Art Decade and Subterraneans are so damn good.

Yeah a literal 10 and best Bowie album by far

Is it just me or is weeping wall the worst track on the album?

um, well, low's whatever and all, but uh, y'know

That wouldn't even be saying much
Its still a great song

when compared to the others, yeah
only two good songs from that one. Do you really think that it's better than Lodger, "Heroes", or Low?

I would say station to station is better than lodger and heros but not low

this

...

"Heroes" isn't an overrated album, side 2 of both Low and Heroes are fantastic.

I would say that he did achieve what he wanted, at least in his coked out mind with Low and not Station to Station. StS still has a commercial touch for me, and has for me, only two good tracks; Station to Station and Word On A Wing.

>“With Bowie’s guitar and Buckmaster’s cello accompanied by synthesisers and some of the earliest drum machines, the compositions were strongly influenced by Kraftwerk’s latest album Radio-Activity, released the previous month. The emerging soundtrack incorporated funk-styled instrumentals and slower, more ambient pieces, including a number called ‘Wheels’ and an early version of what would eventually become the Low track ‘Subterraneans’. However, the score was destined not to see the light of day. “When I’d finished five or six pieces, I was told that if I would care to submit my music along with other people’s...” Bowie recalled later. “I just said, ‘Shit, you’re not getting any of it.”
The soundtrack that he had worked on for TMWTE would've been wonderful.

His '00s and '90s work were much better.

>care-line
>care-line
>care-line
>care-line riding me
>Shirley, Shirley, Shirley, own

I didnt say Heroes was overrated. I was just saying I find station to station better. But now that I think About it it has been a while since I've listen to heroes so I'll go re-listen to it

I like Station to Station, but calling it his best album would be a stretch, his most important one for sure, but not the best one.
give The Buddha Of Suburbia a shot too.

I know it's not his best work. But it is for sure in his top 10

>top 10 lists
yeah, I don't really care about that, they all have a personal touch don't they. Anyway, what's the difference between you and a music journalist if you keep ranking albums? You know what, just enjoy the music, doesn't matter if you like Station to Station or even The Laughing Gnome.

On Station to Station, I don't really don't like Golden Years and TVC15. But still it's a good link between his style in Young Americans and Low.

Ranking albums is just a way to make shit easier to talk about. Sure you can like whatever you like about david bowie but ranking things just makes it easier for new listener to get a good grasp of his work.

>only two good songs
what did he mean by this?

>makes it easier for new listener to get a good grasp of his work.
no it doesn't. Listening to music and judging it for yourself makes one 'get into music'. Just don't be like that silly person who talks about Heathen or any of his later albums as 'the best thing he's done after Scary Monsters'

If you want to discuss about Station to Station:
I wanted the album to sound more like the title track did, and not like Golden Years.
youtube.com/watch?v=A8u8mODGOlg
Though I do get why his voice sounds emotionally detached in Wild Is The Wind or even Stay, he did a better job in capturing that effect in Low(which are in a way connected to each other)

>Ziggy Stardust
>Station to Station
>Low

as long as you think one of those three is his best you're not wrong

how can you like the repetitive, boring and obviously commercialised song Golden Years. Station to Station and Word On A Wing are the only songs that sound like a 'dark album capturing Bowie's cocaine dilemma'.

You're forgetting Stay, my man.

Hunky Dory > Ziggy Stardust
:^)

yes it does. Bowie has like almost 30 albums under his name and making a top 10 lists makes it so that listeners know where to begin and if they want to they can go explore his other stuff. I'm not saying that you should only listen to his top 10 but it make its easier to get into his music

>that opening Speed of Life riff

Reminds me of the best time

Bowie you genius

great argument. And on what basis are you making these lists? The way you got into Bowie, or albums that you love, or the ones that received the highest rating by your favourite critic. Are you the same person who said that he didn't make anything worthwhile after Let's Dance? I thought this discussion was about albums with no mediocre track, and that you want to discuss his albums. I replied to you with my opinion on why StS is weak, and what sounds absolutely lovely for me. There is no need to post your 'TOP 10 ALBUMS YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO' like a wannabe music critic here. Face it, you don't want to 'discuss' his music you just want to score hipster points by calling albums that aren't very popular on this board, his best work.

Hunky Dory has better lyrics(especially The Bewlay Brothers, Quicksand), I can agree on that.

you should definitely listen to the '71 outtakes, I think they have the original Shadow Man song.

my aim was never to gain hipster points. I was just saying that a top 10 list could be a good introduction to him. But i Should correct myself on that. What I meant to say is that there are essential bowie albums and station to station is one of them. And i'm basing this on what i've listened to from him. you can't tell me that pin ups is an essential bowie album

>you still aren't discussing the album, which I believe was your aim

You haven't been reading properly this entire thread. in this post You say I called it his best album which I didnt. then I said it is in his top 10. to which you start talking about station to station and saying top 10 list are useless. I replied with

great and I replied to you with my opinion twice, do you still want to argue over a pointless topic on a shitty board?

yeah im tired of it too. So what do you want to talk about?

I wanted to talk about Golden Years. The track obviously had a commercial touch, and he did perform (lip sync) it on The Soul Train. Station to Station would've been a very insightful and amazing album into the idea of lost David Bowie. If the whole album would've followed the style of Station to Station and Word on A Wing, it could've overshadowed Low.

Also I heard, Inchworms was an inspiration for Ashes to Ashes, can't really find a correlation myself, but eh

bowiewonderworld.com/transcripts/bbc1starspecial200579.htm

Yeah I agree. It felt like he made it so that he can get a hit and wasnt being truly honest with himself as he was on low. I also think he shouldn't have done a cover on an album that should been him truly opening up about himself

there were talks about him getting inspired by Nina Simone's '74 album, and making Young Americans. StS still has a link to Young Americans, must be something personal like Lady Grinning Soul in Aladdin Sane. Actually Wild Is The Wind would've sounded perfect on Aladdin Sane.

TVC15 in my opinion would've sounded way better if it was done by Iggy Pop. There's also this 'emotionally detached' style that I think he captured perfectly with Low, didn't really feel that Station to Station. Anyway, StS and Low are both correlated so it doesn't matter. The TMWTE soundtrack should've been released.

It's absolutely better than those albums. Every track is great which I can't say for the others.

i don’t get it

This man has the right idea.

This is a perfect album

The perfect album

...

really wish the ambient instrumentals were mixed along with Side A. It's too fucking polarized
