while in the west we have falsity trying to pass itself off as genuine (manufactured 'cultural events')
or meta entertainment where everything is a parody of itself and you are somehow enjoying what it is for what it isn't (the colbert show is a parody of talk shows but it's still a talk show that you watch for the talk show aspects but you don't admit it so you are actually enjoying the parody aspect?)

I remember one game show where they got a team of three olympic fencers against a team of fifty or something people that didn't know how to fence, put a balloon on each of their chests and had an all out fencing battle.
It was pretty fucking sick to watch. I like that the Japanese aren't afraid of trying out there stuff like that.

Right? Nobody ever seems to bring that shit up. It's been going on for so long, Japan has some seriously antiquated production habits. I mean, you can look at the oldest game show video on Youtube and it still has the corner person.
It's even weirder when it's an old man or woman that isn't explicitly reacting to the scene, so they just sit there staring stoic into the camera while goofy shit goes down.

Chinas got a pretty cool show.
Famous singers come on the show and sing songs, but they wear masks so nobody knows who they are.
They have a singing competition and as people get voted off they have to remove their mask. The final winner of the competition gets to keep their mask and remain a mystery.
Then the winner from the next season has to challenge the previous seasons champion in a final boss battle to see who keeps their mask on.
