Not very. The Residents are pretty entry level, you're a bit of a faggot for thinking you're obscure enough to be pretentious,

this
dunning-kruger effect

Snakefinger is better

Fair enough, I'll admit music isn't my biggest interest and I just recently discovered them, and was reading all the comments on their vids about how "sophisticated" their listeners are, and as I'm sure you can tell, I'm a self concious faggot and I didn't want to go around telling people I enjoy the residents and have them end up thinking I was a wanker.
I'll just kill myself now

dam...

So give me something extra weird

pretty out there, for the 70s...idk

Duck stab is great...but a lot of other lps, you have to put yourself in the mindset of pop culture during the 70s to really appreciate it

I'm seeing them in concer tonight. Step up your game, faggot.

I knew a 16 year old girl who was really into them, which tells me they must not be that hard to get into.

Is this a comfy residents thread? Alright.

The third Reich is pretty loaded with commentary for sure. Their concepts is what makes their albums more interesting. But I can still appreciate an album like for example - "Meet the residents" from time to time, simply for what it is. It's strange and different but it's still good music to my ears.

I guess my only point is, an album like "reich" is meant to break down pop music...just given its time of release, it'll break down the sixties...i counts on the listener to know the 60s to make that point

either way, it's strange and entertaining, but possibly the greater statement is lost

"Third reich" could still be as relevant today though as it was back then, pop music is still made to appeal to as many listeners as possible, at the cost of originality and forward thinking.
The only difference is that we live in a different time with new singles. But it's still just about popular radio hits.
The Nazi reference might not work today though..

>pop music is still made to appeal to as many listeners as possible, at the cost of originality and forward thinking.
not true btw

Well, I'd be happy to be proven wrong

You know he died because his heart was broken. His albums are really nice.

I see your point, Arca is a bit out there for sure.

>How pretentious am I for listening to and enjoying the residents?
Depends on the reason you listen to and enjoy them.

Which are?

i think you're still somewhat right. but atm i feel like pop related music is pushing more shit than any of the "experimental" genres right now
then again "pop" is still vague. because you could be meaning top 40. which i still agree is pretty tame overall
