There's no need for it. Let people have guns as is their right in the US. It's not guns that kill people, it's people that kill people. Look at Europe. Psychopaths and terrorists still kill people over there, they just use other methods to do it, like vehicles, and you can't possibly regulate that.
When you look at gun violence in a population the size of the US with the kinds of people and issues we have in the US, it's inevitable that there are going to be incidents. Banning guns isn't going to stop that. Possibly better mental health services and an increase in the standard of living among the lower class could address the issue in part, but statistically violence is impossible to eliminate.

If parents responsibly introduced the concept of alcohol and taught their children about it responsibly at home maybe there wouldn't be this mad dash to pass out at 21.
