Great movie, the only people who don't like are the ones who can't stop sucking RLM's dick.

WHEN I KILLED YOUR BROTHER?

this

it's linklaters masterpiece by far. a pontification on the passing of time in one of the most poetic and genius strokes of directing i've ever seen. the people who hate it had shitty childhoods and cant relate. see: RLM

stop

it'll take 12 years to forget

>the people who hate it had shitty childhoods and cant relate
I had a shitty childhood and can't relate at all to this film but I don't hate it, to me it's just bland and predictable.

I can't either becuse I'm not white but the themes of growing up were all there.

>le abusive father trope

overdone as fuck.

8/10 movie. really great and groundbreaking

You're kidding yourself if you don't think this isn't one of the most important movies of the 21st century.

I TALKED JUST LIKE THIS!

12 YEARS

this movie took 12 years to make, right?

Turbo-overrated dogshit.

Well, my Filipino friends showed me some of their soap operas and they always overuse the child abuse trope, and even go overboard with it.

They actually love having pedophilia there and murdering, torturing and/or mutilating kids.

Their shows are also fucked up in other aspects.

Their allegedly "kid friendly" shows have filler arcs and/or episodes focused solely and bordering on softcore porn.

If Dan "Get in the robot, Carly" Schneider shows were made by a pedophile, than the Filipino soap operas are made by pedophiles and/or serial killers.

absolute garbage

Considering it was just voted 5th best movie of the 21st century, I'd say it's pretty well remembered

>a pontification on the passing of time

That's enough thesaurus for you tonight, Junior.

>the people who hate it had shitty childhoods and can't relate

I thought the point was that IF you had a shitty child you WOULD be able to relate? The divorced parents who fight, the dad you see on the weekends, the shitty stepfather, moms boyfriends being assholes and dealing with her inability to maintain a steady and healthy relationship...

*shitty childhood

Child abuse and neglect seems to generally be a trope in television shows across cultures. I haven't seen the Filipino soap operas the one user speaks of, but I've seen child abuse commonly come up in Mexican, Indonesian and Korean soap operas/ telenovellas/ dramas/etc, and it also seems to appear a decent amount in more serious anime. It is probably just a universal topic across cultures when it comes to character development.

The The Life of Pablo of films.

His father wasn't abusive....

>You're kidding yourself if you don't think this isn't one of the most important movies of the 21st century.

It's a longer, duller, unfocused version of The Tree Of Life that took WA-A-A-A-AY more time to make.

Yeah, but they go to the next level, they have torture porn.

And most of the story is just too much filler arcs that would make Naruto jealous and copypaste stories.

>there are people who legitimately don't understand the purpose of the 12 year filming process

you guys are legit embarrassing

read this if you want to get educated: criterion.com/current/posts/4246-boyhood-the-moment-seizes-you

I am guessing none of you will as you're generally all pretty illiterate. It's a really great article though.

>there are people who legitimately don't understand the purpose of the 12 year filming process

A publicity stunt to capture the imagination of pseudointellectuals, who will then justify their low test reverence with bullshit postmodern essaying?

>boyhood came out 12 years ago
fuck

this movie made me genuinely sad (i.e. watching someone else's past, realizing you can't change yours) which is why I may have been quick to call it overrated at first. I definitely think it has value and I always wondered if someone was willing to make a film for that long. However, I just don't think a lot of thought really went into the plot and the characters - this movie felt like more of a logistical experiment than anything. Linklater himself said that the scripts for each year were written at the last minute since he was always involved in other projects, and I do think it shows.

>citing Criterion

I take it you're pretty big on films, huh?
