then when i show them actual uk style dubstep they call it instrumental hip hop

Yeah, I've had this happen to me before too. Dubstep replaced Techno as the "I don't know shit about electronic music but I need to be derisive" go-to genre to call anything.

I've gotten people who utterly hated dubstep into it by introducing them to 2005-2009 era UK Dubstep and explaining how Americans destroyed the genre.

Could you recommend something? I haven't tried much in this genre.

Still might not be your thing but you should immediately notice that not every song is built around MUH DROP like the direction a lot of American Dubstep artists tend to go in.
