It's weird how these days no bigger house name is singing about wanting to have peace and unity in the world or writing songs about saving the environment

Because kids today are homicidal and suicidal. The human race is devolving.

Also weird how the climate change movement basically died after Obama left.

Michael Jackson was slandered, ruined, and killed because he expressed anti-Semetic opinions.

so many songs about that back then

these were more than two decades ago...when the problems weren't that real like they're nowadays

The climate change movement is in China now

So long as something is actually being done about it, it doesn't matter what artists say. How does writing a song help the situation/?

Music was alwas mirrored a society. especially in times of governmental anti environmental movements one would expect some kind of resistance through music

so I actually found songs, coming from the very same bands that are aimed at that kind of crowd you described.

however they're also already more than 5 years old

the weird thing is there is nothing about it now

Dark times man.

Disclaimer: This is not a good thing either

'Cause it was a baby boomer thing. The younger generations don't have that 60s idealism.

>It's weird how these days no bigger house name is singing about wanting to have peace and unity in the world or writing songs about saving the environment
kids that think shit is corny and rather talk about it on twitter

if you wanna be popular today talk about
how real you are and everybody else is fake
something about gender/sexuality
something about being self-aware about how your drug usage is bad but um you still do it anyway
or talk about how ugly/lame you are but its all good

People dont care about that stuff anymore they just care about tinder and nice watches

Not only that he sang about self improvement and real unity between people.

Many popular peace songs came in the 90s though

and so on

What opinions?

It's too bad he transformed into a creepy white guy who admitted to sleeping with children out of love. Imagine if he died in 1992. What a legacy he would have.

Don't bring Sup Forums into this board please.

JEW ME SUE ME
KICK ME KIKE ME

Underneath all that sarcasm, Gen-Xers are just hippies in leather jackets.

The decade isn't over yet, however there is a trend. Starting from 2010 peace songs decreased significantly.
Weird thing is, there were far more peace songs in the 00s than in the 90s, I wonder why and if digitalisation plays into it

HEAL THE WORRRRRLLLDDDDD
MAKE IT A BETTER PLAAACEEE

His life was already fucked way before that.

I hate the dindu nuffin revisionism about MJ. As if it was everybody's fault but his own in regards to his demise.

He was framed! The illuminati did it! The Jews did it!

Maybe he was just a kid beat my a psychopath father, who had to pretend he was asleep while his brothers fucked in the same motel room as him and warped his idea of sex for the rest of his life. Maybe he felt confined to his family unit for 20+ years and when he made is HUGE and got money, he fled his family and built his own little kingdom where nobody could tell him what to do.
He lived a life of grotesque excess and it was destined to kill him from the very beginning.

made it* huge

Michael Jackson was a worldwide phenomenon, maybe the public was just over saturated with this topic as he brought it up a lot in his songs.

Still idk, how the 80s had so many songs about it, while 2010 is really lackluster, although terrorism, sperationism, another cold war, digital terror are messing with this generation

There are recordings of phone calls where he called Jews "leeches" who suck onto famous people and drain them of their money.

I feel like instead of peace songs its more "row row fight da powa" songs getting more popular now. Those sheltered college kids need to have their 3-5 minute feeling of thinking they're making change in the world.

He said bad things about Jews in one of his songs. I know you get PTSD from posts that are slightly right from left but this is actually related to music, faggot.

The real reason is that people these days SUCK at making topical songs. Have you heard any of the songs last year about the election? TERRIBLE. People are too focused on themselves to have any useful insight about the world at large.

can you imagine the backlash and shitstorm if beyonce or someone did an environmental album

I mean, that's exactly what the Chinese government is trying to change now, compared to last decade

I can't imagine it would be worse than the backlash she got for making an album critisizing the white population

tbf it's more of an economic and mil decision, getting off oil , avoiding middle east politics etc
(although they seem to be hacking the everloving shit out of uae right now, probably over their nuclear program)

i can

based on what? you might be overestimating the anti-climate-change movement

>This whole post
What about A Tribe Called Quest's 2016 LP?
Meh anyway that last statement is too broad to actually mean anything. People have always focused on themselves. Care is extremely limited to the masses. Not many people exercise showing care for causes or groups of people that don't directly affect them. Not even that really it's often just straight up apathy to things that affect them as well, just like the election you mentioned. Most young people don't care enough to actually educate themselves on politics or be politically active or mindful of the future, everyone is just living in the present thinking "whatever will be will be".

People want conflict and confrontation in their music. They like to celebrate cultures separately, not together.

People are so bitter, that even Beyonce would be called out in some groups if she released a song like we are the world.

i doubt that
how can you overestimate the power of energy markets, really
it's the definition of power

You’re saying this like that’s something that they should be doing

Either way a ton of artists are doing songs for social issues right now, not universal issues like you are describing

There is, but not through pop music, since the only goal of pop music is to appeal to as many people as possible, something that cannot be done by expressing an opinion

so, these were not popular?

ya they stopped becoming popular
they can easily be found on bandcamp and other sites where bands/artists are free to upload whatever they want

the only heavily mentioned social issues nowadays are racism, gender and feminism.

And all these anti movements are rather of seperational nature than unifying.

ya if the only media you consume about those things are coming from radical lefties

I mean it's coming from both (extremists) sides, as there are anti-anti-movements underestimating or denying issues too.
extremism is maybe the social issue of the decade.

extremism is the new black and white

Yeah, that's what extremism means. Silly user.

>I mean, that's exactly what the Chinese government is trying to change now
I'm sure the CCP puts out a lot of propaganda releases.
