I don't even consider the TFA review a Plinkett review. He likes the film, nitpicks a few insignificant details and then plays the devil's advocate by finding excuses for his complaints.

My theory is that Disney paid him for that review. Disney's marketing team has 20-somethings in it who have been on the internet before. The Phantom Menace review got over a million views. Add to it the views for AoTC and RoTJ reviews and you have millions. Disney marketing isn't stupid, they wanted to get in on the action and make sure the Plibjrt review shows the movie in a positive light.

Also, why the review took so long to make is because Disney had to approve of the review. He spends the first talk talking about some stupid ring theory and commenting on the prequel trilogy because there just isn't that many good things to say about TFA.

And yes, that's how marketing works. You keep interest up after the movie has been out. Rogue One coming out soon, then Episode VIII, you don't want people to forget. That's also how you get them to buy merchandise.

People watch that review 8 months later and think "oh yeah, I liked that film". By then the DVD/Blu-ray is out and then they go buy it.

Yehp. TFA was a decent film. Most criticisms can be traced back to either the lazy writing or disney playing it safe, but it was no where prequel tier bad, which are just objectively bad films. And really, thats all TFA needed to be. Better than the prequels

While I agree that it certainly played it safe, it was still a very fun film that understood what made Star Wars enjoyable. And besides, while I acknowledge that it borrowed from ANH, I feel people exaggerate how similar it was. Overall it's not the best Star Wars ever, but it's a great foundation to rebuild the franchise on.
