So, am I crazy for being baffled as to why this film is treated as apparent the gold standard for Childrens flicks a lot by critics?
Like, it certainly wasn't bad, but I was hugely disappointed by everything except the concept of the movie itself. Joy's whole adventure was pretty underwhelming and forgettable especially compared to some of Pixar's other small person big world stuff. It also felt like a supreme waste that all the other emotions were just gag characters and never got any actual development.
Ultimately though, the biggest problem I have with it is they had a great basic idea but just rehashed a lot of stuff they've already done before to fill in the gaps. This and Up are so insanely overrated.
Jordan Russell
Some people are suckers for over-the-top sentimentality.
Alexander Sanchez
The concept was good and Not was a cute. But I agree with you that it was a bit overwhelming. I liked it though because that's pretty much what I'm going through, and when sadness touches memories it struck a chord with me.
I'm not going through a good time in my life right now.
Nicholas Reed
>implying in any other studi bing bong wouldn't come back >implying in any other studio joy wouldn't solve everything because you need to be le happy all the time and life will smile at you :D >implying any other studio would show a kid literally stealing from her own mother >implying any other studio they would maintain the island destroyed meaning that she has permanent damage and changed herself forever
one word for why it is so good consequences.
Nicholas Reyes
Weird. I actually first watched this at a time when I was depressed but came away with the opposite impression. I couldn't connect with the movie at all and thought it was too overly simplistic even for a kids movie.
Jayden Martinez
no troll but your may suffer autism
Tyler Rodriguez
>consequences But she ends the movie where she began: happy with her family, with all her little emotions in her head. Even the islands get replaced, and Bing Bong wasn't there at the beginning of the film so him not being there at the end hardly matters.
Everything returns to status quo with the only change being Joy is a bit less of a controlling dick.
Lincoln Lee
with joy being less controlign means that she will be a different person all around, her personality changed forever
Jordan Hall
My mom hated this movie and she's a sucker for kid's movie sentimentality
The bit at the end with all the different people/animal emotions was pretty funny tho
Logan Parker
It was a fantastic movie about growing up and moving. Only autistic people can't appreciate it, which is why it's consistently shit on here
Alexander Reed
And yet, in the final scene, the girl acts exactly like she used to. She even went back to liking hockey. Status quo is maintained. Nothing has really changed.
Lincoln Brown
>doesn't know what moving on with your life means
This movie was too advanced for you
Kevin Sanders
Toy Story literally already explored both those things. The problem people have is it basically brought nothing new to the table with Pixar. They just took a lot of their good older ideas and slapped together a movie.
Easton Mitchell
I disagree. Some similar themes, but in general very standalone.
Tyler Reyes
I really hate the culture of childless manchildren watching this crap.
Dominic Price
There is so much stuff in that movie that was just straight up taken out of the Toy Story trilogy.
I felt like I was watching Toy Story: The Osmosis Jones version.
Christian Lewis
why do autists don't get inside out?
Levi King
Name 23 other movies that conveyed emotion the way superially to this.
Brayden Long
>why do people with literally broken brains not understand how emotions work
Jeremiah Ortiz
They don't understand emotions
Evan James
She "moves on with her life" by going exactly back to where she was like nothing ever changed, like nothing actually happened. She's even back to playing hockey again at the end.
Isaac Flores
She only gave up hockey to begin with because it reminded her of her old home and all the people she missed. Now she can get back to playing it in a new environment with new people and building relationships in her present is a sign of growth from her.
Lincoln Sullivan
Her going back to hockey isn't a sign of her growing up. In fact, it's the opposite: it's her reverting to her childhood for comfort. It's what those "remember the 90s" people do.
Inside-Out isn't about growing up, it's about clutching onto memories and reconceptualizing them (like when Joy sees the memory in a new light) like you're some kind of clickbait website and your life is a "10 jokes that totally went over your head in cartoons" article. It's about being a manchild, which is why manchildren loved it.
Ultimately, she doesn't grow up and move on, she moves back to where she was as best as she can.
Levi Mitchell
Well you are welcome to that interpretation of the film if you want.
Justin Hernandez
Thanks for giving me permission. I really appreciate it.
Evan Smith
You're welcome user. And thank you too most people here are complete assholes.
Elijah Lee
She's ten year old for fuck's sake cut her some slack.
Brandon Cruz
Nobody is bashing the emotions being represented by characters aspect you dipshits. That was the redeeming part of the film and a good concept.
Where Inside Out falls short is not doing more with such a great initial idea. It's like said. They took that cool premise and just made another Toy Story.
Parker Hughes
I saw this back when it came out and thought the same thing. It really wasn't that good. I was expecting more scenes of human interaction, and then showcasing how the emotions inside the head react. Instead, we got a tiny glimpse of that while the rest of the movie turned into a generic Pixar adventure film. It wasn't even a satisfying adventure, Joy and Sadness(?) were so boring and the whole world felt so lifeless. The best part of the film was the the end bit where we saw all those interactions in the teens, the animals, etc.
Noah Rodriguez
guess I can't do things I enjoy again after a break since it would upset autistic people like you so much
Jordan Martin
Guess you can't.
Charles Gomez
I actually hate this movie. Almost none of the jokes landed for me. The whole conflict could have been resolved by having a sibling in the mix which is more realistic anyways. The arc of the film is dead obvious to anyone over the age of 14. The emotion jokes were predictable and unfunny. The emotion characters themselves being so linear made for predictable interactions. Also the visual style was not really to my liking.
The only part of the movie I liked was the imaginary character's sacrifice, and even then it was just a nice moment, not a character I had become attached to.
Haha isn't it funny that dog emotions act like dogs. Haha.
Joseph Wright
I have to feel like these people citing autism for not loving Inside Out are Gen Z types who haven't actually watched earlier Pixar films. It is one of their laziest movies to date.
Austin Bell
this is the kind of people who hates pixar movies everyone.
Andrew King
>The only part of the movie I liked was the imaginary character's sacrifice, and even then it was just a nice moment, not a character I had become attached to.
Anyone who wasn't stupid should have seen that coming from a mile away. The whole movie was damn predictable.
Leo Watson
It's just an attempt to feel better about themselves. "I'm not autistic! I'm not a socially inept loser! I loved Inside Out!"
Benjamin Price
i felt the same way. it was just "look we're getting somewh- oop no we're back at square one again, isn't this FUN?"
I loved the bits with riley and her parents and how fucking real those emotions felt but as a whole the movie is pretty low on my pixar tier list
funny, i thought this would be A+ and zootopia mediocre but i found it was exactly the opposite
William Rodriguez
pretty sure everyone on this board watched every pixar movie, the only place bashing inside out is Sup Forums wich is known to be a place for autistic people, so it is 2 plus 2
Levi Bennett
This, I watched it when I was going through crippling depression and I came out more annoyed than anything
Elijah Mitchell
Agreed.
Daniel Carter
A swing and a miss at trying to capture the golden age where Pixar couldn't be stopped, but it's still pretty decent On par with Zootopia
James Wood
ITT: Autism
James Price
that's weird because ratatouille walle monsters Inc and incredibles are among my all time favorite movies inside out is just one of their laziest and most juvenile
Isaiah Sullivan
Critics always prioritize the virtues and the overall appeal to kids in kids movies to decide how to rate them. Inside Out was solid in both regards, but it's on the low end of Pixar creativity.
If you were to judge Pixar movies using adult movie criteria, Wall-E is just by far their best work and the first Toy Story is 2nd.
Camden Walker
the second half of wall-e is dreamworks tier no matter how many kubrick references there's in it
Nolan Price
>for kids And women.
Ethan Martinez
this guy gets how fuckin adult wall-e was I don't love the latter half of the movie but the first half is haunting and beautiful. it's a creative and unexpected love story told entirely through imagery and animation. Those first 40-odd minutes are Pixars crowning achievement, nothings come close since.
Michael Rogers
my wife had Free Birds on the TV the other night when i got home from work That is not a movie you can pick up halfway and be able to follow, holy fuck
Julian Thompson
I'm a high functioning autist and I loved Inside Out. It really helped me understand emotions more.
Adrian Gray
also Fred Willard is a legend and Pixar is a legend for recognizing that.
Nolan Rodriguez
What the fuck are you talking about you cunt? Both the first half and the second half were great for different reason.
The second half was a really creative take on societal decadence and sent a message to kids to get fit.
I am like 99% sure you are a triggered fatass.
Jack Myers
wtf i hate inside out now
David Anderson
Wall-E is not overrated at all and only "muh first 10 minutes of Up"redditors disagree Inside Out is some bullshit tho
