Level of stupidity

I actually use a steel rod, but this is actually a cool idea.

Would replace my steel rod.

(I live with my family, I gotta move out after saving up)

It's actually not a very bad idea.

It's a decent idea, not all school shooters are level headed enough to realize, only if they're good rubber ones though, I've seen plenty of cheap ones that barely work in my day....

They're probably cheap ones that'll do jack shit though so still stupid.

I don't understand why all these people with guns wouldn't mug people and just shoot up a school and get booked

thats actually kind of touching and nice.

fuck you OP

OP, pls explain. I also think this is a good idea.

I want a argument OP. What under 5 gram object would you have them keep in their pocket

>block door
>doesn't stop bullets
>bleeding to death on floor
>medical crew can't get in to save you

Blocks door, shooter can’t get in. No bullets to be caught. Can be removed by the people inside no problem.

>????

You think someone is stupid enough to hide right behind the door after they've blocked it?

You are aware that you can move the block too, right?

no you can't they're permanent

This

if it can stop someone from pounding the door in, you aren't removing it after you install it.

> Shooter fractures the door by riddling it with AR-15 rounds
> Kicks door in
> Little rubber stopper will still save me!

>shooter just punts it out from under the door...

>Buys you enough time to pull out your concealed weapon and shoot said shooter

Do you guys not realize that most classroom doors open outwards? A doorstop would hardly be useful

Or you could just carry, I don't know, a fucking gun and shoot the fucker dead before he does any damage to anyone else. Alas, actually helping others is a foreign concept to these people. They just want to FEEL safe and they can't do that with the big, scary boogeygun around.

/thread?

I dont know american schools but here they open inwards.

Who's going to sit there blasting a door to pieces like in some shitty action movie, you dumb shithead?

May be true but over here in the us, all of the schools I've been to have classroom doors that open outwards. Plus school shootings happen mostly in us, not so much other countries

No it's not and your a faggot for defending it.
2018 queers I swear

I'll be sure to use harsh language instead to a locked, thick wooden door. Maybe I'll ask the people inside nicely to open it, tell them I'm the police.

>Teenager carries a concealed in math class

There is a difference between a residential interior pantry door, and a triple hinged commercial fire door.
It's like trying to stop an 18-wheeler rolling away with a house brick

that type of stopper is hollow, maybe a solid rubber one would help, but bullets go through walls

*COUGH* *COUGH*

There are a few door stops sold by Lee Valley Tools which could be useful for such a task. This one could double as a toy for kids, to take the harsh edge off its utility.

I wouldn't trust my life to a glock 9mm and cover behind a classroom desk. I'd jump out of a 3rd story window before that.

>Buys you enough time to stab attacker in jugular with scissors

Or this one, which also comes in colours.

Then you should go ahead and jump out of a window anyway.

idk its coming from the same place as most CCW holders.

life is not a video game m8.

>yes

I'm wondering how many people here have actually be in a shooting situation, or are you all just talking out of your asses right now?

>just want to FEEL safe
kind of like exactly why guntards carry?

The odds of being in a school shooting are practically negligible. I honestly don't know why people give a fuck. There are over 150,000 schools in the United States, and we average one major shooting event every 2 or 3 years, with 10-20 fatalities.

It's a scary scenario, but it's honestly about as likely as literally any other catastrophe.

On average, 135 people die per year in accidents involving school buses, so the odds are significantly higher that you will be killed by a school bus than that you will be shot at school.

Calm the fuck down, and if you're really worried then tell your kids to be nice to the weird kid so that IF he decides to shoot up your school, he doesn't target you.

Like anyone is going to remember to grab that out of their bag in an active shooter situation

>carrying a lethal weapon
>only "feeling" safe
Are you retarded?

That's idiotic. I'm sure most schools have the common sense not to have doors swing open into hallways that could have people walking by instead of inward where most of the people are sitting in their seats.

In my school the doors were all recessed and had little micro-hallways to swing out into. Something about fire safety? I can't remember.

Doors in public buildings open outwards due to fire code.

Plus they all have regular locks.

This is fucking stupid.

What they said

I heard everyone who died that way used greentext too

If you have time to find and utilize a door stop, you have time to pull your Glock 19

>he doesn't know how wedges work.
m8 this is 2nd grade science.

I remember learning about the names of planets and growing beans in 2nd grade. I don't think we covered the coefficient of friction until, like, 10th grade.

Okay, here's an idea. We can put two doors in each room. One opens in, one opens out. That way we have one that can open easily for fires but another that can be blocked in case of shooters.

Or we can just have locks on the doors?

I've never seen this in the US

Nah, the door handle could still be shot off that way. Better to just have two doors.

>8th grader
>carrying a gun to school
What could go wrong?

With proper training, a high chance of nothing?

>door stop
>comes in festive colors to brighten up a school shooting

>we average one major shooting event every 2 or 3 years with 10-20 fatalities.
Yeah, if youre not popping off double digits who gives a fuck.

>Never met a 12 year old

Simple machines are physics 101

get it in vibrant orange so the shooter can spot it even easier, then kick or shoot it out of the way

>135 deaths from school bus accidents per year
>BAN SCHOOLBUSES
>200 deaths from peanut allergy per year
>BAN PEANUTS
>~6 deaths per year average from school shootings
>BAN GUNS

why the fuck would they hide behind the door?

>~6 deaths per year average from school shootings
in 1902. and make sure to exclude all other shooting deaths.

Ban Schools!

>Between 108,000 and 3 million incidences of guns being used in legal self defense
>BAN SELF DEFENSE

>Between 108,000 and 3 million incidences
Sounds like a reliable statistic. Only a 3600% margin of error.

Ferreal. If it was kicked hard enough under the door, most schools are fucking concrete and have windowless rooms, something that simple could honestly work. Sure he could shoot thru the door but like, why would you be near the door? Sure he could potettially take the door down or bust it down or shoot it down if he was packin enough heat, but the time and effort would still be a major deterrent. This time a kid got shot a couple times holding the door closed, he's critically injured but the shooter lost Interest, went to find easier prey.

Shooter knows it's a time game, he's got 15, 20 mins absolute max before he's gonzo, he's prolly gonna try other rooms. Sure he could get a book or something to dislodge the puck, but that's assuming he realizes what is holding the door, when he prolly thinks people are holding it or it's barricaded (which it should be as well)

Seems silly and simple but like, occams razor?

It's called standard deviation, sweaty

nap.edu/read/18319/chapter/1#R1

Varies by study

Pretty fucking huge no matter what you call it.

The lack of standardization across databases limits their comparability (NRC, 2005). The absence of clearly defined concepts complicates data collection and interpretation. For example, definitions of “self-defense” and “deterrence” are ambiguous (NRC, 2005; Weiner et al., 2007). There is no standardized method for data collection or collation, which prevents researchers from harnessing the potential power of data across multiple datasets.

>-------------

Estimates of gun use for self-defense vary widely, in part due to definitional differences for self-defensive gun use; different data sources; and questions about accuracy of data, particularly when self-reported. The NCVS has estimated 60,000 to 120,000 defensive uses of guns per year. On the basis of data from 1992 and 1994, the NCVS found 116,000 incidents (McDowall et al., 1998). Another body of research estimated annual gun use for self-defense to be much higher, up to 2.5 million incidents, suggesting that self-defense can be an important crime deterrent (Kleck and Gertz, 1995). Some studies on the association between self-defensive gun use and injury or loss to the victim have found less loss and injury when a firearm is used (Kleck, 2001b).

This user is right. Doors open outward for fire safety. It's to prevent people from piling up against a door that swings inward in a panic to get out and preventing it from opening.

I call bullshit. I know for a fact the doors at my school open in (but then again I'm at vt, so that could be a confounding variable lul)

Still doors in schools almost always go in, think real hard to both days you went to school, the teacher has the door propped open, and it's not hanging out in the goddamn hallway? That would impede the flying fuck out of traffic in a busy school, and not being able to open the door during a fire cuz of a crowded hallway or debris seems waaaaay more likely than a caved in ceiling or whatever preventkng the pulling open of a door?

Don't spout bullshit on /b faggot

Like I said, questionable reliability. No standardized criteria.

Damn you're dumb. Margin of error and standard deviation are two ENTIRELY different things

Gun fatalities (including accident, suicide, and homicide) are about 105,000-116,000 per year. At worst, gun violence breaks even with gun defense.

>pokes out the underside of door
>shooter pushes it out from under door

a fucking blunt

I don't know why its so hard for some people to understand more guns equal more gun deaths
>inb4 but muh car deaths. Guns have no utility except for killing, unlike cars, peanuts, whatever.

They usually dont go far enough to see from the outside I don't think, and again unless it's this dumbass Orange one lol, irk why he'd notice

Adrenaline is amped to shit, he's got other easier prey, after shooting the door and pounding for a second I think they'd prolly give up before thinking of getting s book or something to dislodge a doorjam right?

It's definitely not an end all be all but it could, potentially, deter him

>under 5 gram
Nigga you roll puss fuckin blunts

I always thought these looked like chocolate.

It's true I just tried this and I'm stuck inside this room, please send help

5 grams is over 1/8 of an ounce. You rollin' 1/4 ounce blunts, stud?

they open out at UCF
>everywhere is like my state
fucking retards both of you

>i didn't want to scare them
>so i gave them all a touchstone reminder that their lives are constantly at risk at all times
Great job.

those only work for when you dont want the wind to close open doors
it cant lock a door I have several in my house for the aforementioned reason but they cant hold a door closed if a person wants to get in, its ridiculously easy to open that
are ameriburgers this retarded?

Thats why you ride the short bus.

If a blunt isn't at least a q t's a fuckin joint pussy

sure kid

I never said I ate them, nigger. I just think they look like some weirdly shaped Swiss chocolate.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little shit? Ill have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and Ive been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and Im the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. Youre fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and thats just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little clever comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldnt, you didnt, and now youre paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. Youre fucking dead, kiddo.

>Illegal guns are already taken away whenever they're found
>Take guns away from legal owners
>Illegal guns still floating around en masse

Yeah, getting rid of guns will totally solve the problem. Not; There are more guns than people in this country. It's not happening, and there's really no need to be so goddamn scared about it.

The people that legally own guns are not the ones committing acts of violence with them, and legislation to make it harder to own guns legally doesn't take them out of the hands of people that own them illegally. And when you consider that your odds of being killed by an asshole with a gun are significantly lower than the odds of killing YOURSELF with a gun, to the point where that touted 11.9 gun fatalities per 100,000 people falls to less than 5 if you take out accidents and suicide, your fear is completely unmerited. You're more likely to get struck by lightning.

THIS!!!!!

Gud bait

You know they use that mysterious wedge technology to secure parked airplanes, right?
Yuropoor socialist edumacation ftl.

Tarmac is a little rougher than a tiled floor.

Lmao it got a bite didn't it?

Also, so that the hinges of doors are easily accessible for fire/emergency crews if they need to get in.
