until you buy the house and move all your shit in before it haunts you

>female last survivor

Every modern film needs to explain why everyone can call for help.

>hold phone in up the air dur I have no reception.

>Loud screeching noise for a fake jumpscare
>Turns out it was only their friend or their postman or some stupid shit.
>"Hahahaha you should've seen your faces!"
>"Jimmy you asshole! You scared me!"
What's the purpose of this?

The absolute worst. It deflates everything that made the villain threatening and turns it into "Oh, guess you can't win after all"

sauce ?

>final girl
I don't think any movie cliche of any genre is adhered to quite as slavishly as the final girl.

Also I hate women btw

>main character(s) go to the library and look at microfilms about the history of the town
>ghost has some tragic past, is really the victim in their etc.
>ghost is dispelled by doing some retarded thing to appease it

it seriously cuts the balls off of every horror movie.

Honestly I gave up, Sup Forums won.
Horror is a genre where vidya is where it's at. It just works.

>le incredibly pissed on libtard act

Hi pol

>Possessed children

It's been overdone and it's boring as hell.

>kids doing anything at all
>meta tropes

>jacket
>tshirt
>fedora
Could you have any less fashion sense?

>villain sustains massive injuries without slowing down or any visible effects
>villain overpowers large, strong men effortlessly

>turns out later that it's just a normal human serial killer

>character is scared by somebody gently tapping them on the shoulder to get their attention

>look in mirror (just reflection)
>open cabinet
>close cabinet
>BOO nothing
>character turns around
>BOO monster

not so much a trope I guess, but if a character gets even slightly hurt in a horror movie there's a 90% chance that he won't make it for another 20 minutes

>poltergeist
>they bring in a scientist who tries to explain it

Then the scientist gets BTFOd and they bring in an exorcist who saves the day

>children giggling
>disjointed movement/arms angled strangely

spider walk was one of the goat moments though

>Autists Listing Things That Happen in Movies: the Thread

>Some fag's mad because people list things that constantly happen in horror movies in a thread about listing things that constantly happen in horror movies
>Same Fag Needs To Type Like This
>calls others autists

Movies from before cell phones were a thing:
>this problem could be easily fixed by having a cell phone
Movies after:
>this problem could easily be fixed by the faggot putting his phone on vibrate

The worst meme has to be 'psychological horror'.
>movie is bland as fuck for 2 hours
>supposedly is 'creating atmosphere'
>Show something midly spooky in the end
>get praise from redditors and pretentious people on the internet
etc
>if you don't like it you get labeled as a 'pleb' because u just don't get it

Name one instance of this

>spooky shit starts happening
>virgin girl is legitimately frightened
>alpha Chad tries to make it into a joke/starts fucking with her/deliberately does shit to piss off ghosts/demons/killer/etc.

>demons and ghosts exist
>God doesn't or has no more influence on the world than "just pray and have faith lol :)"

Literally Noroi: the movie

Such garbage but gets praised here constantly

>le replying to obvious bait

Hi Sup Forums

>Little child who is friends with the ghost.
>fourth wall breaking in serious horror: "I'm no damsel!" "nuh uh, I seen what happens to black dudes in this movie"
>atmospheric horror movie had an action scene for its climax

I had a spider walk up my leg once whilst doing a massive dump

Kek this is so common, especially in horrors for teenagers, with characters who are supposed to be ~18.

Arms angled strangely is legitimately creepy
Horror movies are supposed to be creepy

At least this kind of alpha gets killed every single time in horror movies. If any male survives its always the less dominant but not completely beta friend who does.

>female survives in the end

>The Babadook

>ghosts exist
>everyone acts like it is the first time they've ever heard of or seen ghosts
>ghosts do things that don't make sense for no reason, like open and close doors, walk loudly
>ghosts do things specifically to frighten people, for no reason
>ghosts are all powerful and undefeatable

Killers doing things that only exist to scare the audience rather than their victims.

So what actually is scar to you guys? I like horror but haven't found anything scary since that first part of The Ring when I was 11 or so

Well, that's the issue. You're used to all of that stuff now. You're older. It's going to be hard to scare you. You have to let yourself be scared and not think of all the things that don't make sense... just like when you were younger, more naive, and less experienced.

>unseen force grabs someone, drags them into a room then shuts the door

That's the problem, there is no original ideas it seems that could actually scare an adult.

Maybe VR could "save" the genre

It's not about being an adult or not - there are plenty of adults that get scared of movies. Usually it's girls.
The issue is being jaded and used to movies. Nothing can really change that other than not watching them for a while or just simply letting yourself just get scared. The second one is harder after you've developed enough maturity to realize all the tricks they use.

shit taste

What are you going to do once you become desensitised to VR horror?

Just go and get William Shatner mask and start killing teens on camping trips for real. That buzz never wears off.

I usually give most horror tropes a free pass. Mostly because even if I know what's going to happen, it still scares me.

>what do we do now
>call the mexican cleanig lady to do an exorcisim
I wonder if thats part of the job description

>Horror genre apparently doesn't exist in that universe
I seriously hate shit like that. You'd think the teens would have seen a couple of fucking horror movies and knows how to apply those situations to their plight.

>It's a parents/authority figure ignoring children's pleas when there are supernatural things CLEARLY happening.

Absolute worst trope.
You always see it coming from a mile away too.
Especially shit if it's just for a final jumpscare.

>paralyzed from the waist down
>grab jessica biels fat ass while when she helps you into your wheelchair

every fucking time

i saw it yesterday. Its fucking trash.

>zombie apocalypse
>call them anything but zombies

Tho, I liked the term 'zeke' in World War Z

>tfw enjoy a lot of these movies

Just saw "I am the pretty thing that lives in the house" too and really liked it.

That movie was fucking shit, and I like pychlogical horrors too.

>something scary happens
>oh thank goodness it was just a dream
>another scary thing happens
>phew that was just a dream too

>atheist is skeptical about the supernatural events occurring around him at first

It's justifiable in TWD because it's specifically stated by the creator that Night of the Living Dead was never made and the term zombie had faded into obscurity.

>Characters pretending that horror movies, books, etc. don't exist in their world

>Walks into dark house
>"Hello?"

>Story takes place in USA
>No one NO ONE carries a gun

>athiest is still an athiest after seeing actual angels and demons n shit

>House is legit haunted
>They don't stay with relatives for a bit while using an actual haunted house to make money off of
>They don't make a profit off the demons and the suffering ghosts that haunt it

I get how a lot of people would probably hate it and a lot of films of that ilk. But I guess one of the reasons I like them so much is that they tend to avoid a lot of the things listed ITT. Also a lot of them are v well shot and pretty to look at.

>movie about Satan and evil shit but doesn't involve God

>Creaking noise
>"Hello?"
>Girl walks towards sound
>Cat scrambles out

The bitch from X-Files is the worst example of this. Literally gets abducted by aliens and fights leech monsters but is still skeptical about them.

VVitch

Son gets witched, they pray, nothing happens, son dies
