Which is better, Rick and Morty or Bojack Horseman?

Which is better, Rick and Morty or Bojack Horseman?

For comedy? Drama?

The Venture Bros.

Prove me wrong

Bojack is pure depression kino

Meme and Memey is literally re ddit

>Meme and Memey is literally re ddit

Explain how. I keep seeing this and NOBODY explains it.

Weak bait

>Prove me wrong
That wasn't one of the options.

that's because "reddit" is code for "whatever I don't like"

>SCIENCE!: the show
>not reddit

I've only seen Rick and Morty once when I went somewhere and the people who were there was watching it etc.

It was an episode about the purge. I thought it was alright. But not enough for me to go watch it on my own.

Never seen bojack but it has a voice actor that I like.

Why is this thread always posted though?

So, /sci/ is actually reddit?

Fucking blowing my mind.

So, the goal is so just call everything reddit? Why is Sup Forums so incapable of just voicing why they don't like something instead of calling it 'reddit'.

Rick and Morty is an OK Monster-Of-The-Week type cartoon with a very very very loose overarching plot that doesn't seem to use science as anything more than a vehicle for whacky adventures.

It's main problems

1. Shitty animation
2. Made up alien words are all the fucking same
3. Huge chunks of episodes have clearly been outtakes from a fucking sound booth run, or just pure made up and then animated for, making it fucking awful
4. Rick is just annoying with burping, why is this a thing? Thank fuck they kicked that 'disgusting old man' bullshit from the first episode out
5. That stupid face they pull with the dick mouths

It's an adult version of Futurama combined with Doctor Who. Both incredibly popular shows, one of which has been cancelled, again. Meaning there is a desire for this type of show.

It isn't deep or profound or anything, but a cartoon isn't fucking meant to be. If you want political shit, go to South Park, if you want fart jokes and flashbacks, go to Family Guy, if you want the closest thing to original Simpsons, go American Dad, if you want to hurt yourself, watch the Simpsons. If you want emo, watch Bojack Horseman.

Rick and Morty is a fine fucking program to watch and it could be good if they actually tried, but I don't think they want to and that isn't it's thing. Adult Swim lucked out combing shit people wanted and liked. Hell, even they copied Family Guy with it's time travel dimension stuff.

Rick and Morty is better for pure comedy, Bojack is better for dramedy stuff.

Bojack Horseman by a fucking mile.

I like Rick & Morty but Dan Harmon has a really bad habit with his shows, where after a solid first season he ruins everything by making the show aware of how good it was, resting on it's laurels and fanbase and winking at the audience every second about all of it. It's the same shit he did with Community and the Sarah Silverman show.

Bojack has had a more consistent, non-reactionary growth, finding it's footing as a show first and winking to fans second.

F is for Family

Bojack is a little too expository at times.

how is it SCIENCE!: the show?
it's regular science fiction you dingdong

This is one of the few times where it actually is reddit. I enjoyed most of the first season and a few episodes of the second, but its just meme baiting.

GET SCHWIFTY XD JAN MICHAEL VINCENT LOL GAZORPAZORP FUCKING FIELD BITCH

A lot of the jokes are just Justin Roiland being randumb and shit that is easily repeatable. The type of shit that reddit loves because they can upvote it because they know the reference.

I would probably like the show more if the fanbase wasnt so fucking obnoxious. Get Schwifty and Interdimensional Cable 2 were objectively the worst episodes of season 2 but its all the fan base ever talks about. It makes it easy to forget that they have some brilliant episodes with some interesting ideas.

You must be fun at parties

I'm posting on Sup Forums of course I'm not fun at parties

Rick and Morty is more entertaining as childish humor, Bojack is more entertaining as a narrative.

Neither of them is so special or unique, that they are deserving of the level of derision Sup Forums gives them.

Rick and Morty is pretentious and fun
Bojack is pretentious and boring

So let me get this straight. If we remove the forum context you generally like Rick and Morty, but you still want to make it clear that you belong to team Sup Forums by hating on it and randomly talking about reddit?

Think how much better this board would be if people stopped calling things reddit.

Apples to oranges
Rick & Morty is about philosophy
Bojack Horseman is about depression.
They're both very good at portraying their subjects.

I already generally like Rick and Morty.

I feel like you missed my point entirely. I'm simply explaining why the show is one of the few times where calling it reddit is a fair criticism.

I just hope season 3 is pandered more to me than to reddit memers. I hope theres more episodes that are about science fiction tropes, like M. Night Shaym-Aliens or The Ricks Must Be Crazy. I hope theres episodes that are interesting themselves, like A Rickle In Time or Total Rickall.

But the loud fans that dominate with memes will likely be pandered to so I'm expecting season 3 to be a Justin Roiland circle jerk with 'turds with breasts for testicles'.

No, it isn't Reddit. It's just that people on Reddit turn it into memes. Seriously, what you mentioned is literally ALL FUCKING Sup Forums does.

>BANE?
>HOTHEAD
>WELL DONE, WELL DONE, HOWEVER!
>COMMUNICATIONS
>WATCH IT X

So, those films are 'Sup Forums', right?

You're literally calling a show 'reddit' because of TWO fucking episodes? I agree with you on Interdimensional Cable 2, I even said that in that post, but to call it 'reddit' because of this shit is so fucking insane that I'm started to generally get concerned for peoples health who use it, unironically, as a reason why something is bad.

It's all about pandering to the "i fucking love science bill nye" crowd that is annoying as fuck.
Not to mention the entire show is full of that ironic-faux-depression/mental illness shit that redditors love to roll around in.

Yes they're Sup Forums because until situations change, reddit's cultural inclinations prevent them from appreciating those movies and scenes in the same way.

Rick and Morty is mostly funny with some depressing moments, Bojack is mostly depressing with some humourous moments.Apples to oranges, I think I prefer Bojack though.

Legit.

Bojack Horseman is for depressing bullshit. Rick and Morty is just adult futurama. Sup Forums used to love futurama, guess that's 'reddit' now too.

So, by your definition, the entire site is the same? So, say, /k/ will not appreciate gun porn war films any differently to, I dunno, /ic/?

>Rick & Morty is about philosophy
Lol

The new futurama seasons are undeniably reddit.
Not to mention the show in general hasn't aged very well outside of like 2 episodes.

they're both meme show's taylor made for plebby redditers

I like Bojack more :)

hmm yeah, I agree

good post

the entire show is just cheaply done user, it's enjoyable, but it's nowhere near as good as it could be with x10 the budget.

Rick and Morty is less personal, both of them are some what about existential angst and such.

Difference is that Rick and Morty is more science nihilism, Bojack is somewhat similar to Mad men I think. More character driven and subtle. Rick and Morty is in your face, pretty fun to watch but the emotional archs and stuff are way cheaper

What are other shows that are similarly fun/good

Any genre just hit me.

>they copied Family Guy with it's time travel dimension stuff
shows don't have patents on loose ideas such as time/dimensional travel. You've gotta admit that R&M does this idea better though, it's more believable coming from rick rather than stewie the fucking baby

>resting on it's laurels and fanbase and winking at the audience every second

That's what worries me about the direction of Rick and Morty. The first season, admittedly, was enjoyable all around. The second season had some real stinkers, but it was excused because R&M has a forgiving fanbase. If the third season goes tits-up, I'm going to point at Dan Harmon and crew for getting lazy

Thats the standard [AS] budget though, look at squidbillies, look at aqua teen hunger force, look at the eric andre show, and I would go so far as to say they put up more money to fund R&M because of how quickly it blew up

If you knew what the word meant you would understand that neither show is pretentious.

Yea I like get schwifty . I can help it. Get schwifty my nigga

Rick and Morty is a much better show.

The BoJack formula is getting stale. Was anyone surprised when, after the 11th episode of season 1 was the sad episode, and after the 11th episode of season 2 was the sad episode, that the 11th episode of season 3 was the sad episode? And they keep trying to up the ante, just making the characters shittier every season. I think they lose a lot of the comedy when they try to play profound (the laughless underwater episode being a good example). The best episode was actually Let's Find Out since it was (almost) free of all this forced drama, and played to the show's other strengths of pop culture and absurdist humor. Also a lot of the jokes on BoJack just fall flat.

Rick and Morty also falls for some of the sadcom bullshit, and it also feels forced (Rick randomly trying to kill himself didn't seem justified or set up very well). But almost all of the other episodes are free of this, and since it's a much more episodic show, there's plenty of individual episodes that stand out as being very funny and having great stories. Both seasons have at least 3 episodes that are excellent and you could show to somebody with zero experience in the show, which isn't something you can say often. Rick and Morty are also better characters than anyone in the cast of BoJack Horseman, sans Vincent Adultman.

They're both Reddit, but Rick and Morty is a better show.

I like 'em both, get fucked.

Rick & Morty is legit funny, Bojack Horseman is just relaxing to watch as depression-fuel.

>ironic-faux-depression/mental illness shit

Yeah because Bojack is completely free of that shit right?

mate.

Bojack horseman sucks so much dick, its ham-fisted sadboy :( garbage.

Rick and morty is hit and miss but on the whole pretty good.

Reddit movies are actually pretty well defined. It's a general term used to describe one of three different types of movie.

The first type is films that are popular among adolescent teens to young males who perceive themselves to be on the fringes of society. A common theme in these movies is alienation, nihilism and chaotic/glorified violence. Simply put, you could say that they are united by their nihilism. Characters like the Joker, Donnie Darko, Patrick Bateman and even Travis Bickle are relatable or ideal characters in the minds of these people.
Examples: Drive, Kick-Ass, Dark Knight, Scott Pilgrim

The second type is pseudo-intellectual and pretentious bullshit that pretends it's much more complicated than it actually is. These movies are designed to be actually really fucking simple, but still just complicated enough (or have a complicated enough twist) to make plebs feel clever when they watch it.
Examples: Inception, Fight Club, Idiocracy, Cabin In The Wood, Matrix

The third type is high-budget modern schlock. Stuff that's 'cool', 'awesome' or 'manly' on the most superficial and juvenile level. Shit that falls under the same category as "SHARKS WITH LAZERS!" or "MUSTACHED JETPACK FIGHTS!". These movies tend to be gory or comedic or bloated, or all three.
Examples: Guardians of the Galaxy, The Wolf of Wall Street, 300, Pacific Rim

All three types of films tend to be enjoyed and overhyped by fedora-wearing gentlemen, usually those who also frequent the website known as reddit.

Bojack can be much stronger but i agree with people saying it really needs to watch it's formula right now, Seasons 1 2 and 3 all followed the same structure.

You're a poopface retard

fuuuuu dose are some nide digets u got there

I don't know why you think characters have to be 'good' to be good. Vincent Adultman was a fucking child, of course he's going to seem 'better' than anyone else on the show. I don't know how you can compare actual fleshed out characters to a walking gag just because he's earnest by nature.

Rick and morty

I couldnt even finish s2 of bojack

I enjoy both, but I enjoy Rick and Morty a bit more.

For every weak episode there's one that's a lot stronger to hold it up, including for season 2.

The battery episode was lovecraftian horror turned comedy done really well and the subtle clues to when Rick and Morty were our R and M were subtle with the parasites and the subsequent episode.

Rick and Morty season 3 is going to be amazing because they finally wizened up and hired a bunch of female writers. The show has desperately needed a feminist perspective for some time now.

He's right you know

He could of picked better films. I don't even like Cabin in the Woods or Idiocracy but I don't think they're trying to appear remotely intellectual.

I've never seen Rick&Morty but everytime I see Bojack I feel like killing myself.

Can a horse ever achieve happiness?

>WATCH IT X
>Film

Watch it Chrissy

>Idiocracy

How can a movie with the line 'You talk like a fag and your shit's all retarded' be psuedo-intellectual and pretentious? Reddit is Futurama, Sup Forums is King of the Hill.

They are very different shows. Apples and oranges.

Simpsons isn't funny and never was. It hinges on the fact that you're American, otherwise it doesn't work unless you're stupid.
American Dad is the same thing. Bad show.
Futurama had some great episodes and a lot of shit ones.
Horse is for furfags and isn't funny.
Family Guy is utter schlock.

Rick and Morty is funny. Sue me.

t. don't watch television, only movies

I don't think anyone gives a shit what you think about Rick and Morty when you discredit The Simpsons like that. As an Australian who grew up watching The Simpsons every day, you're completely wrong.

>anglosphere cucks
lel
calm down your butthurt
or are you just shitposting as usual?

Does this look like the face of a shitposter to you?

I agree with most of what you said, but anyone that think R&M is funnier than American Dad (without specifying season 1 of RM only) needs to go back.
Most of Futurama is great too, faggot.

>season 1 of RM
S1 was unfunny crap
S2 was top tier with the exception of the space doctor penis and get schwifty episodes.

Sleep with one eye open you little bitch.

>All three types of films tend to be enjoyed and overhyped by fedora-wearing gentlemen

careful senpai your projection is showing

S2 was weak. Dan Harmon fucks up everything

It really is. Have you not watched it yet?

That's some stale pasta, OP

reddit response

>I'm simply explaining why the show is one of the few times where calling it reddit is a fair criticism
>fair criticism
>criticism

My maaaaan, any data on the new season?

Rick and morty

I never understood why people like reference humour so much but I guess it's just the antifunny.

>ask about a show
>le reddit le reddit le reddit le reddit lelelelele reddit do I fit in yet?
Sup Forums was a mistake

Bojack is awful

The purge episode is the worst episode of the show by far, the only other pathetically terrible episode is Interdimensional Cable 2

still doesn't make it better than Bojack Horseman

>Depression memes: the show

Mate, because pseudointellectuals on reddit love lording their pseudo intelligence over everyone else. They genuinely think they're of a different caliber than the retards shown in idiocracy. The entire movie is designed for pseudointellectual circle jerking.

>he hasn't filtered "reddit", or any of its variations, yet

You have only yourself to blame

Wait what, how do you filter shit

Bojack abuses of the depression crap and ends up being obnoxious as fuck, RandM handles it better but it's Reddit as fuck.
