Buy cheaper food, but you americans don't know how to buy cheap food

Cooking =less time for anything

Ramen for every meal.

Youtube

I know its old fashioned, but someone gifted me this book for christmas and it makes it very easy to make lots of very delicious staples from scratch, saving me boatloads. They have recipes for literally any kind of ingredients you can buy.

Also, watch your food waste, make recipes with things you can eat multiple times, don't be afraid to use your freezer.

I spend maybe 80 dollars a week on food for me and my wife. We learned to cook with that book and our meals are better than they used to be for way cheaper, because we dont need to order out or get prepared food.

"200-300 a week on food"

wow that's fucked. I spent less than 20 a week on food. Honestly just learn to cook up a load of veg and then add a sauce at the end to make it into chilli or curry or stir fry or Italian. Done.

>300 a week on food
lmao what the fug

Cool! I’ll check it out

Watch youtube videos.

Cook simple stuff like Chicken breast, veggies, pasta, potatoes, steak, eggs, bacon, etc.

How the fuck are you spending 300 dollars? Groceries (not in bulk) usually cost me like, 40 dollars (though I shop light)

Britfag here, so some of my advice may only really be relevant here.

Freeze everything you can. Meats, pre-sliced bread, bags of precut vegetables, bags of precut onion are great

Avoid things that are going to go bad quickly like fresh vegetables, easily bruised fruit, avocado, stuff like that

Eggs are great, you can scramble them in the microwave. Rice is awesome.

Just get creative and take inspiration from online recipes and work out a weekly meal routine. Invest in a row of spices if you want to keep things flavourful.

That's about it.

>How the fuck can I learn recipes and save more money.
Ask on /ck/. Friendly alcoholics are waiting to provide information.

Im 19 living with my parents and I only pay around 200 a month on bills and I’m making about 22$hr.

WTF, freezing onion? Also buying it precut, how lazy are you?

Onion is a root vegetable meaning you keep it intact in a dry dark place and it will keep for months but store them away from potatoes.

You can buy bags of precut onion.

I usually chop my own veg but with onions I make an exception. Virtually all recipes call for it and cutting the onion is often the first step. I can reach in the freezer, pour some out into the pan/wok, there's zero waste, it's quicker and it's a lot cheaper per lb compared to loose onions. Plus nothing goes bad.

I know it's not as fresh and no doubt has a few preservatives, but in a taste test I can't tell the difference so I let it slide.

oats potatoes and rice

i spend like £40 a month and i'm a 200lb man

>200-300 a week on food

Stop eating so much, fatty.

I am fairly well off. I spend about $75 a week. Could probably get by on $50...and this is in Canada, significantly more expensive than the US.

Invest the spare money while you have it. When you move out, getting by on that will leave you with very little to put away.

>200-300 a week
Fucking hell it costs me like $15 a week, buy cheaper shit faggot

Don’t learn recipes; learn how to cook. Start with sauces. If you can make sauces properly, you can cook just about anything (that isn’t baking anyway). You’ll learn about flavor profiles, seasonings, what you can substitute, what you can’t, and the rest of the basic skills. Alton Brown, the Good Eats dude, wrote a couple books about doing that (not for sauces specifically, that’s my own advice). Read them.

You simply cannot into math. Whole onions cannot cost more than processed onion on a per weight equivalent basis.

Learning to cut an onion or anything properly takes 5 minutes and you'll never forget it. It'll also have the side effect of you not looking like a baby adult.

Nigga you lazy. Frozen veggies are nasty

buy bags of potatoes, bags of rice, bags of pasta/ramen, get some ketchup some soy sauce some vegetables some beans. EASY & CHEAP

You need some veggies my man

>Being this autistic over onions

Now I remember why I don't come here often.

If i could spend 200-300 a week on just food alone i would be happy. I have to live off 250 and its not so bad, i can't have any fun whatsoever with it though. I rely on that shit being cheap number one. Then I get one fish set, one chicken set, one hamburger set, one week of pasta and I am a-o-fukin-kay for dinners. A vegan week option isn't so bad when you are also eating lunch meat sandwiches. Mexican is actually really expensive and I don't get it alot but I would eat all mexican if I could so I don't have to worry about the details of variety. As for chinese forget about that shit, just have the spaghetti o's.

Op here. This sounds so obvious, Im just so fucking lazy to prepare my own food.

I shall go buy potatoes and rice and then I’ll google the next steps!

Lmao, why are you so caught up on this guy who likes to buy precut onions?

>Implying you know shit about onions

Start with chicken and onion and learn to caramelize them both properly.
I use a high temp oil for this, the pan has to be searing hot

You must be a fat tub of lard. My wife and I are fat and we spend $225 a month on food. You must eat out 3 meals a day.

>implying onions

Literally just pointing out how you could save money and have better food. Buying anything processed for you is the most millennial thing you can do.

>wow look at all this time I save buying shitty left over shredded cheese and veggies

Learn to cook simple Asian food... with rice, noodles, healthy ang cheap to make.

Op, cut the animal protein, its expensive and give you cancer. no more meat / fish. cut the dairy, same as meat, expensive and you'll get cancer.
buy local veggies, Short Circuit, you can have a whole and big basket of veg/fruits for 50$

YOU CAN'T JUST EAT POTATOES AND MEAT

>curry
Terrorist spotted

www.budgetbytes.com
no need to thank, shes even got spice rack cheapos down too. i cut my food budget in half from this site. You just can't be a lazy fuck and put in a little time and effort

Holy fuck okay you made me laugh.

gg

>ignore posts made by woman and and or fake men

you won't

>Whole onions cannot cost more than processed onion on a per weight equivalent basis.

Actually yes, precut frozen onions and veg cost less that fresh.

Also if I want half an onion for a recipe I just used the exact amount from frozen I don't need to throw away half a fresh onion

Not consuming adequate animal based proteins will leave you deficient in many elements.
Deficiencies lead to acute failures

Nigga what you eatin'?

focus on entres get mac n cheese and instant potatoes for sides they cheap... canned and frozen veggies can be heated in a 1 quart pot with 1 inch of water abouve the veggies for like 10 min's on med/high heat ... season to taste (you'll learn)....

Chicken, rice, and broccoli bro

you retarded fuck. go vegan you'll see

dubs check and great advice, paw paw could use a strong thinker in the farm!

budgetbytes.com

i used the shit out of that site when i was a poor fag. enjoy

200-300 a week?

>200-300 a week on food

How?
I rarely even actually do any cooking and I only spend about 60

300 dollars feeds my wife, My 3 kids, and I for 2 weeks. 3 squares a day. Wtf are you buying?

I get flour tortilla, cheese and beans. Eat every meal. Also Ramen.

I've tried less than 40€/month, it's doable but dishes are a bit limited so I've decided to allow myself to use about 90€/month on food.

ramen is more expensive than it may seem

Thats only because your currency is worth half as much as US dollars

Dis nigga never tried japanese curry. Tastes way less intense that durka curry and it keeps for weeks

>less than $20 a week
That's some hardcore poorfaggotry, man. Where do you live?

stock your whole house with pizzas and nothing but pizzas, sauce and pizza toppings in the pantry, the rest will fall into place...no substitution.

ROFLMAO

Solid recipes wether you’ve got gas or electric. Helped me get into cooking daily and becoming a better cook

Ramen is literally 25¢

What the fuck are you talking about?

200-300 a week? US Dollar? I spend maybe 300€ a month on groceries and not just cheap stuff.

Why don’t you freeze the half onion you fucking idiot.

1. think of something you like to eat
2. Find a recipe ,preferably on youtube, that doesn't look too hard
3. acquire ingredients
4. follow the vid
???
5. PROFIT. Impress your friend by your master cooking skills when in fact you can't cook for shit but at least you're actually cooking unlike most idiots who couldn't even boil and egg to save their life

Sup Forums has a food board? That's wild

Or let water burn

Give us an example of what you buy in a week.

I spent $200 a month.

>buying precut veggies
Get a proper knife and cut yours fresh idiota. Fresh is always better. ultimately taste comes from the quality of your ingredients, so don't use shit ingredients

Sup Forums is more than Loli porn and fedora wearing virgins

If you are only cooking for 1 you don't save money cooking, you save money by eating leftovers.

The real shit is expensive, but instant ramen can not compare to how savory and delicious ramen you make yourself is

I buy mostly fresh fruits and vegetables but some things I buy frozen, for example spinach. When you buy it fresh it is either way to much or the small portions are ridiculously expensive.

Just make your own microwave meals. Who cooks one portion anyway. I know I can't. Make a big casserole of spaghetti sauce, have a feast with friends, freeze the rest to use a second time or use to make something else, fe. pizza.

Instant ramen is shit, go to a ramen restaurant and try real ramen.

I must admit I also buy spinach frozen. With added cream even.

One of the basics of living by yourself

Also a britfag. What the fuck is wrong with you? Prechopped onions are 33% more expensive at Asda and that was the smallest price difference I could find. Tesco it's almost 100% more expensive to buy them prechopped. Like the other user said, learning to chop an onion properly takes about five minutes and chopping a whole one takes less than two minutes... Your math is entirely off but worse you're wasting valuable freezer space with onions which can be kept under your sink for a few months...

Sucks to be you

>Chopped onions cost more than whole.
whole onion .59 per pound.
Sliced onion $2.49 for 8oz.

Here's one for you.

Fucking fag

OP tell us what you spend it on

I buy 2 kg of onions for 4€ and they last at least 4 month. Of course you have to sort some out that have gone bad, but thats still much cheaper than buying pre chopped or frozen onions and they taste better. If you need just a half onion, you put the other half in plastic wrap and use it the next day. Same with potatos, 5kg for 3€ and they last at least 2 month.

fat fucker

A couple of suggestions OP.
1. Meal Prep your lunches at least. There are loads of ideas out there on Reddit and Youtube. Google until you find one you like and make 4-5 days worth. Switch each week. If you worked in London like I do that will suddenly save you about £30 a week. If you get good at it you'll realise you can feed yourself better food nutritionally as well.

2. Learn 6 dinners which are easy for you to purchase the ingredients for. I try to go for simple meals on weeknights which take about 20 minutes to half an hour to make. I also like to vary which meat is being used. Things like chicken breast, minced beef, shoulder of lamb, minced pork are all good choices in the UK but you'll have to figure out what's good where you are.
3. Buy smart. Keep an eye out for discounts using supermarket comparison shops. I've got two big ones on my walk from home to the station so I check the offers every few days online and go to the best. Bulk buying is usually about as good as this.
4. Learn to eat simple. This is a harder point and took me a few years to get right. A lot of people say Ramen away but you'll become malnourished and sickly on Ramen alone. An example. A big bag of rice doesn't cost much and if you invest in a pressure cooker or a pressured rice cooker you can make it in a few minutes. Some pork loin you picked up on discount can be chopped into 100 calorie pieces (it's good amount for most things) can be frozen and defrosted when you need it. Now if you learn how to use herbs and spices all you need is that cheap rice, cheap meat and a few cheap veg and you've got a quick, easy, tasty, healthy and cheap meal.

Exactly, the frozen onion user is an idiot.

First learn the type of foods, learn to know what type of food your body craves, as it is different from time to time, get whats available of that type your body now craves. And no, sugar is not a food.
Think about, fruit, vegetables, meat or fish, grane type food, and milk egg cheese.

Holy shit, 2-300 a WEEK!?
If you want honest advice here's this
>big pack of Tyson Chicken Patties:$20 for 40
>Tortillas : $3 a pack
>Lettuce, Shd . Cheese: $6, $8
>chop up the chicken after cooking it
>Make a wrap
>Add whatever you want

I do this and eat only one wrap a day (I could do two if I wanted) , @ Uni so dinner is "free" but I typically don't eat it,and only drink water.

Ez

Even if I had to buy every meal, already done for me, it'd be around $60 a week.

Where the fuck do you live?
I cook about 6 times a week, with the occasional dessert here and there, and bread.
I love cooking so I do it a lot.
About 5 times meat a week. I need those animal proteins, get fucked, vegan soyboys.
I spend 40€ on food alone, not to mention ketchup/bbq sauces or some decent spices, herbs or ingredients here and there.
My cooking is a bit more detailed than "slap it into pan, add oil, salt, pepper, curry", so it's not cheap.
Different types of onions, garlic, different potatoes... etc.

Cooking takes time but hence I make every meal worth its time.

>you can impress your friends by for once in your life not looking like a fucking beta who grew up with mommy taking care of everything for you
Needing a service provider to pick out your meals and deliver the ingredients... k
