Back in the day it was the quintessential hipster album. It was made by a band that broke up before achieving any real recognition, the record used different instrumentation for its time and it was full of catchy and feesly songs. When the hipster backlash came about the record of course was left behind.

Sup Forums used to love the shit out of it, but it just gets backlash now because the new age of hipsters prefers shitty normie trap rap combined with pretentious garbage like Polly Bradfield's Solo Violin Improvisations and things that just don't sound good, have any real meaning, nor have any merit behind the playing and creation. See, the key to being a modern hipster is being contrarion. In the modern hipster's mind, Aqua's Aquarium is a masterpiece. Go check some of the reviewers on rateyourmusic. You'd be surprised to see that people who have heard thousands of musical works of passion and intricacy would rank that among their top 10 of all time. It's almost ridiculous how much music is taken as a joke of an artform.
