What's your most favorite and most hated Star Wars SE change?

What's your most favorite and most hated Star Wars SE change?

My favorite change is the added clone trooper chatter during the Battle of Utapau in ROTS.

The change I hate the most is this stupid fucking rock in ANH.

Vader screaming "NOOOOOO" when he throws Sheev in RotJ.

best: greedo shot first

>Favourite

I can't think of one. The fixed lightsabers in ANH I guess.

>least favourite

What else? The fucking musical segment in ROTJ. Or the huge creature that fills up the whole screen for a moment in Mos Eisley for absolutely no reason.

The new Ben Kenobi scream

Sounds like fucking ric flair coming in

youtube.com/watch?v=K2QTRZ3PVMQ

Least favorite is easily young Anakin appearing at the end instead of old Anakin.

That's funny. You said that greedo shot first was the best when it's the worst! Now that's humor

i don't think anyone in the world actually thinks this apart from george lucas, and he has probably realised by now he was wrong

i think most people think it doesn't matter either way, and nerds who look into it to any degree think it's worse

Luke's scream is the worst.

In the original release of Star Wars, the death star had written English on a power bar. They changed it to galactic common in Special Edition.

Another particularly good change was that in the original release, in any scene where R2D2 was in the same shot as a window into space, he would appear greyscale. This is because they used bluescreens outside the set windows to put in the stars outside spaceships, and since R2D2 is blue that fucked it up. They color corrected the problem in special edition

This and the fixed saber effects are the only good ones.

that needed to be changed, but I have no idea why they didn't just make it so you couldn't quite see his face.

He can't keep getting away with it

>Best

Victory Celebration replacing Yub Nub

>Worst

Vader's NOOOOOOO in ROTJ

That one was so bad even Lucas walked back on it.

here's an example of black and white R2D2. This happens many times in the movies

English IS Galactic Basic you mong. You mean to say Aurebesh

I meant written english vs written galactic basic, which is Aurebesh yes. Written English, aka the roman alphabet, doesn't exist in the Star Wars universe, or at least it isn't supposed to.

protip: R2 is a sith lord

I liked it better when Star Wars was just a fucking space movie and not an autistic documentation of a fictional universe with its own languages and everything

lol the beginning of that did sound fucking scary but the end of it was laughable. probably looked like a DAEMON or some faggy sandnigger spirit. pretty fucking based obi wan

>least favorite change

Changing "Lepti Nek" to "Jedi Rocks" in ROTJ. The new CG aliens stick out like shit next to the practical puppets.

>favorite change

The extra Wampa scene in ESB is the fucking best.

Favorite: end song in ROTJ, makes it seem much more like a definitive ending. Too bad Force Awakens fucked it up.

Least favorite: Probably the Palace song in ROTJ.

>Star Wars SE

What's that

Thanks man. Was some time since i saw the unedited versions.

Special Edition

Pretty much any copy of the original trilogy you buy these days will be the special edition. It has a lot changes using digital trickery. Some good, some bad.

Oh, so it's original and remastered

Worst: That singing CGI alien in Jabba's Palace

Best: Podracing on Tattooine

A good idea in theory but still bungled. The hologram's resolution is so much higher than everything else in the movie so it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Who hype for Project 4K77?

still better than "Oh Jabba"

what a fucking waste.

>This and the fixed saber effects are the only good ones.

I don't recall the saber effects, do you have a comparation of both?

This is hilarious, wish they had kept it.
youtube.com/watch?v=PaXgK5HRBjk

Who the fuck approved this?

JABBAHU ACKBAR!!

some editions of the DVD completely fuck up the color correction which ruins the rotoscoping on the lightsaber, leaving them like white strobe lights.

genuine autism
like the person who thought this needed to exist is legitimately on the spectrum

How does Luke survive that fall? I doubt the force can help with falling several hundred feet onto your ass.

>worst addition

Bobba Fett's fucking ship

>that needed to be changed

No, it didn't.

The fan edit looks much better.

You were probably at most like 7 when that was the case...

>wanting the emperor to look like a puppet

There are so many fan 35mm OT restorations I don't even know which one to get hyped for anymore

This one looks definitive for ANH anyway...

Great job, Lucas. It's much better.

link?

This little change.

youtube.com/watch?v=1L3uPvslAMw

In the original version the distraught Vader mutters out a concise order. This is a little character moment as Vader has always kept a controlled appearance, even as he is executing his officers for incompetence. But here he has just been rejected in Luke's ultimate rebel moment. "I'd rather die than join you". One can see how troubled he is right through that plastic helmet.

youtube.com/watch?v=i97Ta_m4tIo

Here he nonchalantly orders his ship to be ready for him. Unaffected by his son apparently commiting suicide. This little moment has been ruined, and the movie became a tad bit worse.

>instead anakin's full body
>they bad-photoshop his rapist face into a 50 yo man

...

>Or the huge creature that fills up the whole screen for a moment in Mos Eisley for absolutely no reason
There is a reason. It was there to hide an edit if I remember right.

It looks like there's a big opening at the top right corner. He probably slid in there.

is there even an official blu ray of the origional theatrical cut (ie without any of georges autistic editing bullshit)

i know theres some fan edit thing

This one bugs me out, in the new shot the emperor looks straight from ROTS but he looks nothing like that in ROTJ.

But I guess the original doesn't look like the ROTJ emperor either...

This desu

I watched this

youtube.com/watch?v=1RkeFYgaoXM

This project looks really, really promising, but I wouldn't call it definitive. Apart from Mike Verta's professional restoration (which might even end up in stores IIRC) there's another restoration where the guy goes all out and scans everything lossless at 4K full aperture - 4096 x 3112, so after stretching to compensate for the squeezed image the result is closer to 8K. He has scanned entire OT, multiple prints per movie, the only problem is that he doesn't have the time to perform digital cleanup.

No, the highest quality of original cuts released officially is trash non-anamorphic DVD.

thats seriously such a shame, i guess i will have to find a torrent of that fan edit then

This triggered me a lot. Apart from changing the line they also added a shot of Vader walking into the shuttle. Like they thought the audience wouldn't understand why Vader is suddenly on star destroyer. How fucking autistic is that?

Fuck Lucas. The original line is so based. Even the music was better.

For the first movie, you can go either Harmy's Despecialized (Blu-ray with changes reverted) or Star Wars Silver Screen Edition (a fan made 35mm scan). I would go with the second one just because it's 100% original, but it's your preference.

I thought Verta just gave up on that or came up against legal worries which is why he's helping this project. Haven't heard anything from that guy in ages.

in any case this one is in good hands.

and Harmy still needs to fix his ROTJ edition that crushed blacks. that was bizarre.

alright, thanks

currently streaming the Star Wars Holiday Special if anyone would like to join me in the chatroom

That's my favorite. Not because it's good but because every time I hear it I can't not laugh. It's like an anti-depressant.

Meme completely aside.... What's wrong with his face?

AFAIK Verta will never ever "leak" his restoration, but instead he's trying to set up a meeting with Disney executives so that he can hand it to them. You'd think it should be easy, but apparently those fucking jews don't care about old movies. Apparently there was some important "push" at the end of October, but no one knows what became of it yet.

Personally I think it will get released next year, with the 4K market is getting pumped up Disney will want as many titles on UHD BD as possible.

CHEWIES DAD IS ABOUT TO WATCH INTERRACIAL PORN

NOT EVEN JOKING

COME JOIN US

It makes more sense to me this way. That was the last moment Anakin Skywalker existed before he became Vader. You could argue that Vader returned to being Anakin right at the very end there, but that takes an extra step of unnecessary justification.

>Personally I think it will get released next year, with the 4K market is getting pumped up Disney will want as many titles on UHD BD as possible.
that's what everyone thought when blu-ray hit...
then when Episode 7 was announced and people thought Disney would treat fans to a re-release...

face it. George has burned the original negatives and erased it from the Disney vaults.

;___;

Anakin is reborn when he decides to save his son and kills the emperor.

How is that fucking gobot supposed to even get in there? These movies are retarded and were never good.

>My favorite change is the added clone trooper chatter during the Battle of Utapau in ROTS.
There are special editions for the prequels?

Otherwise:
>favorite change
I don't know, probably something I didn't notice.
>most hated
Every fucking thing that made the movies worst than they were, so a lot of shit.

>implying greyscale R2D2 was a problem
There is nothing wrong with colors looking fucked up when the lighting is weird. What's weird is everything looking the same in every lighting condition.

Yes but this time it's different. Mike Verta has already restored it. All leg work is done, it's complete. All there is left to do is encode, author a disc and it's ready for release. The only man that actively suppressed the originals is no longer in charge, and the guys that are love easy shekels.

>George has burned the original negatives and erased it from the Disney vaults.

He didn't, but even if he did, many 35mm prints still exist and Verta's restoration technique can give very impressive results.

>they had to fire the creator of Star Wars to release Star Wars

s c u l p t e d c l a y b a k e d i n a n o v e n

not to mention R2 literally flies wherever he wants in the prequels but doesn't bother to keep those same parts for the OT

oops meant for

>most favorite
Probably the cleaned up and added Cloud City effects. They make the place look much better than in the original release.

The extra Biggs stuff is also nice for the character development. Honorable mention also goes to the added "close the blast doors" line in the stormtrooper chase with Han, although no one is actually sure if was added or not, since people remember hearing the line in the original release.

>most hated
Hayden Christiansen being forced into ROTJ. It's jarring and makes no sense. Actually, most of the other changes in ROTJ (NOOOOO), for that matter.

I'm also not a big fan of adding McDiarmid into ESB. The original sequence works fine; to me, putting an older, fatter emperor with bad makeup into the scene looks even more different to ROTJ than the chimp-eyed woman.

>best change
Not really any. Probably something subtle that was nice.

>Worst change
Yavin launch scene where the X-wings hover 2-ft from the guy in the tower. The original with the specks of light leaving into certain death was much more moving.

No way that is real. He sounds like fucking Bobcat.

INTERRACIAL MUSIC NUMBER COMMENCING

the emperor originally looked like that? what the fuck

But he does. In the 96 special edition, Lucas changed Luke's line in Empire from "You're lucky you don't taste very good!" to "You're lucky you got out of there."

>Artoo blasted himself out of the swamp monster

m.youtube.com/watch?v=IiCn0O4aF_8
First clip. I hate the PT but these guys are still my heroes.

what the fuck. the original line is much wittier. the revision is just generic and obvious.

why Lucas. why.
