That's the thing. I love games like this. I loved dragon age origins, which I think is a good comparision. The other two dragon age games are shit btw. But ya the witcher is just meh to me.
The story is super bland....and I'll give it the benefit of the doubt because I am coming in at the third installment, so it's understandable that I wouldn't be as invested. However, I feel the game makes no attempt to get the player invested in the lore that has passed between the first 2 games so that the player can fully immerse themselves into the third game.
Combat is just hack, roll, repeat.
I found majority of the quests boring.

Why do people love this game so much? I put 3 or 4 hours into it before getting bored. Of that time, I spent maybe 15 minutes playing what I would describe as a "game". The rest was just shitty cut scenes and riding around on horseback listening to some fagbag prattle on about some chick who smells like elderberries or something. What am I missing?

It's just so different from pretty much every other open world game at the time and even today. The side quests feel woven into the world in a way that kinda enriched the rpg aspect of the game for me. I thought the story was also incredible, and this game marked the first time I played a game and the cutscenes just kept feeling like a movie. Beautifully executed. But it does have slow points. It's a "story driven" rpg. Get high and get lost in it. It's the most convincing video game world I've seen to date.
