Is the rule really in place for the benefit of anybody but MJK's bloated ego? I don't buy the argument that it detracts away from the experience or distracts other people, because most concert goers do not hold their phone up the entire time and only intermittently use them to take pictures and/or videos. It just seems like an ill-conceived rule.

Well the rule is obviously for him. Correct me if I'm wrong but he still gets nervous for his concerts right? That's why he wears sunglasses in every one of them? I mean, just show the man some respect and put your phone away.

this has always been the policy at Tool or APC shows. If you aren't familiar with the rule you probably aren't familiar with the music either and deserve to be thrown out because of it. Last Tool show I went to the guy next to me thought Forty Six and 2 was Right in Two. Give me a break

Hypothetical: what if they have actual cameras instead? I don't quite understand the hyper aggressive attitide towards phones at concerts. I wouldn't even pull out mine excepting checking for messages and phonecalls from my senpai but that isn't the point.

Cameras don't bug me, you hold a camera in front of your face, its not in anyone elses.

Cellphones people hold in the air, obscuring the view of people behind and usually with a bright ass screen facing back making it an even more prominent distraction in a dim venue.

I fucking hate that shit and now bring a roll of Mentos with me to every show. Anybody holds up their phone to film in front of me (a quick picture I can deal with, but not filming) I ebntertain myself by trying to bean their phones screen with a hard candy. Usually I can get the people standing next to me to join in too.

Maybe because Im a pretty intimidating looking dude but no one has ever tried to start shit with me over it

I worked security for them and they're strict about this policy. MJK gets really pissed and he'll even call people out for it.

At least when Neutral Milk Hotel asked for no photos they didn't kick people out of shows for doing it anyways, they just looked extra annoyed.
