Mentality

I've noticed something...

I think that people of slavic origin have some sort of global mentality thing going on.

What I imply is, whenever I had visited a slavic country, be it Poland, Slovenia or Bulgaria, I always felt like people are more sincere, albeit sometimes gray or not very talkative. It feels like Russia in every one of them in the way people behave and talk.

On the other hand, people, whom hail from germanic/anglo countries tend to put this retarded smile and pseudo-cheerfulness on their face whenever they see a stranger. This shit actually freaks me out way more than that gray slavic "idontgiveafuck" facial expression whenever approached by a newcommer.

Anyway, I think, I see similarities in the most general patterns of human behaviour between people of the same language family.

Anyone else noticed this?

Slavs are bro tier. There's a few in my town and they're great.

Pole/Ukro here, it's true. People always ask me if something is wrong because i always look kinda pissed or angry.

yup
the part about smiles i notice alot in the west
finns seem to behave the same way as us aswell

discussion of international culture belongs on

I agree. I come from Slovakia and I am currently studying abroad.

I noticed this as well

Pole diaspora here. I smile and I am genuinely happy. It's less fake than you'd imagine.

fuck off Mateusz

slavic mentality is heavily influenced by our political past.

so it's Sup Forums related

Indians tend to be very awkward when it comes to behavior towards strangers
If you go out and try to greet an Indian, 99 out of 100 of em will try to avoid eye contact and won't respond
I thought it was like this everywhere but when I went abroad for vacation I was very surprised because everyone was smiling at each other and it looked really weird 2bh, I'm much more comfortable in India where no one will try to greet you unless they actually know you

>go in the west
>everyone smiles
>meanwhile slavface.jpg
>"what's wrong user are you depressed you need some pills to make you happy again"

>user, smile please. We want to take a nice picture

I can't say I've noticed the same. People here are generally reserved, but it's not like everyone's an autist. Riding in a tram or bus, there's always groups of people talking and laughing while the rest sit quietly minding their own business. I wouldn't say we're gloomy people, it's just the way things are. People are also mostly approachable and polite and will gladly help you out if you ask them for directions for example.
I'll also never understand the Slav squat and tracksuit meme. It just doesn't happen here.

The thing is, I've been to Britain and sometimes felt alienated by Western verbal psychology, the way they talk and express emotions. It feels different and you are expected to smile like a retard else it is mistaken for being "angry" or weird. Also people don't go in details about their personal shortcomings during arbitrary conversations.

When I visited Poland, despite them being de-facto catholics by culture, I noticed that converstions go more Russian-way, lol. You can ocassionally whine to the taxi driver about your life problems, people don't fake smiles when interrogated.

It has nothing to do with orthodox/catholic culture, but with something much deeper.

>hay giuse, every notice how we are normal and others aren't?

That said, I must be a slav born into a germanic body.

>If you go out and try to greet an Indian, 99 out of 100 of em will try to avoid eye contact and won't respond
This is very diferent from what my friend said who traveled through India. His experience with Indians was the total oposite. He said he had to ignore Indians and just walk past them cuz they tried to talk to him, hug him or hold his hands all the time whenever he went.

...

Slavs smile if they're happy.

>being an autist incapable of smiling

I bet you dont make small talk with strangers at the bus stop either

I know 2 Ruskies, a Ukrainian and Serb well. They are invariably blunt, direct as fuck and seem really deadpan sometimes. It's refreshing as fuck tbf, brutal honesty is pretty rare quality here. Some of the easiest people to have a conversation with even if they come off as cold initially.

>I bet you dont make small talk with strangers at the bus stop either

you disgust me

How to induce panic in random people in poland:

Start talking friendly to them in elevator

Cheerfulness isn't a Germanic thing at all. The Anglos are always saying that Germans and Austrians are rude and the French are extremely rude.

>Anyone else noticed this?
+1, westerners are fakes

...

it's a picture of 2 western agents obviously

I always walk with dontgiveafuck.jpg or a meanfucker.jpg face, but I'm really a nice guy once you get to know me. I just don't feel like smiling to every asshole I meet. If I like you or you made a good impression, you'll see me smile. I think alot of slavs have this type of mentality.

>shitty weather we're having huh? did you catch the sox game last night? they're doing awful this season. oh thats interesting, I have an uncle in philly too. anyway, nice talk have a good day

Well, my friends from russia tell me that you don't smile when walking around there because being happy means you have some sort of wealth and means you're a target to be mugged.

Anyway, I'm polish and I guess this is true. The men in my family have always been fairly stern, and I don't smile when walking around. Never understood the idea of putting on a fake smile while you're walking around not talking to anyone. People interpret the neutral face as me being pissed off though.

This is true
I am also intruiged about the slav squat but i do see a lot of adidas tracksuit pieces
Mostly pants and shoes never the full set
Also our people in dalmatia are brown noses towards turists

It doesn't have to do with Germanics/Slavic division

It has to do with communism and liberalism

Communism at one point turned into a social darwinistic, corrupt, cynical, stripped of any values system and that I think sunk into peoples' heads. They didn't believe in anything, they didn't think it is worth trying to do anything, they didn't hold themselves to any standards, they weren't proud of anything and that made them closed inside

Liberalism on the other hand also promotes cynicism and nihilism, but at least it makes people believe in some shallow, very general values like openness, tolerance and it perceived itself as morally superior to communism, because it protected some rights and freedoms. And I think in contrast with communism, this is what made western people feel good about themselves which influenced their mood

Communism was : "Yes, we don't believe in any standards, we steal, we destroy, but what you're going to do to us?"

Liberalism on the other hand wants to hold people to certain standards, to appear as a system that has ideas for the better future

I don't believe in any strong similarities between Poles and Russians for instance, except the fact that they both drink vodka and have a similar language. But that's about that. Poles are more similar to Italians, Spanish and Irish

Close genetic ties. Plus, Russia had a military occupation of most Eastern European countries for about 50 years, in which there was considerable breeding between the Russians and those Slavic groups. I worked at a machine shop which employed many Ukrainians, Russians, and Poles, and they were pretty much identical.

Jesus that is cringey
Like i give af about you i dont even know your name
Mind your own buisness

>Didn't live in a Slav country till my 20s
>Russian-Pole hybrid
>Still walked around with Slavface.jpg

It's pretty interesting how even cultural conditioning from birth couldn't stop Slavface. Is it a developed hereditary trait to ward of predators? Or did I unwittingly pick it up from subconscious behavior analysis of my parents?

In regards to the British mentality, it stems from the
>keep calm and carry on
Meme. Good manners is very important in our interactions. And I find whining to the taxi driver really odd. It's none of his business and not his problem, its much easier when everyone gets along and things atleast seem fine and dandy on the surface.

DNA. Didn't live in a slav country so obviously not to ward off predators. Maybe picked from parents if they show the same face.

I agree with this, we don't make small talk to strangers for the most part unless they're
>taxi drivers
>old people
There's nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of peace and quiet

people would freak out
pure panic on their faces
they would thing you're a psycho and going to kill em

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I bet this false openness in western countries is only a product of the XXth century

I doubt Thatcher or Dickens were like that

...

Yeah mate I noticed this in Ukraine. Much prefer the sincerity to false smiling faces which I don't trust. With Slavs you know where you are.
>they like you they will be sincere and smile/shake your hand.
>they don't like you, they will tell you

InB4 'Ukraine' triggers anyone

Yes i agree
The only ones making chit chat at bus stops are old people

>who gives a fuck
>who is this loony talking to, must be insane
>if this nigga doesn't shut up...

Lol, I remember reading some meme by russian aristocrat visiting England in 19th century. He went to party and everyone were so silent and calm (all men kinda fell asleep while pretending to be deep in thoughts) he tried to cheer up the mood. Never was invited again. Very cold people he said.

Yeah but that's just cause they spend most of their time alone in an empty house. They enjoy having someone to converse with even if it's just for a few minutes.
Fuck I hope I die before I hit that level of old

...

The same thing is going on in Finland too.
When I was in Britain some Indian guy asked me if I was mad at him when I did not start to talk to him at the gym.
Our media always complains how stupid we are because we dont express our feelings the same way Americans do. For example when Americans say that they love something, it means that they like it but here in Finland it would be very odd to say that you love some sport or item. The world love is only used to describe your feelings to some person you actually love, not just like.

>RIP English grammary

Yeah bro i get you its the only reason i talk back
Because i know they have noone to talk to back home

We're much less smiley and open than the mainlanders atleast. Think there's even a fb or twitter page about it "Just British things" or something

That's probably because your friend is white

why does everyone in america smile all the time anyway?

i feel like i almost dont belong here.

We're not the only nation that sits like that are we? right? RIGHT?

I could never imagine myself saying that I love my bestfriend because I am not gay. I can only love a woman, I think :D :D

Every Slav I have ever met always looked like they had fifty years of communism written on their face. Like their people had gone through endless famine and forced to eat nothing but beats. Like they've lost all hope and are so tired, yet it has become normal for them, so they aren't that bothered about it anymore.

Alright, OP here.
I solidified what I wanted to say.

I don't know the reason, but I think that slavic people in general, regardless of their country of origin have verbal culture, which implies smiling only when you feel like it. If you had a bad day, you don't try to impress the stranger and fake a smile. But when you feel like smiling, you smile, even though it may sometimes be inapropriate too. Less empathic, but a more sincere verbal mode and it seems like it is hardwired. That's it. I think I nailed my thoughts.

We even have a saying in Russian: "Ulybka bez prichiny - priznak durachiny".

Literally: "A smile without a reason is a sign of stupidity".

They look like they'd be down for anal sex

We squat too... but for a different reason

Here at least literally no one just walks around smiling at nothing, that's insane. Neither do people passing each other on the street. I can't imagine this sort of shit goes on anywhere in the west unless it's some small town where everyone knows each other.
Here the only thing is that strangers might strike up a bit of banter with a sales clerk or someone they're sitting next to on public transport. Funnily enough I live in lelbourne and this has steadily decreased with multiculturalism.

Aahahahahah :D :D
>designated

Eastern europeans are real, theyre not fake like westerners usually are.

...

Central and Eastern European countries aren't as rich as the West and lived under oppresive ruling systems for the last few decades. I think it made the people more careful and maybe a bit bitter. Western Europe on the other hand is rich and more democratic, the people there are spoiled liberals who think they are special happy snowflakes who need to save others.

Im from Yugoslavia.

I have been in Baltic States for many years also. Even though they are not totally Slavs they have similar treats over there. Some are pure Russians there.
Baltics though are not as Slavic as Russians, but still have way more slavicness than Western Europe.

Was living in Lithuania for many years, They way someone moved was enough for me to tell if they were Baltics or Russians. Russians also are more laid back and was always more friendly.

Not trying to make this into a fucking debate between soviet countries, please avoid this shit here, thanks.

Western Europeans will never ever ever understand real Slavic mentality.
They will never understand how to renovate things, how to repair shitty items, or how to renovate or build a house with your grandfather with very little money.

Or simply things like, renovate a room, put in new floor, paint it, do electrical work, fix lamps, install furniture, covers, ceiling, etc etc etc.

In western europe ofcourse there are people who are very handy and talented with these things.
But in Slavic country everyone can do these things from the age of 14 years old.

All western europeans understand is political differences, leftist policies, socialism, how to order take-away-food and how to buy shitty products in a supermarket.

Slavs are fucking great, and if you dont squat with adidas sweatshirt and have a panbag, then fuck you.

That's a nice way to put it

I fucking hate it when they go all "I love you mommy" every 5 minutes in their shitty movies.

It's the years and years of bullshit people are waking up from that gets you the face.

Smiling feels unnatural to me

The face probably has something to do with westerners no living in shitholes
Just the other day our tickets for the bus went up 60% in price, you don't see that in developed countries

As an Anglo Pole, maybe I inherited these traits. Im not too friendly with people until I know them and I don't smile easily. The British can be very superficial and I've never trusted that.

You lie Bulgaria you're EU you're super rich bathing in euros.

Kek

Westerners have a culture of being fake happy and patting each other on the back for the smallest shit, trying to make everone feel special.

>fat people
"You are such an amazing curvy woman, good for you!"

>minorities
"Wow your culture is sooo interesting, much better than whites!"

>mentally and physically crippled
"You are such a beautiful and interesting individual, true beauty lies inside!"

etc.

Gubmint doesn't give us free stuff though, it's still a shithole here, just with the occasional air conditioned bus and electronic time table for buses
If you want to live a nice life, you have to move to western europe, but it's both expensive and filled with kebab
Maybe the USA...

is this you

youtube.com/watch?v=3KSJY0c8QWw

That's crazy, how can people even afford this?

Pretty certain it's to do with prolkult.

What's I've noticed aswell is that while a lot of westerners do have this "fake smile" attitude, the one place I know which is just how you described Slavic countries is Northern Ireland. Might be all the conflict and poverty but they walk around angrily glaring at everything, but once they talk to you they're perfectly friendly

it sucks because even when working at my shitty job, i have to smile

if i dont smile customers are like "why arent you smiling?" and some even complain

why the fuck would they expect someone working a tedious job to smile? oh yes, im so happy doing this bullshit for you

>petrol prices go up
>ticket prices can't stay the same, proles!
>petrol prices fall down
>ticket prices aren't related to petrol, proles!

I blame the proles.

It's nice if you are smiling but if you don't are you are still polite I don't see the problem.

I'm polish but my family was all born in america. I still hold these same traits.

>On the other hand, people, whom hail from germanic/anglo countries tend to put this retarded smile and pseudo-cheerfulness on their face whenever they see a stranger.

Wut? Americans do that.. I only smile at strangers when there's something to smile about.. Like when you're on the train and they call a delay, and the people in the wagon give each other knowing looks and smiles like 'Jesus Christ again with this shit? How hard can it be to keep trains running...'

Knowing how to repair and rennovate stuff comes from poverty. Why would you learn how to fix something when your parents can just hire someone to do it or by a new lamp. Slavs used to be peaceful farmers so of course they have inventiveness by nature. I grew up on a farm and I had to do a lot of actual work when I was young, so I know these things too. The loss of that inventiveness is more related to urbanization and wealth.

By buying a card instead of tickets if you have to travel often. You could also just not buy a ticket and avoid the people who check.

The reason they increase the price is because a lot of people don't pay. It didn't cost much anyway dunno what that fag is whining about.

You kind of are... A Russian guy on Sup Forums told me it's mostly because the ground in former Soviet states is dirty, and there are usually no benches or other furniture on the street unles people dump old sofa's...
>pic related
This stuff is everywhere. No need to squat...

We slavs have some special soul unique to us. We may look cold, but we are more emotional than most other people. We slavs have some special bond.

>gas prices go up
>gas station prices go up
>gas prices go down
>oy vey goyim, these were always the prices

This is almost 100% an American problem though... If you smile in this country like Americans in shops smile they'll literally think you're mentally ill. American shopkeepers/staff are fucking annoying.

Is this English?

In post-soviet countries these benches are usually occupied by gypsies or homeless.

And those who aren't are dirty, sticky or destroyed.

There are exceptions, but it's just in the very good parts of town. The ones where you have police officers walking every hour.

>if i dont smile customers are like "why arent you smiling?" and some even complain

Holy shit, that's fucked up.

>We slavs have some special bond.
Come back Crobro.
Help us defend our lands from the real enemy once again.

Just like in 1389? That went well...

>The thing is, I've been to Britain and sometimes felt alienated by Western verbal psychology

Britain is a special case m8, they're complete pussies in their personal and public lives and you can tell by the way they speak. They always beat around the bush and never directly say something if it's negative, they'll take a paragraph to express something like 'Your idea is bad' and couch it in a thousand different ways because they're afraid of making you feel bad.

Well, I'd rather die standing than live crawling, as the saying goes.
No matter, with or without your help, we will fight the horde. You are always welcome to join.

Japs are the same, maybe it's something that all islanders have in common

>like a finnish
Fucking poo-in-a-loo tier english

i was giving no fuck at all but then i noticed you are right.
so yeah.
yeah.

carry on brother.

You think its fake because you're autistic.

Protip: It's not fake. It seems unnatural to you because it is unnatural to you.

>Culture values friendliness and cheerfulness.
>How horrible! We should all be angry niggers.

>but we are more emotional than most other people
this right here. Westerners are like robots compared to others, especially to the south/east.

What you are noticing, my dear Ruskie friend, is called cultural behavior.

>In post-soviet countries these benches are usually occupied by gypsies or homeless.

We get very little gypsies because giving money to beggers/panhandlers goes against Dutch greedyness... Homeless are not allowed to sleep on the street, so they tend to wander around rather than stay in the same place.

>And those who aren't are dirty, sticky or destroyed.

We are very ordnung-oriented though, so they'd get cleaned and fixed.

>There are exceptions, but it's just in the very good parts of town. The ones where you have police officers walking every hour.

We don't have much difference between the good and bad parts of town, and you'll see more police in the bad parts than the good ones.

I actually cannot even squat like you see the Slavs in the pics do. Either I set my feet fully flat, and almost fall backwards, or I sit like the Slavs while on my toes/front of foot. Can't squat like a slav with flat feet..
