How well do you know the US?

Why the fuck would anyone know your states as if they were countries if they are not map autists?
You could say the same about EU member countries
I think geographical knowledge is a meme, to be quite honest.
I'm pretty well-traveled. Since 2013, I've been to about 35 or 40 countries. A lot of people i meet overseas - especially Europeans - like to crack jokes about how Americans aren't good at geography.
I think it's stupid. Unless you also can demonstrate a knowledge of regional history and geopolitics, being able to spot a place on a map and tag its capital doesn't mean a thing. The same goes for knowing the Prime Minister or President.
If you're familiar with the country's history and politics and social movements, then you're informed. Just knowing its name and location is like knowing the name of a bird - you can identify it, but you don't know a thing about its reproductive habits, roosting tendencies, or mechanisms of flight.
You've just got a name.
No because they are countries. I was taught their location in Geography class, the same as the location of the US (not your states). Nobody teaches the states of other countries, only the states of themselves.
Florida, Texas, California, Alaska and Hawaii are probably the only ones everyone knows.
Once it gets down to about South Carolina and as west as West Virginia I stop really caring
the difference is America is huge and power is devolved to those states in a way that's greater than anywhere else. But you already know that and you're just trying to be a pain in the ass.
...
it's better than I thought I would do desu
they shouldn't show names of states you click on when you get a wrong answer
Kind of evidence
Where taught the states of America in your school? I wasn't. Their media is powerful enough for me to recognize some of them without the need to study them, but not all 50 of them, sorry.
>everything people know must be taught in school
it's impossible to not know most of them if you even consume a little American media
Aaah, yes. The classic "there's the same differences between states as there's between European coutries"
If you say so
do you know german federal states?
They actually believe this, so it's not surprising it comes out so often.
+10 points for fat fingers on phone
both comparisons of US states to countries and comparisons of US states to regions of other countries are retarded. German states are mostly a relic of the HRE with far less local power than US states. Germany is a unitary nation-state, the US is a union of many territories which do not have as much in common.
That doesn't make what he said any less stupid though. You could balkanize America into like five separate countries at most. Over half the states are just lines we drew in the ground to divide territory we bought or conquered with no real history or cultural identity outside of being part of the US, not capable of being countries on their own like say Bavaria could be.
Modern German states don't really have a lot to do with the HRE
Towards the end of the HRE the different German states had borders sort of like those today. There's also things like Frankfurt and other cities being their own states, which is a leftover from Imperial free cities.
How powerful are the german states? Can they pass their own laws even if they go against federal laws?
They can do that here
That's not possible in the US either you stupid weeb.
You're fucking stupid and that is an awful score

This lmao

HOWLING
t. Paradox grand strategy pro
The geographic size of your states means next to nothing
Explain the states that legalized marijuana then
i always mess up alabama and mississippi, and connecticut and massachussets
It means you're isolated as fuck and in most cases have almost zero contact with foreigners and other Americans.
The federal government could technically march in and shut down every dispensiary and lock up everybody who posesses it. Obama's attorney general just chose not to. That policy has continued under Trump and Jeff Sessions because it'd be political suicide to do it. So they're not legally *allowed* to do it under federal law and technically what they did was and is illegal, Uncle Sam just can't be fucked to do anything.
>implying that's a good thing
and you burgers call us scandinavians autistic
I didn't say it was a good thing. Ironically some of the more remote states are where all the Nordic immigrants moved to.
How many European cunts can the average American put on a map?
online.seterra.com
...
Ahhh yes Latvia and Lithuania are more relevant to the world than California and Texas.
because similar climate
I can unironically 100% those tests and could probably name most subnational regions too because of autism map simulator games. The average American can mostly just name most of Western Europe minus microstates, Russia, and Greece; plus wherever they muh heritage from.
exact same actually
They can but the feds can get ass blasted and drag them to the Supreme Court.
The fact that they got away with it means they CAN go against the fed. At least in some instances.

3 attempts to memorize Canada. Wish this site had more state divisions.

Not sure how to click on Luxembourg on my phone.
i'm technically half american so it wasn't too hard
Just remember mass has Cape Cid that juts out and the Pilgrims landed on before relocating to Plymouth and CT is to it's south and east of New York.

Easy.

ez
Too hard to click the tiny ones on a phone anyway.
OP here
I think I did pretty well.
I got all the relevant ones in any case.
It's not geographic size. US has 15 states more important economically (higher GDP) than Norway.
3 states have a higher GDP than Mexico
But they're under the same federal government and follow the same federal laws. There is very little incentive for Europeans to actually learn more in depth about specific states, as general knowledge will get you far enough.
People should know the basics of US geography though, it takes roughly 30 minutes to learn, everybody has that time.
try a harder one
And?
meh
Underrated post.
Back in the 1800's we were all about our state sovereignty.
Nowadays nobody even fucking remembers that the states are supposed to hold most of the power and just let the feds run everything.
Massachusetts is longer than Connecticut, just like their names
I know the German federal states as well as I would expect a German to know the American states, which is pretty well.
>Literally nobody knows about Kentucky.
It's official, we are the most irrelevant state in the most relevant country on earth.
Why are Germans so good at American geography?
Damn, this thread is probably the whitest America has ever been.
I only know you from a TV show which portrays you as all coal miners and methheads
europe is easy, aside from the micro states
Misclicked on Slovakia

How the hell did you get that bad

Well enough, I suppose.
I believe this is the fastest in the thread so far
Literally what is half the country right now
I improved my score to below 1:00
I was born in one of the reds too, so I really don't know.
You have to be memeing
