Punk Is Dead

What does it mean to be "Punk" anymore? It's the most stagnant and bloated genre that long outstayed its welcome yet still continues to gasp and wheeze along with new generations of suburban white idiots buying it up.

Punk is dead, and we killed it.

You're about as retarded as those white suburbanites you think listen to punk.
FYI pop punk isn't punk, faggot. Not that you'd know the difference apparently.

I admit the gloves are a bit overkill, but they look fine. You're all just a bunch of fucking nerds.

...

EVERYTHING gets co-opted & eventually style becomes product

i love Crass btw... & if old punk music still inspires..it's still alive

punk is still very much alive, it just went underground again. You do notice this when you buy punk vinyl, there still is a bunch of bands (and labels/distros) doing the DIY punk even in 2017.
Stop listening to music on spotify/youtube/apple, and do some digging.

to prove my point, here is the new Active Minds lp

Digging? It's November. Just list every single punk album you liked this year. And no 2016 I don't even wanna hear it.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

See

no, i havent even listened to all the 2017 i got so far.

Punk :thesis

Post punk: synthesis

Hardcore: revival

Pop punk: anti thesis

So far this is an extremely lenient definition of punk at best. I insist it has little to no relation to punk but to each their own. Lots of stuff Ive heard this year is way more punk than this but Im still nit calling it punk because its post-hardcore.

So how do you even know it's punk?

kek Active Minds is more punk than most bands, they started out as a diy punk band in the 80's, still going strong.

punk related, could be hardcore too or metal punk
like this: youtube.com/watch?v=b6HBGmTsMvM

Punk was originally a fashion line by Vivian Westwood. Genres and any other established concept always turn to shit once they are cemented and 100s of brainlets hop on and imitate the basic structure of the movement.
Literally every established movement goes to shit the second it is widely established.

Ok well I'm just talking specifically about the first song in this album.

Ok this 2nd song is defintitely punk so far.

When you get a Active Minds lp you know what to expect, fast hardcore punk and weird soft punk rock. They do have some releases that rival even the fastest and hardest of all the hardcore bands. The B side on this is bananas, the A side is soft punk ^^

The last big punk movment was folk punk and crust punk
It flew under the radar because people were too busy listening to nigger music and EDM
It seems to be dying out in the trump years.

sorry you missed it retard

First I've even heard of them but I'm digging the shit out of it so far thanks. On par with the excellent Discharge album last year.

lol

Ever since the opening sea shanty song this this thing has been going full tilt. It actually just started to slow down now.

youtu.be/wuD8NisRFEc?t=327

I'm still on the new album right now Mass Destraction. It's a slow post-punk kinda song now.

youtube.com/watch?v=6XLlEil5KNY
bunch of labels joined forces to release the Active Minds & Ultimo Gobierno split (old hardcore/punk band from spain, still going) not that long ago.

And it's not a re-release? I'm showing the same title from 1994 for Active Minds

not a re-release, the 1994 one is called "The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum"

Oh ok that's what RYM is calling this one too for some reason. Well Mass Distraction was fucking awesome. Best I've heard this year although I've heard very little.

discogs is a better source of information for this kind of stuff =P
discogs.com/artist/252638-Active-Minds-2

Conservativism is the new punk. Listen to Wagner and the western canon.

Ah mystery solved. The complete title was just getting cut off. Cute

another one from 2017
earthcrustdisplacement.bandcamp.com/album/d-takt-noize-12

That was really awesome. I wish it was twice as long. Thank you very much.

oh hi gavin

look into disbeat/discore, and you'll find more of this. here is Disclose.

This was fucking awesome too, thank you very much. 2017 has been a lot better than I thought.

Punk is a derogatory term created by old people at the time of its conception to describe youths who dress or act differently from what was the social norm. They were looked at as degenerates, thats what it meant to the people that coined the term. It's hilarious because the people who started listening to this type of music tried to embrace and claim this term, despite it literally being society's term for an outcast degenerate. Even more funny, punkfags are blowing gaskets trying to argue for what "punk" really is, still. The term punk wasn't meant to represent specific ideas or values. Anyhow, punk has kept moving along in many directions and still is. Its just that outsiders or entry level listeners generalize it by what is considered relevant, and the purists demonize whatever doesnt fit their definition of how the genre should exist and progress. Punk was great and still is. Now its not as clouded by normies who got on board for the aesthetic, or the elitists who bastardize the whole thing with their argueing and gatekeeping.

Punk is not only very much alive, but essential, and relevant, for better or for worse.

Pic posted is still relevant today. Just change some of the names around, and the situations that made this album necessary back then still stand today.

Punk belongs to the punks, and not the businessmen.

They need us.We don't need them.

Punk will never be dead, as long as some of us refuse to be lead.

Jello's been collaborating with The Revernd Horton Heat and he's as good as he's ever been if not better. I think the last studio work he's released was last year. I think it's technically a new Lard song but since Paul's not on bass it's just officially Al's song under Surgical Meth Machine

GLOSS literally sound like any other run-of-the-mill 80s hc band, and in fact they're better instrumentalists than half of the most famous hc bands. If you honestly think they're any different to MDC or DOA or whatever you're kidding yourself.

If you genuinely believe that underground punk music doesn't exist anymore then you're probably a fucking moron who has never left your bedroom. Underground hardcore literally never went away since the 80s and there are copious amounts of DIY clubs and venues being run exactly how they were decades ago.

I can't stand this glassy-eyed nostalgia for older punk music either, Crass straight up sucked except for one decent album (Penis Envy) and aside from a couple of exceptions, UK punk in the 70s was essentially a trendy corporate ass-blast not unlike the 'new wave' trend that would follow.

The mainstream went so far to the left that rebellion stopped being rebellious.

But theres a lot of Nazi Socialist Black Metal.
Being Nazi is punk
Being Pro White is punk
Being Conservative is punk
Being Pro Trump is punk

Fuck the Right Wing, Fuck the homosexuals (fuck of insult), Fuck niggers, Fuck Anti Fas

The new punk is to get a job, raise a family and realize the holocaust didn't happen.

are you retarded

Jello Biafra is what comic sans would sound like given a voice.

I actively listened to Crust Punk in high school (graduated 2007) and attended Amebix's show in Providence in 2009. It was well on my radar, but even then, the scene wasn't anything I'd call alive. Sure, you had close to a hundred kids at a show on a good night, but most of them depended on mommy and daddy willing to put up with their flighty pursuits of lifestyle Anarchism. Around 2010-2011 is when it all petered out.

I'm still waiting for Trump to "Make Punk Great Again" because a bunch of gimpy dreadlocked vegans selling their lame 7" EPs is exactly what the world needs.

I get were you're trying to get with the "punk sound" being pretty stale but to me punk should mostly about atitude. Bands like Death Grips have a tremendous punk influence in terms of atitude towards their music so i wouldnt say its dead, its just no longer about a specific music genre and i find it great.

puk means the music of a revolt (whatever that may be), not a genre

Trust fund crust kids are an abomination. I feel sorry for their mistreated dogs as they panhandle.

Knew a guy who used to toss squatting crusties off properties when he worked in Portland as a security guard. He first worked at a bank and then a courthouse before transitioning over to contract work doing whatever he was assigned to. All the crusties were the same: dreadlocks, hats with buttons, dumb vests with patches everywhere, skateboards they can't do tricks on and drinking Pabst.

Company the guy worked for got contracted by a real estate agent who purchased an entire block of vacant homes. Boss man was doing massive renovations and needed security to accompany the cleaning crews. They went to this house and a bunch of crusties were squatting in it; beer cans and paper plates and assorted trash everywhere. A 250 foot extension cord was plugged into another vacant home that happened to have power but no windows. Used needles everywhere, too. Guy recalls having to physically drag two of the crusties out who were yelling that they were homeless, land is free, private property is evil and other common talking points. He ended up having to carry one of the crusties out in a choke while another worker held the vagrant's legs before they could toss him clear into the street on his head.

Whoever contracted those guys must have had a heart, because they weren't even supposed to do that legally. He was supposed to call the police, but he didn't want to go that route, because they'd actually arrest and fine the hell out them. He just wanted them out and gone.

why has no one posted this yet

>le punk has to be a radical political movement meme

Punk was a reactionary movement opposed to shitty 70s pop music. Once the 80s hit, the movement was already dead and being kept alive by people who liked the fashion and DIY feel. Now it's a zombie on perpetual life support thanks to nu-males and art hoes who like the aesthetics.

Punk was a way for underrepresented people to have a community. Now that being gay, atheist, anarchist, etc. is all socially acceptable, the only people left to fill up the community are a) literal poseurs who like the fashion of mohawks and studded jackets and b) the lowest of the low degenerates.

Post-punk and no wave was a reactionary thing to people realizing that punk was a stupid movement that was way too optimistic and full of itself when it came to its relevance. So all the people who initially felt liberated by punk made even more alienating and abrasive music, thinking that it would actually succeed in failing to be co-opted by shallow idiots who love aesthetics. But, as we all know, post-punk and no wave are the number one genres of liberal arts students with tumblrs dedicated to brutalism and Russian arthouse movies, so there is literally nothing on the planet that cannot be co-opted into being a commercial and easily available product to build up your own aesthetic and nothing more.

So punk is officially dead.

You're the same idiot you typed AmeriKKKa without a lack of irony, right?

Get over yourself.

Still some good punk artists out there
