How was living in the 1995-2000 era ?

I was born in 1996 and never got to experience it

What exactly do you think was so special about this period of time?

You watched TV all day long instead of browsing the web.

That's pretty much it.

Skateboarding was cool for a brief moment in time.

The time before Internet was a thing, before 9/11, before any mass shooting, when you didn't had all the commodities you have for granted today.

>Golden age of rap and hip hop. Also some good rock and alternative music from this time.
>"dotcom boom" where any new company literally that had "dot com" at the end of its name could get immediate funding and its stock would go through the roof
>Bill Clinton was a pretty fun president. Lots of stuff always going on in the news
>Not a great time to get laid, since girls were going through a cultural prudish time period

Kind of a lot like now come to think of it, except substitute cryptocurrency for dot com and Trump for Clinton.

nostalgia is death user. we look back to these days fondly because we know our time as the young rebel maker generation is over.

alot easier to get on an airplane. and they were bigger too. they don't even fly the 747 in America anymore.

It was pretty cool. Got an N64 in '96 and me and my older bro got to play Mario 64, Goldeneye, and Ocarina at launch, got a Dreamcast for Christmas '99. The President got a blowjob from a lady and had to do a special announcement on Nickelodeon to make sure all the kids knew about it.

Skateboarding games were literally some of the best video games OF A GENERATION.
THEY KICKED ASS AND THEY HAD A FUCKING AWESOME SOUNDTRACK. IT WAS AMAZING.
also pogs were a thing. They were like fidget spinners only they were cardboard circles with pictures on em.
Cartoon Network and Nickolodeon were about 99 billion times better than they are now.
Uhhh... Oh yeah, AOL was the only way to internet for a while..
The hairstyles were fucked but then the hairstyles these days are even worse by comparison. Fucking feminists and their stupid pink haired faggotry.
What else... Hmm... Oh we rode bikes. If you didn't have a mongoose your parents didn't love you.
That's all i got.

I lived by the countryside and near a forest, and we always went outside to play. I had a Mega Drive and then a chipped Playstation later on, both of which were awesome. Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network were at their peak. The internet was more of a novelty at that point and fuck me do I wish it had stayed that way.

>when you didn't had all the commodities you have for granted today

Yeah, I remember having to hunt deer for dinner and chopping wood to keep me warm in 1995.

that was the only truly golden age of electronica and LSD was popular. this was all the real LSD, made by the SAME man, who is currently serving two life sentences about 15 miles away from me in tucson. he produced like nearly all the LSD in the US up until he got busted.

I'm a Britbong born in 1980. Was great before internet and 9/11. Music was ace. The feel-good factor seems to have disappeared and now I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe.

Source please.

the frist one is axabe or something like that the second one im assumeing moonfox

>Year 2000 was a huge novelty and people
capitalized on it like they did figit spinners.

>Cheerios used to have year 2000 pennies in the box for some reason.

>People were pretty worried about Y2K.

>Beanie Babies and Furbys were things people actually wanted.

>Harry Potter was starting to become a thing.

>Pokemon was insanely popular.

>The CGI in the Star Wars special editions looked passable back then

> People actually wanted to see The Phantom Menace

We didn’t realize how awesome it was until George Bush ignored the warnings surrounding 9/11, then the economy tanked and security measures exploded across the world and expensive wars began.

During those times it was great until like 98 when pop stars and boy bands took over.

So was razor scooters

From a 10/11 years old perspective that was the time of yoyos, good anime on toonami, TRL was big with Carson, robot wars, very limited internet usage (ebay/printing pics of my waifu for my binder), dodgeball, Burger King 99 cent Happy meals days, Gameboy color Pokemon, and just a general feeling of safety.

pretty good, spent my days watching cartoon network whilst battling cancer and missing out on school

Mongoose with grinder pegs!!!!

it was a good time, 911 hadn't happened, the world was still whole and the 1984 dystopia we now liv in was nothing but a bad dream.
911 changed everything, not only for murricunts
mass surveilance, all these dumb-ass traveling rules (we are now aching to be just as controlled as the people in the good old USSR used to be)
it was a progressive time, and while technology has leaped fabulously since the 90's, this world is in complete decadence
we were free, now freedom is just another illusion

It was neat, I was in scouts, having non stop sex with my tent buddy and his friend

I can't wait to see similarly nostalgia-soaked threads about the golden age of trump when we didn't have *insert bad stuff that will inevitably happen*.

layman's terms, but not so wrong.

implying there will be any media at all then other than rumors from travellers you meet.

I'm twelve and what is this

The filename is the ig of the gals

I didn't mean it like that at all

again.

Things were simple, having a game boy was all you needed. If you had a wall plug for it, you were set. There was an accessory that helped with playing it in the dark, a big magnifying screen with a light. Made holding it heavy and awkward.

Things were cheaper, there was much more candy to choose from before obesity and diabetes became a problem.

TV sucked. Unless you had pay TV. The internet was unheard of, and nobody had any idea it would turn into the mess it has.

You could get away with stuff easier, as long as you were quiet. I don't think anyone in scouts these days would be able to get up to half the stuff I did.

If you wanted photos, you'd have to take them, hope they turned out, and wait a week for them to be developed.

Cops were much more relaxed.

Handheld gaming almost died, pokemon brought it back from the brink.

South park was actually funny.

Music was okay until late 97/early 98, when pop drivel took over.

Cheat codes for games on the internet were almost always lies.

Portable CD players were neat, but they skipped a lot.

Terrorism was a thing, but 9/11 shattered the illusion of safety.

Sex roleplay on the internet was fantastic, because you had to wait days for porn to download. Now people don't bother - it's a lost art.

Some of the best weather. Global warming wasn't in full swing.

Tamagotchi were fun. Sucked when they died though.

If you wanted to do perverted/kinky stuff, you'd joke with your friends about it and hope one of them was into it, came to you later and asked more.

STD's were phone calls.

Well, how did you mean it then?

Now you have for granted social networks, tools to get in touch with people or meet new people

Before that you had to make friends, couldn't get in touch with people as you can do it nowdays

Today you take for granted online shopping tools/knowledge on the internet to basically do anything you want

Today you take for granted watching any TV show/movie you want on netflix, some on any streaming service

And a lot of things

Obviously the internet is the one big thing that differentiates the 90s from now.

Apart from that nothing changed fundamentally. And clear evidence of that are old farts who still don't have any internet and manage to live their life's just fine.

Internet makes a lot of things easier. But it really only changes your life fundamentally if you structure your life to revolve around it.

This guy couldn't be more wrong..... Ignore him

The boom years for extreme sports - paintball, skateboarding, motocross, snowboarding, BASE jumping, extreme bicycling, etc.
Its doing those things above that got me hooked on being an adrenaline junkie.
Xtreme was applied to anything to sell it to the masses so they could feel like they were part of the club. A lot of times though, whenever I’d go to an event, it was the same faces every time, except for the crowds who’d watch. TV and products made tons of money off our antics, but we got the best memories.
Still I’d like to have gotten some of that cash. Oh well, I’m older now, settled down. Plenty of aches and pains from my crash and burns. Still, it was a helluva time.

I'm sure you convinced everybody with this well thought-out and structured argument.

>before any mass shooting
no
you're an idiot

Honestly i was a lot like today, less cell phones, imagrants, and sjws. More dot coms, plad, and goths. By 95 we'd mostly gotten over our jadedness from the corperate greed of the 80s and were all fighting the good fight against polution. General sociatal tone was happier. We thought we could save the world and took pride in it, some things never change I guess.

There was a New Age movement which was kind of fun before everyone got so jaded. Tantra sex workshops. Escorts worked freely and were good looking and plentiful. Didn't even think about guns. Business was kind of fun. Didn't worry about Russia or China. Women didn't shave their pussies. After 9/11, everything went to shit.

Graduated high school in 99. Good economy, cheap gas, no wars that mattered to US. Parents weren't nervous shits. Could turn off all media and just be a human. Spend days at clean and proper public school, actually getting a good education. Nights spent with friends, in person, hanging for hours and hours. Bullshitting, playing games, never thinking of the rest of the world. Meeting girls was easy and fun. We we're the first generation that went through sex Ed after HIV, so there was less sex, but everything else was fair game.

I've never been more free than I was then.

Nickelodeon was in its prime. It was just a whole line up of god tier cartoons. Ren and stimpy, roccos modern life, Kablam, hey Arnold and ahh real monsters just to name a few

>I've never been more free than I was then.

That's because you didn't have a job.

It was a fantastic time... we had OJ, Mike Tyson, Monica Lewinski and Rock music...

What the fuck are you on about?

kek

Spoken exactly like someone who didn't live in the 90s. Also, are you implying that people before that didn't have rock music?

It was fucking awesome time to be a child and I am so grateful that I was born in 1991. Playing FF7, Pokemon R/B, Zelda OOT etc. when they first came out was just a constant rollercoaster of joygasm that I know for a fact subsequent "generations" haven't had the likes of, considering my brother's childhood, born in 1997. I think a big part of the magic of the era was not having the internet, and therefore having no access to information about new games etc. outside of buying a Nintendo magazine or whatever. Every game you played was a constant adventure of discovery, because unless a friend had already completed it you had no idea what the fuck was going to happen, unlike now where you look up walkthroughs and what have you in advance. Not automatically knowing all 151 original Pokemon, for example, and just having your little mind blown every saturday morning watching the cartoon and seeing new Pokemon introduced each episode - it was intense. Warhammer, Pokemon cards, Game Boys, cartridge-based systems - there was something way more tactile about it, which in hindsight gives it all an aura in the same way hipsters obsess over the physical tangibility of vinyl records and stuff. Idk, playing FF7 at 5 years old just fucking formed me as a person and I'll always be glad that I was born in that era, my childhood was great. I mean I look at teenagers now, like my friend's brother who's about 15, and it seemed like their early years were characterised by Minecraft and fucking Angry Birds or something on their parent's tablet. Then again I'm probably just committing the old fallacy of being nostalgic and seeing the "good old days" through rose-tinted glasses, I'm sure younger people's childhood experiences were equally meaningful. Just not as good haha

we had every single one of those things you dumb indiot

Fucking hell also need to add that there was a huge crew of kids around my age n my neighbourhood and we played outside about 350 days of the year, it was a time before parental insanity fully kicked in and kids were pacified with an iPad and locked in the house, fuck that, we were all about whittling sticks with penknives, having "wars" with spud guns and sticks, playing violent games like "jailbreak" - it was all proper masculine initiation-ritual sort of stuff where the older kids would properly beat you and it was so much fucking fun, kind of meant you started life out knowing how to handle yourself and knowing where the limits to your strength and courage were

I miss the way the internet used to be. It does some cool stuff now but it lacks the same feel. Like when all the mom and pop stores got run out by Walmart.

Haha, get a load of this guy! Thinks mass shooting are new! Wtf?

The shittiest thing about 9/11 is that it totally accomplished what it set out to do. Americans are pussified to this day, and the the authoritarian meme/big brother bullshit has only ever gotten worse since that day.

Rollerblading was and still is alot cooler than skateboarding

I was in my mid 20's during this time working and going to college, I was broke and never had any real exciting vacations, I moved around the country a lot too. I was pretty much unsatisfied with life but there wasn't much internet then or smart phones. Most people still didn't own computers or cell phones and we memorized phone numbers and had answering machines at home to take messages on microcassette tapes and the quality was shit. We watched tv, we went to peoples houses and just hung out and talked shit, people talked more back then because we weren't distracted by stupid phones and googling bullshit or stalking people on FB. We would stalk people in real life and just show up at someones apartment or house and say hey what's up? It was before 9-11 and the country was still innocent and the niggs weren't as violent, they were really still just killing themselves and they didn't mess with whitey too much. Porn was on VCR tapes and you had to go to a porno shop to buy, or rent soft porn from blockbuster. TV's sucked back then they were 200 pound Sonty Trinitrons and a 27" was considered bretty big. I don't know what else to say, AMA

it was nice, before the internet and 9/11 ruined humanity and how people treat each other

oh yeah this, there was only a metal detector no pat downs or backscatter radiation scanners etc, no groping it was so much better thn

>People actually wanted to see The Phantom Menace

Fuck you liam neeson and ewan mcgregor sold that entire movie.

>Now THIS is podracing!

I won't try and defend this but there was some good moments in that movie never forget

owlsey?

How are they so strong?

In the 90's the force of gravity was much weaker...

THIS

Hip hop is and always was shit. It was easier to get laid then than now. I feel sorry for kids these days. They are having less sex and doing less drugs than we did in the 90s. We didn't have all of this tumblr feminism bullshit. Women really liked to fuck back in the 90s.

If you weren't retarded you'd know right away. Alas...

Who is this? Sauce?

It was pretty goddamn awesome.

Everyone got freaked out about Marilyn Manson. Remember that? That was fun.

We had the first big school shooting back then.

Umm...what else?

I dunno man, that was high school for me and I just feel like...things were slightly more innocent back then, like most people lost their virginity in high school so not totally innocent like the 50s or some shit, but like I could actually date a girl, fall in love with a girl because of her personality, not just as a trophy.

Girls were like...cool then. You know? Like...I mean, you could actually talk to them. Not all of them, but a lot more than today.

Rock and pop largely sucked. They, and most of popular culture, became merely backward-looking retro pastiches.

you know who...

95-00 was 11-16 for me and it was fucking amazing. I had the internet available, including internet porn. But it was on a computer, not in your pocket, so it wasn't as all-consuming as it is today. People still did things in person. And the best part by far was no camera phones and no social media, so all my teenage fuckups aren't saved online forever.

you fuckin nerd.

WHO?!

Same as it is now but worse technology and the government was less honest about watching you while you shit.

You missed literally nothing.

Way better movies

oh yeah this.

I definitely think you can call this the third age, you know? I don't know what we call the exact date but the world post ubiquitous internet is a totally different place.

no more for you.

> first big school shooting

google Charles Whitman

fag

>girls were going through a cultural prudish time period

What?? Are you thinking of the 80s? What the fuck are you talking about?

Wicked cool.

you'll never have her.

Grew up without a cellphone or internet. Had dial up after a while, shitty Mac computer. Stayed outside almost everyday, played Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. Raised without google. Hard ass redneck dad. I kind of look down on kids these days for being softer than babyshit, but maybe I’m just getting old now

true

Google ways to kill yourself

Honestly, those were the best years of my life. I played varsity baseball for four years, I played varsity basketball for three years and I dated from 97-00 the hottest girl in my HS.

Unfortunately being poor and orphaned at 11 and being neglected after being adopted into a liberal lower middle class family with a bunch of kids, my life pretty much went to hell when I turned 20 and that girl I loved and the adopted family I had been craving some semblance of care from left me to be alone. That happened in 2000 when I was 20.

Now, I'm 37, I live on $194 in food stamps, I work for 200 dollars a month babysitting my niece whom is the one thing I live for and basically haven't seen any friends at all in well over a year. My best friend died Jan 17 and not one person ever stopped by or called to say anything to me. I'm that alone, except for my sister and niece.

I have three other siblings. I was closest to my brother, like real close, but he left for the Navy in 2001 and I've seen him less than 10 times since for a total of probably 2-3 days of actual time spent together.

I'm a joke everywhere I post on the internet. I don't go on facebook anymore because I drove a lot of people away with obsessive posting. I get banned in pretty much every reddit sub for a variety of ridiculous reasons. Admin got me because I started spamming the report button many, many times one day. I'm sure the mods like all the reasons I thought up. . Now they are stalking my alts. The popular twitter intellectuals who supposedly represent my point of view are fuckfaces for the most part. Weinstein is a big fuckface. Real pompous fuckface. Smart, but really full of himself. There's others too. The women can be cunts and they hold it against you for being an asshole but have no problem giving each other pats on the back when they fucking condescend to you. You react as you should and get labeled a troll. I hate them.

Game isn't over. I love my niece, she really is a treasure. I love deeply because of being orphaned, fatherless and neglect, but love also destroyed me. I sincerely feel that way about my niece, but unlike when I was younger, my potential is gone and has been gone for a long time. I once had a lot of potential. More than most just based on genetics. I dated a 10 like I mentioned, but I was also really attractive. A good athlete. A smart kid. Spelling champion. I probably could have played pro ball in baseball and definitely D-1 if I had been in better circumstances. Made varsity with a teammate's glove and cleats I bought for myself at 14. No parents in the stands. Varsity player as a freshman, unheard at my school. Only varsity player to go home on the bus because no one came to see me play.

Just being shit. Except I am a good uncle, at least in the love department. I don't do any hardcore drugs. I smoke pot and chew tobacco. Used to drink to excess when I did drink, which only hit 3-4 days a week at it's worst point. Never really could sustain a job. Always felt stuck inside a box. Always felt insecure from when I was a poor child without a dad. For that one stretch in between 95-00 I was actually really expecting my life to turn out great and it sure looked like it would.

THIS

Graduated high school in 96. I feel like I grew up at the perfect time. Y2K new years was one of the best nights of my life

We had broadband internet around that time already. What backwater country are you from? Western Europe here.

Those were the days when I started playing online gaems and it was great (well after 2000 it was more stable and more people stopped being laggy dial up players).

To be honest nothing much changed besides being an adult now.

You seem very interesting. Is there a forum that you frequent aside from Sup Forums ?

> MIRC , ICQ , Yahoo Chat , MSN Chat etc , it was all there to meet new people from all over the world.

or were you too young to know how to use the internet during 1995-2000 ?

>what were the 90s like
>talks more about now than the 90s
>joke on the internet obsessively posting

Well I can't figure this one out at all.

You sounds like a massive cuck

Hahaha I remember that, I was 16 and freaking out, I thought the world was going to fucking end.

I got really fucking drunk though.

Not sure how to tag responses. But to answer the question about visiting other places besides Sup Forums. I only really visited here when I was sleeping outside at my sister's for a couple of years and when I was homeless in 2015. I have and had a flip phone and Sup Forums was really good for that, although I never really got to partake because I couldn't get past the captcha.

I finally got a laptop in 2015 after doing a remodel at my friend's home so since I basically just stuck to sports forums and reddit. I picked up twitter earlier this year. But seriously, I'm a black sheep in every forum I go in. I usually insult the mods or the site owners and I generally offer opinions no one wants to hear. On reddit I post in sports subs and KIA on occasion and troll most other places with vindictiveness. I'm very much anti-SJW and feminist but I don't believe equality of opportunity is even in the realm of reality as libertarians, neolibs, and conservatives often rejoice about. I'm pessimistic. I want to the world to blow up, except for dreams of living until my niece is old enough to be okay without me. I've been chewing since 22 pretty heavily and I think it's part of a death wish that is inevitable. Yeah, she's the one thing I feel for other than my obsessive compulsive tendencies.

Also to the person who thought my post was random. My most recent visit to Sup Forums was due to a number of postings from a sex slave. That inspired this as well as the dates mentioned. They really were my sweet spot.

more ylyl and trolling...stormfags were not as loud and didn't treat Sup Forums like their guest house so much...
