The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Just wasn't feelin' the Vega release.
Ungfell was nice. The recorder in some of the folk sections sounded exactly like those shitty versions of songs played on recorder, like the Titanic song or whatever. Got a chuckle.
S wins. RIP doggo.
Already listened to Dubrovnik and Kubikmaggi, just trying to decide who won. May take a bit and a few relistens.
So, when I listen to music, I always try to do something else at the same time. I have art I can work on, writing I can do, or something to study or read. In general, I almost never just relax and listen to an album. Life's crazy and short, you know. It's hard to find time for the simple things, especially in these times of information and potential.
When I put on "Fisherman's Woman", I stopped to listen. That's all I really want out of music: to be stunned in silence at its simple beauty, and have my spirit lifted a little at the same time.
10/10
Check it out if y'all wanna feel good.

Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982) >pop, contemporary R&B
Being an 18-year-old writing a review for the best selling album of all time on an Uzbekistani dry-cleaning forum seems incredibly pointless, so I'll say this. The hits ("Thriller", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", "Beat It", "Billie Jean", "Human Nature") are all great, as you all know, the deep cuts all kinda suck. "The Girl Is Mine" is laughably bad, and the rest are just pointless and mediocre.
2.5+
Axe - Live & Studio (1969) >psychedelic rock, acid rock
The folk here I could do without, the rock is otherworldly. When done well, acid rock is one of the most exciting genres out there. It's not always done terribly well, so to hear it done with this much passion and grit is great. The guitar screams, the clean, soft vocals are a great contrast, it's just great.
3.0-
The Posies - Frosting on the Beater (1993) >power pop, alternative rock
I undoubtedly have a soft spot for power pop, and this all but confirms that. The vocals and the slightly forebearing nature of this give it a sound unique to the genre, more inline with the moody hard rock of QotSA than the upbeat nerd rock of Weezer. It loses itself to this moody sound a bit too often, forgoing the melodic nature that serves as the album's core. Still, great stuff.

I know that feel. Ukrainian meme underground man Viktor Pushkar keeps saying he's going to digitize his collection of cassettes but he never gets around to it. Blemish albums and Transilvania Smile never apparently
On the topic of those demos though, I quite enjoyed the intimacy of her and her piano - it reminds me of Ihor Cymbrows'kyj somewhat. Is anything she made like that? I've only heard Warraw.
Grayson Thompson
Listen to Imagining Weather. It's pretty stripped down compared to Warraw.

some stiff competition on there. i'm confident though.
Dylan Turner
Yeah I have no idea why people keep track of "tastemakers". Like I see in some music discussion forums when people post albums that others comment "ah nice qwerty100-core / whatever all of the tastemakers are called" and it's just like... Why care

Shit. Still mad about those hot ass takes on art. I will say there are a few accounts I follow there outside of /daily/ that are experts on some genres and are great for recs and reviews, etc
Kevin Harris
Would love to get some recs that are similar to this record, specifically something that sounds like a mix of drone and classical, but none of that new age stars of the lid bs
I will never understand why people are so disgusted with vagina-related imagery. young age? virginity?
it's always the people not into art in the slightest that have so many takes on modern art lmao
Jace Cooper
>why people are so disgusted with vagina-related imagery They're not as beautiful as a good bepis
Ryder Murphy
i've noticed i've been listening to a lot more music by women recently, so do you guys happen to know any other cool 20th century dronegirls like radigue & oliveros, or stuff from the alt r&b scene (sza, sevdaliza, liz, that one fka twigs song and only that one fka twigs song) that would be pretty cool
also what are some good jazzwomen? all i can think off the top of my head are the wives and ex wives of jazz musicians (coltrane, sharrock, bley)
Carson Baker
Thanks! I'll check this out later
Ryan Allen
>perhaps that's a head space I should get out of for music that is this minimal Definitely. One of the key tenets of a lot of minimalist music is to avoid cues that let the listener know what part of the piece they're in; essentially creating a piece that lives in the 'now' rather than having an intro, climax/crescendo, build ups etc. The concept in practice appears to make time stand still; it's very likely you checked where you were in the piece multiple times because you actually had no idea. Live in that, relish it. Feldman(not a minimalist)'s later compositions are a good example of this.
Colton Brooks
Yeah but treating and album a person likes as "that-person-core", creating the illusion that the person in question made it popular just because they maybe made it popular on rym
Nathaniel Wood
>an Uzbekistani dry-cleaning forum I will always love this meme Also nice digits
Adrian Bennett
then again some people have trouble identifying vaginas in pictures
Angel Sullivan
The best part is that they're always clearly most affected by its subversiveness despite their assertions otherwise. It's like "this isn't music!" Oh yeah that sucks. Wouldn't feel the need to tell others about accounts I like.
Levi Watson
Yeah, I understand and enjoy that feeling. I'm just a huge fan of catharsis in music. Catharsis for me doesn't necessarily mean explicit builds/climaxes/crescendoes, instead it can manifest as a synthesis of all of the previously introduced elements. Its probably not the best way to word it but it makes sense in my head. I felt like in vain was slightly lacking that in the end and not purely because it was minimal. I definitely need to listen to it more though and more minimalism in general.
