80s 'dad' rock because I'm old enough to be a dad of college aged kids.
50s-80s rock is alpha. It's about fucking, partying, and telling the world leaders to fuck off. It's when grunge and alt came along that nu-males with their feels started surfacing.
Alt rock comes from the 70s though.
What was called alt after grunge is mostly whiny beta rock.
Now this is the good kind of off-topic thread, unlike the constant torrent of "what does Sup Forums think of X" and literal Sup Forums-tier threads.
So.

A meme album of lo-fi music that's bretty gud.
Don't confuse prog rock with alt rock my fellow leaf
Sunny day real estate is good.
The Conan the Barbarian soundtrack obviously:
I'm not talking about progressive rock, though.
Alt rock first started to form in the late 70s in the form of rebellious punk bands who wanted to be different from the mainstream and thus adopted a sound separate from mainstream rock or punk, which they called an alternative to the mainstream sound.
Alt rock then proceeded to have a really large, tightly knit underground scene throughout the 80s that although wasn't popular at the time, was very influential to alt rock in the 90s.
Fuck fucking jewtube. Just say the damn band's name, faggots.
I love Twenty One Pilots!
this
Greatest redpill. The title says it all.
...
Prog-rock, blues, jazz, triphop, synthwave, good ol' rock n' roll, hard rock, southern rock, pretty much any kind of rock music, and good hip hop. I have a soft spot for the Beastie Boys, RIP MCA.

rock and metal. tool and mercyful fate are my current listenings.
That's how I found Nujabes. I'm not a huge fan but I'm still more sad that he died than a lot of other artists I liked. So much potential lost.
this right now;
I have a thumb drive for my car. Most people would shit their pants if they saw the variety. Jimi Hendrix, Cypress Hill, Hank, Hank Jr, Hank III, Chris Ledoux, David Allen Coe, Chopin, Gershwin, Metallica, Korn, etc...
Basically, I listen to everything.
Nah there's still a bunch of great alternative rock produced, you just have to avoid the nu-male hipster garbage from California and London. Though good alternative rock in the west isn't as plentiful as it was in the 80s and 90s. A lot of the good alternative rock today that keeps the innovative spirit of 80s and 90s American and British alt rock is Japanese.
